i was 8 seats back row from 3rd base with my dad ! you could hear a pin drop in the stadium when it went dead silent at 00:51 when everyone gasped and then the biggest pop ever from the crowd my heart never beat so hard in my life
this was amazing no doubt. but it's kind of funny seeing the clothing that fans wore back then. everyone is in their regular clothes. hardly any rangers merch.
@@NathanRyanAllen I don't know. just kinda weird. i remember going to games as a little kid and i always had on a rangers shirt and hat. didn't realize hardly anyone else was.
He came into Fridays Front Row Sports Grill in 1996 when I was a 17 year old kid working there cleaning off tables. I recognized him immediately and said hi as he walked by. He actually stopped and talked to me. I told him I had been listening to him since I was a way you get kid when I had to go to bed early and couldn't watch the games on TV. I would very sneaky like and quiet like turn on my radio in bed, when I was supposed to be sleeping, and listen to him and Eric call the end of the games and then eagerly wait listen to their post game recap and locker room interviews. Mark literally acted like he was amazed and appreciative that I was a regular listener. Made me....a beanpole of a kid feel cool! I was just in awe of him. Will always remember that encounter.
Yu Darvish gave it a good ride in 2013. He got to the last out of a perfect game and a cheap hit up the middle got him on out 27. Darvish also got to within 1 out of a no hitter in 2014. David Ortiz broke it up with 2 outs in the 9th. But to be fair, David earned that one, because the Rangers were shifted to the right, and he hit it through the shift anyways.
I was there sat in right field. Greer catch felt like it was in slow motion. Bo Jackson played right for the angels that night. My dad heckled him all night long
I happened to be there that night, sitting in nosebleeds. About 7th inning I told my friend "this might be a PERFECT game, probably not, but dude he's perfect so far". Bless Rusty Greer, what a player.
30: Years Ago Today July 28 1994 The Last Texas Rangers Baseball No Hitters Here In Home In North Texas The Dallas Fort Worth Area And It Was The Perfect Game For The Great Kenny Rogers So Thank You So Much Texas Rangers.
Like so many others I remember exactly where I was that night. Incredible performance. Rainbow curve after rainbow curve, and the desperate swings from Angels' batters. Rusty Greer's catch to this day gives me goosebumps. The word amazing doesn't do it justice. Unforgettable game.
What's most impressive about this...he got his perfect game on just 98 pitches. He pulled a Maddux. In a hitter-friendly ballpark. Getting those kinds of perfect games with that great efficiency was actually more common in the timeline leading up to this (Between 1908 to 1994 7 perfect games where pitch counts were tracked had 100 or less pitches) but has since become more rare (Of the 10 perfect games from 1995 to today, just 3 were done with 100 pitches or less) with batter strategies now prioritizing more on fouling off pitches to get more favorable pitches for big extra base hits, while pushing up pitch counts to wear down pitchers in the process. Nevertheless, it's always the most special of accomplishments for a pitcher, no matter their skill level or all the accolades they can get for themselves or their ballclub, be it a season or a career.
1982 - 1994 mark holtz and eric nadel together on the radio broadcast of mlb's texas rangers on wbap 820 am here in north texas the dallas fort worth area.
Amazing seeing it. I was there with my dad, and one of my childhood best friends, about 15 rows behind the visiting dugout on the 3rd base side. Was 10 years old at the time.
I'm not gonna lie like everybody else does and say "I was there"... but I'll tell my story. I was with my aunt and uncle that night visiting at someone else's house. I was about 12 years old and watching on TV with my uncle. Right before the 9th inning, my aunt started bitching and whining about wanting to go home. We tried to explain the situation, and that we wanted to watch what was about to unfold... but she got her way and we left before the 9th. We did hear this exact audio on the WBAP radio broadcast on the ride home. We missed the Greer catch though. Another five minutes, and we could have watched the whole thing. I still give her shit for that lol.
Haha....I really was there. Right field home run porch. I was there with family and friend of my parents. That friend wasn't really info baseball that much. I don't know why we brought her. I was upset because I knew we would probably leave early due to her not being a big fan. BUT.....as it would be, Kenny pitched a perfect game and because of that we did get to stay the whole game!!! WHOOT!!! However, I wanted to stay longer and try to catch any onfield interviews or anything they might do to celebrate the occasion. But nope.....we left right after his last pitch....haha....all good though. Still witnessed a VERY cool piece of baseball history!
Mark Holtz was a great man. I remember the mini story they told at his funeral:.. with a giddy look on his face .. “he would always say “can you believe we get paid to do this?”
the first year of the ballpark in arlington tx which is now choctaw stadium in arlington it was the home of your texas rangers from 1994 - 2019 for 26 years and seasons here in north texas the dallas fort worth area so thank you so much.

the first year of the ballpark in arlington tx which is now choctaw stadium in arlington tx in 1994 the last texas rangers baseball no hitter on the same year on july 28 here in north texas the dallas fort worth area the texas rangers win 4 - 0 against the california angels which is now the los angeles angels so thank you so much.
Watched this clip and reminded how much fun it was back then, especially the treat it was to listen to Mark Holtz make the call. Wish Mr. Holtz could have been alive to make the call here a couple of months ago when the Ranger’s won it all!! “Hello World Champs!!”
Wasn't there but watching on (local) TV. I picked up the game sometime around the 5th or 6th inning when the Rangers were batting and no one was sitting near Rogers in the dugout so I thought sometime may be up. Not that that is highly unusual but no one was going anywhere near him. Then, they flashed the line -- they didn't have it constantly up in those days because of the 4:3 dimension TVs then. I was intrigued but didn't think a lot of it. Rogers had had a good year in 1993, but before then had been very mediocre. His strikeouts had gone up in '93 but again, I wasn't expecting him to even finish the game, much less get a no-hitter of any kind. However, I could feel the electricity of the stadium through the TV as the game continued. It was one of the most exciting sporting events I ever watched. I've been a lifelong Ranger fan (yeah, I know) and this was THE highlight. When Greer caught that ball for the first out of the 9th, I knew it was church.
California teams seem to be a slight shady. I watched this game due to the fack im an Angel fan. I was hoping that someone would lay down a bunt and just be an Ass hole about the whole perfect game hype in Arlington. But that didn't happen. 😔
@@sherrys961 that was the song they played after every win at the ballpark in '94. They did it again in 2012 when they did a '94 throwback night and won that game too.
