Despite you sounding sick as hell, still amazing analysis. Plus, so wild to hear Cecil Taylor doing something akin to his thing behind KD. Strange brew indeed. So thanks all around, and hope you feel better pronto!

On his channel Josh Wakeham did a video on how many players used dorian language a half step up over a dominant chord. It looks like KD was one of them. Josh's rationale was that the Dorian scale is very nearly the melodic minor scale and so it implies the altered scale on the dominant chord (with just one note you have to be careful of). This is a helpful hack, because it means you can use all your dorian language without having to delve into the complexities of the altered scale.

I think that is a totally useful hack, but I don't think the rationale perfectly holds up here because of how often KD tends to lay into that non-altered scale note. I do think it works for nearly the same reason the altered scale works, however. I have a good explanation for the theoretical reasoning, but I've gotta finish my Lydian Chromatic Concept series for it to make total sense to the public at large. Thanks for the input!

“Get well soon?” No! “Get well NOW!” Great vid & hope you feel better asap. A huge glob of honey on the end of a spoon in a coffee mug. Pour boiling water over it about 3/4 full. Squeeze fresh lemon juice in the mug and a splash of whiskey to taste. Stir and enjoy while listening to Miles Davis’ Flamingo Sketches. All my very best, friend. 🎺

Please save your vocal chords. Don't sing when you are sick! Love your stuff, take care of yourself. Looking forward to many more years of content.

Thanks! I'm proud that you feel like it can still be defined as singing, but I'll try to take it easy either way.
