Kenneth Douglas Stewart Anderson (8 March 1910 - 30 August 1974), was a writer and hunter who went on several adventures in the jungles of south India and wrote books about his thrilling stories of hunting Man-eating Tigers and Leopards.This is my attempt to follow up on his adventures to try and find the places where those events took place.
During this trip i went on the trail of "The Man-Eater of Jowlagiri" from the book 9 man-eaters and 1 rogue, where kenneth followed up and shot a man-eating tigress, near a temple in sulekunta, close to Jowlagiri. During this adventure Kenneth had a close shave with the tigress and almost became a statistic himself of the tiger victim. Though he failed to bag the tigress at his first attempt, since she almost never touched the baits he had tied for her, he eventually was successful in bagging the Man-Eater in his second attempt near a temple at sulekunta. This is my attempt to try and locate the place where the incidents took place and try to eventually find the place where he shot the tigress. It was an adventure following up on this trail and I hope you can be part of my adventure.

@Shreyas.Ranganath
@Shreyas.Ranganath 2 года назад
Thank you 🙂 and even though the forest areas have reduced since what was there a hundred years ago, a good part of it still remains, and tigers are moving in to areas where they were wiped out. Leopards however are present in large numbers.

Excellent work, Shreyas. A friend of mine- Praveen Rajuladavi and I went to Jowalgiri to check on Kenneth Andersons adventure. We did go to Sulegunta and saw one of the temples that you have mentioned. However we came across some villagers-who were in their 70's- and these villagers told us that Sulegunta was a forest when they were young but the forests were also cut in the 70's to make room for fields.. Hence the place where you carried out your investigations and are fields today, were forests in the 60's. We also havea Kenneth Anderson Facebook group in which many of these things are discussed.

Last when I viewed this video I did it casually.But this time I viewed it throughly With great degree of concentration.As I am familiar with territory I tell you,you have taken this video very well.You have explained it in minute details.When you go in search of An hunting incidence of 90 to 80 years it is difficult to pin point the exact location.Nevertheless you have almost identified the place.In seventies & eighties these forests were almost degraded.But thanks to awareness from locals & Tamil Nadu Forest Department they have restored these forests to its original position except wild animals.There use to be plenty of spotted deers during sixties.Kenneth did huntings in these region during late thirties & forties.Very rarely he did huntings in these region after fifties.It was great pleasure watching videos on Gummalapur,Jawalgiri & Black panther of Shivanapalli.Many Many thanks for posting these videos.👍👍🙏

Mining was completely banned in Western Ghats after Veerappan carried out a landmine attack in MM Hills, in which 20+ civilians and cops killed and all the quarries were shut, now the industry is booming again in those regions which is a threat to Wildlife and Ghats itself.

As per what I found and tried to correlate with the book, jellimariyamma is not the temple. He shot the tiger in the village temple at shoolakunta, and I have given further reasons why I feel jellimariyamma is not the temple in the video. Btw, that's just my point of view only 🙂
