The Pitt fan inside me is slowly dying. First Aaron Donald retires and now this? My heart can't take much more of this. I know I'm biased in my thinking, I don't care.
@@bigoj7917 Kenny didn't have many turnovers with the Steelers because most of his throws were behind the LOS or within like 3 yards of it. If you want him to throw ANYTHING more than 3 yards of the LOS you're probably fucked.
It's one of their best offseason of all time and they got rid of the 2 most cancer players on the team, if anything this is terrible for Days of Our Steelers content lol
@@notmyrealname7163 Trevor Lawerence and Mac Jones have the same career line thus far. Unless Lawrence breaks out within the next two seasons he’s going to be considered one of the all-time busts.
tbf i think sam howell got traded because washington has the #2 pick and were building a team with that pick in mind, not howell. in a way, you could almost say pickett and howell got drafted by the wrong teams. also matt corral never got a chance in carolina and purdy was badly overlooked
That’s what pissed me off the most in the moment. The rooneys and Colbert got scared. They didn’t want the backlash, so they went with the crowd pleasing move
@HohoenAkuma He's cheap with a 5th year option. Could also be traded down the road. I agree giving up a third is an overpay for a backup but if he doesn't suck and could break even if traded then it's fine.
I mean he never got a shot, had Canada as his OC, then got hurt, then got benched, and then was told to compete with Russell Wilson… I honestly don’t blame him.
@@jasonhensley7455 Yeah but we saw first hand last season what can happen with a bad OC in the form of Josh Allen who wasn’t playing well at all and then looked like an MVP candidate as soon as they got rid of their garbage OC. Kenny finally got rid of Canada only to get hurt and then get benched.
Canada was a problem but Pickett didn’t exactly cover himself glory, there were quite a lot of bad pocket possessions, missed throws, and some really bad handling of the football in moments that I have to look at the guy under center as the culprit. Steelers have many problems and throwing their hopes on a guy that was statistically poor after he throws a fit over not starting would have been another on the list.
“developing players? coaching your roster up to their full potential? dude, what the hell are you talking about?” -the eagles since randall cunningham retired
I LOVE this! Kenny was like, "WYAHHH! I HAVE TO COMPETE WITH A 36 YEAR OLD QB ON THE DECLINE FOR A STARTING GIG AFTER ME SUCKING FOR TWO YEARS. WYAHHH!" / Steelers were like, "OK you baby. Now try to go take the starting gig from a 25 year old MVP runner-up in 2022 coming off a Pro Bowl season in 2023." 🤣🤣🤣 Pickett let his #1 overall QB drafted status go to his head. He's gonna realize soon, his talent level is just lucky to have a back-up slot on an NFL roster
He went from a QB battle between the hot Rudolph and questionable Russel Wilson to being a guaranteed backup to Jalen hurts. So much for not wanting to be 2nd string
I mean it wasn't too outrageous of a prediction. With Pickett being shipped across the state and Rudolph hitting free agency, the Steelers needed to have a backup plan at quarterback, whether that be Wilson or Fields.
One of our biggest problems was backup QB’s. It has came back to ruin our seasons since Charlie Batch retired. This hurts. Ugh, and our replacement is a team killer in Russell Wilson. This is like my worst nightmare lol. We NEVER gave Pickett a chance with this offensive system, impossible to really gauge what he could do. We’re definitely being insanely aggressive for how this organization has historically been ran, I just hope it’s not too much. But if anybody can stop all that extra stuff Russ brings to the facility, it’s Tomlin. So many Steelers fans have no idea how lucky we are to have him. God willing, this season will show that.
I like Pickett. I was not a fan of the draft pick from the outside (our offensive infrastructure was not ready to support a young qb), but hoped he would have success. Can’t say I’m too surprised with the lack of consistent production though. I hope he can revive his career. Seems like a solid dude.
The Steeler Way is slowly evolving into a distant memory, now Pittsburgh is actually getting it together and is making good decisions. What it will cost them though is probably Mike Tomlin’s winning record.
As a newer Steelers fan, that's fine. If Tomlin gets a losing season the following season if not this season, it'll force him to either evolve as a coach or retire.
i wouldn’t say they’ve been making good decisions lately. arthur smith as oc? opting for an overcooked chef russ over pickett at qb? letting a quality punter in pressley harvin walk for a guy 7 years his senior? rooney has absolutely NO clue wtf he’s doing, y’all are gonna waste tj watt
@@kaphizmey6229 I can see, and even respect, your point of view here on most of it. However, in no universe will dumping Harvin ever be considered a bad move. ReRun shanked the ball more than a one armed, blind novice golfer. Christ, he was bad!
@@kaphizmey6229 Arthur Smith was great as an OC and fits what the Steelers offense is good at perfectly, he's a bad head coach but they didn't sign him to be HC. Russ isn't but he's absurdly cheap, as much as I didn't want him around he was still a good signing. They're paying him a fraction of what Trubisky was getting paid. Harvin is terrible. I thought he was finally putting it together when he started off well last year but he quickly went back to being absurdly inconsistent. You can't be an NFL punter and constantly shanking balls for 15-20 yards and letting the other offense take over already in field goal range.
@@kaphizmey6229Harvin was bad, Russ isnt the anwser but hes cheap and Pickett, Rudolph, and Trubisky were not the anwser, so why keep them around. We got rid of our terrible center, got rid of an average wr in Johnson whos always going backwards to try to make more yards, and cut a few other players that most steelers fans loathed. Arthur Smith might not also be the anwser but compared to Canada, Haley, and other recently bad OCs since Arians and Munchiak left I think hes a step forward. Add a good LB in Queen, hopefully a good draft for a C or OT to support Najee/Warren or a DT for when Cam retires at the end of this season most likely, and in next years draft or the year after retry drafting a QB. Id say Khan and Tomlin are doing just fine. Every coach has busts (Burns and Bush) but trading for Minkah? Drafting Watt? Drafting JPJ? Always drafting decent WRs that we get draft capital for (Claypool, Johnson, AB, Sanders, Wallace, Bryant). I call that a win. "We want volunteers not hostages"
@@lam8138 the NY Jet shitshow is why we should see what Darnold can do in Minnesota this coming year. As for Pickett, he was just not impressive to me as a general NFL fan.
As a Pitt alum who saw Kenny get traded today, AD (a classmate) retire, tboyd (another classmate) prob go to the chiefs, and the hoops team lose a heartbreaker to Carolina... Damn this is about as much as I've suffered since fraud Graham went 6-6 and ran off to Arizona state with a Facebook post. Actually since I was an undergrad for wanny, haywood, Graham, christ, and duzz all before I graduated
They turned Kenny Pickett, Big Money Mitch and Mason into Justin Fields and Russ Wilson and somehow gained draft capital in the process. This is the best Steelers offseason of all time
UrinatingTree- Keep going back to what Art Rooney II said back in mid-January: "I think the biggest thing we need is quality play at the quarterback position.". Nobody envisioned Kenny Pickett being traded, back then, or, the Pittsburgh Steelers not having a single returning QB on their roster, 2 months later. His point remains valid.
With a piss poor Offensive line except for like two of them, coaching staff with Matt Canada and Arthur Smith and the standard 9-8 Tomlin its a shame we never got to see the full potential of kenny. Hope he proves the steelers wrong.
Matt Canada is one of the worst offensive coordinators in recent history but also one of the biggest scapegoats. he didn't make Kenny miss any reads, he didn't make Kenny miss those throws, he didn't make Kenny too scared to compete with Russell Willson, etc. I blame Canada to a degree, but Kenny showed little improvement over two seasons regardless of the schemes
