Thank you for telling the truth. I am a minority (Yi) from Western China. When I saw the news that foreign anti China media slandered the Chinese government's "genocide", I was very angry because it was a fictional and absurd news. The Chinese government has many preferential policies for ethnic minorities. For example, it is easier for us to go to college than the Han people. The government builds houses for us free, gives us poverty alleviation funds every year, and reduces tuition, living expenses and medical expenses. I really hope that world peace can reduce conflicts and lies.
@zhangruyi3153

I think it is right for the Chinese government to support the other ethnic groups and encourage your children to go to university, have lots of children and help them with housing, cost of living etc. This is how to get a harmonious China. I am very upset that so many people, media, government spread lies about how China is harming the people of Xinjiang.

I am a resident in China for 19 years already. Please give more details on how the government helps minorities. This is a very important part of debunking so-called "minority oppression". I know that students get help with points for entrance exams. When you go to hospital do you get discount or do you have to go to a specific hospital?

@@mariomastadon7650 1. all the autonomous regions for minorities are not good at developing economies, which means that for the past 70+ years, they cannot generate enough for their own expenditure, so the central gov has been subsidizing all those areas for all those years--and their infrastructures are funded by the state and run at a loss; 2. minority get extra subsidies at work/school, and many universities/places have special canteens dedicated to Muslims, they may enjoy extra holidays than Han; 3. they have special independent legislative power (to enact law/regulations applicable to their region/ethnic minorities); 4. minority enjoys special preferential guidelines for sentencing, i.e., lower or no sentencing; 5. preferential right to procreate (they were never subject to one child policy); 6. easier access to education, university entrance exam, professional training schools, post-graduate schools all have preferential policies by adding points for them, and they also enjoy extra minority allowances throughout their time at school; 7. preferential treatment in finding a job, e.g., a certain percentage of state owned companies/institutions must have a certain percentage of minorities. If you grew up in CN, in the old days when food was scarce and rationed, each Han resident in cities/town got 250 grams of meat, 250grams of cooking oil, 250 grams of sugar, and limited cloth, limited amount of grains (only a small portion of which is rice) each month by way of coupon, but ethnic minorities used to have a lot and lot more food/oil/meat/sugar and cloth and grains than Han--when food was not enough, this was a big deal...but Han ppl accepted it, and never complained or became hostile against ethnic minorities. Ppl who grew up in China all know ethnic minorities have always been treated better than Han (and all Han ppl accepted it), they'd say so if they are not trying to smear CN deliberately out of their own political agenda. The only kind of ethnic minority that is not tolerated are terrorists/criminals, but Han terrorists/criminals are not tolerated either, and sentenced much more harshly and severely than ethnic minorities.

Although I have not yet visited Xinjiang, I have been visiting China about every other year since 2002 and have probably spent about a year there overall as well as being in constant contact with family there. I have also had an importing business from China, had highly successful major surgery there and travelled over much of the country. From all this I became familiar with present Chinese culture and thinking and Professor Hammond's information is consistent with my observations. I THOROUGHLY enjoy watching this video, though many points mentioned in this video are not new to me, The mentality and the practice China has toward its minorities (as mentioned in the video) are consistent with what I'd learned through my own reading, history education at school and through my first-hand experience from traveling and meeting people. I find that many of China's inclusion measures/initiatives toward ethnic minorities have either been understated or willfully ignored by western MSM. The current news from western media on China's Xin Jiang issues shocked me and was totally absurd to me....and I am not even from PRC! I am glad to see the debunking of those false claims is gradually gaining momentum. Those smear campaigns should STOP! It's unethical and it is low. From 78年生的台灣人。

Unfortunately most people and politicians in some countries choose to believe in the U.S. version about genocide and imprisonment. I asked a friend why; she, a Han, told me with envy that those spots are all reserved for ethnic minorities only! in order to help them make a better living! They also have other privileges: China affirmative actions: Minorities in China have easier access to get into top universities. Also when One-Child policy was still in practice in China, minorities didn’t have to follow it ! That is why Uyghur population doubles in recent 40 years! But when China stopped the one-child policy in 2015, and allow to 3 kids in rural areas, this time everyone including minorities are included in following this rule. This is major reason why Uyghur women’s have less babies recent years, not because of Genocide! The majority Han women follow the same rule. Another reason could be, when women are able to make a living themselves, they tend to have fewer children, l ! So Uyghur’s overall birth rate dramatically as well.

Thank you, Prof Hammond, for your enlightening lecture. it would be nice also to contrast the Western colonisation policies in Africa, Asia, and South America, where there was no deliberate efforts to preserve the identity and culture of the indigenous people. In fact, in North America, the indigenous people, and that of Australia, have almost been excluded and even to the point of attempting to decimate them. So, it's ironic that it is these countries that are now accusing China of genenocide. It is sad that no mainstream media can't be trusted these days. I have lost much respect for journalists and journalism. I commend many video bloggers who are foreigners living in China who are making efforts to stamp the tide of mainstream media in the west's attempt to demonise China. Hope more foreigners in China speak up and tell the truth to their countrymen back home.

Go to Thailand or Saudi Arabia as examples and criticise & talk s*it about their royal families, you’ll definitely be thrown into jail! I am a Manchu满族 , and my wife is a Xibe锡伯族 . We met at the Minzu University of China(中央民族大学)which is a university dedicated to ethnic minorities. There are 12 million Uyghurs,10 million Manchus, but only 190,000 Xibes in China. If the Chinese government intends to eliminate ethnic minorities, it shouldn’t start with the Uyghurs. Wouldn’t it be easier to start with the Xibes or other ethnic groups with a smaller number?
@storyls
@storyls 3 года назад
The goal isn’t to eliminate ethnic minorities. The goal is Chinese government control. If minorities stay nice and play well with the government, they do not care. The CCP cares far more about the land under the Uygher’s feet than it does about the Uyghers themselves. After all that’s the critical area in China for export to the rest of Eurasia for the belt and road initiative. Regardless classic Uyghur traditions do not align well with the government intentions for the land. Therefore the Chinese government moves to “civilize them,” by force if necessary.
@shaotielin
@shaotielin 3 года назад
@@storyls Do you know who made up ccp? Who is eligible to join ccp? Whose interests does ccp represent? The answer is that any Chinese citizen who loves China and is willing to dedicate everything to this country and people can join the ccp. They can be ordinary farmers, supermarket employees, factory workers, construction workers, students, doctors, soldiers, police, teachers, taxi drivers. It can be Han, Korean, Mongolian, Tibetan, Manchu, Xibe or Uyghur. It can come from Xinjiang, it can also come from Tibet, Heilongjiang or Hainan Island. The government must ensure national security, not allow terrorist attacks, and control social order. This is a manifestation of the government's ability to govern. Compared with the United States detaining terrorists without trial in Guantanamo and torturing them everyday, Xinjiang’s probation center teaches them work skills and allows them to reintegrate into society. Don't you think this is a better and more humane approach?

The history of China is the history of multi ethnics blending, grinding and merging together over thousands of years. Cruelty of some parts of the whole process is beyond imagination. what the current Chinese government has done to their ethnic minorities is trivial compared to what is happening right now globally. The human right has never been the true concern when it is viewed in a bigger picture of state strategies and international politics.
