The following is a short visual documentary on Robert F. Kennedy and the speech he first delivered to the National Union of South African Students at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, on June 6th, 1966. After his assassination during his 1968 presidential bid, his brother, senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy delivered the same speech at his brother's funeral in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, on June 8th, 1968.
Thanks for watching, happy creating and innovating! 🔥 #rfk #kennedy

What made the Kennedys such great leaders, is they never pretended they could solve all the issues. They always inspired the people to take control of their own lives and ask themselves what they could do. They were forging a nation, and world, of people who thought for themselves and helped others. Such losses in such tragic circumstances. May God rest their beautiful souls.

They did change it. The 1964 Civil Rights Act destroyed apartheid laws in the south despite violent Democrat objections. I saw schools, colleges and businesses suddenly opened to Black citizens formerly impossible despite all the previous laws failing to accomplish it before. Eg, Previously there were no schools or overcrowded ones with second hand books and few could afford to go. Afterwards for the first time Black kids could go to school without going far from home. To a people mostly involved in domestic or farm labor this was life changing. I tutorrd kids sttaight out of 300 hundred years of apartheid poverty. They were bright as pennies. Eager to learn. Happy to hear they had a college they could go to in their town previously closed to them. It is wicked to tell a child he or she can not learn or do math because of their skin color.

I have listened to all 3 Kennedy brothers since JFK became president, when I was 15 years old and living in my native Denmark. At the beginning of the speech I thought it was JFK speaking, only to realize a bit later it was Ted Kennedy, he sounded much like his JFK. However, after awhile I recognized the text from the eulogy Ted gave for his brother Bobby. I agree great speech, all the Kennedy brother was eloquent speakers. All call for the best in others, all had a moral compass when it came to civil rights, the poor etc. (in private life, not so much, specially JFK and Ted). They are all missed, the all made the US better, and given more time both JFK and RFK would have a great impact on this country.

I agree, but unfortunately it was people like Ronald Reagan who actively opposed expansion of the freedoms people in America enjoy. Regan opposed the Civil Rights Act, Reagan supported the suppression of free speech through his participation in the Red Scare which destroyed the careers of hundreds of people who did not not play ball McCarthy, Reagan vetoed sanctions on Aperthaid South Africa. Reagan, along with his fellow Republican presidents, Nixon, W. Bush and Trump have done more than most in trying to curtail freedom.

Apartheid was of course created in South Africa primarily due to the advent of minimum wages, a device that Reagan was surely opposed to . Reagan was not anti Civil Rights. "Those that live with us are our brothers, that they share with us the same short moment in life, that they seek as we do, nothing but the chance to live their life in purpose and happiness." A world in which choosing a side is seen as the only viable option people like the Kennedies are what we need. They were centrists who understood & respected the differences of people. Even create laws to protect that diversity. In the 21st century if u don't stand for something u are deemed to be weak & subsequently discarded. We need thses people now more than ever.

Heart rending and touching, rich in the values of moral courage. Taken too soon and trageically but the Kennedy brothers made their moral mark to be remembered forever for all time. Bless the hearts of those that seek refuge in these words, equivalent to pilars of a man's soul. His true north when all things around him have gone south. Who find the light at the end of the tunnel in themselves. Using that fire to maybe not tackle the shortcomings of the entire world but! Doing what they can, keeping those unbeknownst to their conscious awareness of the warmth and refuge you give them. Keep that fire lit and protect it. Disburse it into the many souls on your path to ultimate unity with the planet. GOD BLESS

What this man said resinates to us all today . Things have got worse and we are not moving forward, yes we may have technology but look at the cost , we have become polarised and judgemental and deeply divided. We are all human beings but at war with ourselves, the greedy have become more greedy and the rest of us are suffering because of this , the whole system is being wrecked so the few can benefit. We live on a beautiful planet which is being damaged for the few , and there is nowhere else to go. And war along with poverty continues and you realise that we have learnt nothing . We need to all look at ourselves and make a stand and make our world a better place , we have great minds and compassion, we can live so much better but until we change the current system and do what we know to be right we and heading for a cliff edge . Mankind is at a crossroads, and as the years go by this great speech still holds its power and emotion…… What could have been is gone , what we can be is still in our grasp, the question is are we going grab that chance or watch our world crumble. Only we can make that positive change for all our common good …….

But that was spoken by his brother Ted, who was probably the greatest most effective U.S. Senator who ever lived. He survived the assassination of two elder brothers, the death of his eldest brother in WW II, and his elder sister's death in a plane crash by the time he was 35.

Actually, the whole eulogy was a speech written and given when RFK was alive. Ted used this to represent his great and compassionate brother who cared so much for all the less fortunate people. All 3 brothers were so stand out for the country, although there were up and downs of each. No followers can be so true thereafter to represent the great country of the U.S. I had tears everytime I listen to this speech. Ted said his brother doesn't need to be idealized, but RFK was an idealist, he was the best of all 3 brothers. It's sad that Americans individualist have too much power to hate and rid of those who are better than them, without giving much thought that they also bring down the country and the poor citizens.
