Understanding so little about the Kentucky Derby and the horses, their owners, the trainers and jockeys that do the racing. All I know is stories like SEABISCUIT and SECRETARIAT. But, when I watched this race I wanted to meet this team, and the jockey and his horse. That will never happen but I am so insanely happy for Mr Dawson, Mr. Reed, Mr. Sonny Leon and this amazing equine named Richie! Bravo!!!!🥰
Sonny, me as a latin, I’m very proud of you. I’m from pr, and we got good jockey’s but I’m very impressed with your courage, your did a race with your heart. Awesome determination. Congratulations.
The loyalty for the owner and trainer to stick with their regular jockey can not be underestimated , most big time trainers and owners would've gone with a big time name jockey but guess what , Sonny looked just as good as any of the very best ! ! CONGRATS ! !
For whatever the reason no jockey was better on that day that's for sure and many jocks are overrated cashing in on better mounts then the underated unknown riders get ! I don't believe they would have looked for another rider even if they were in a month ago trainers don't switch jocks for a race they go with who knows the horse
It was just breathtaking...you could see Rich Strike decide a few steps from the finish line, "oh I gotta go faster like right now", and it was like he just bolted into overdrive...so exciting!
I’ve been learning about this beautiful story unfolding since Saturday.... it’s overwhelming. Enough storyline for books and movies. If this goes all the way ti the Triple Crown... this will be Secretariat kind legend.
Seems like good folks. 100 years of caring for horses between father and son!!..very happy for these folks. The owner even seems he just along for the ride and having fun owning some horses.😁
Beyond great to have people and a horse that nobody knew win the whole thing . One important factor here is this simple people don't have access to the drugs that all the big name crooks such as Baffert have been using for years and never get caught , so let's hope this become a trend , average connections winning ! ! !
He would not have won that race if the jockey didn't have the stones to slide Rich Strike into that 4 wide tight spot. Once it opened in front of him they were out of there in a speed the rest of the field couldn't match. That horse was so fast in the final 200 meters. My Gawd!
Great examples of leadership. Owner credits the trainer, the trainer credits the jockey, the jockey credits the horse. And the trainer's Dad just says I am proud as I can be. The more you push credit to others on the team, the more you are truly deserving. That was a hell of a team. And Love the simplicity,. Why did you take the path wide around the last horse on the rail rather than seeing if could push through on the rail? The jockey: "I got a horse." He knew that have him options. The trainer, responding to "how did this happen"? "He passed them all." Yup.
I’d like to know: after hearing about tragic barn fires that have happened over the years, why, with such valuable inhabitants, do these barns not have up to date fire sprinklers etc. These areas are usually very hot and dry. I just don’t get it.
John barns burn. There is a problem with storing hay. It can become highly combustible. Even under the best of conditions with sprinklers etc. Barns can catch fire. I had some friends whose barn burned down because some kid working for the volunteer fire dept wanted to be a hero. Not only did horses die in the fire my friend almost died as they were driving to the barn and one of the horses that had been turned loose crashed Into their truck. The whole thing was horrendous. When a barn catches fire the horses become very frightened and do not want to leave the perceived safety of their stalls. Each horse must be led by hand in a blindfold because they panic at even the smell of smoke. Newer barns are better. But hay is a combustible and stables are old.
A lighting strike in the middle of the night set the Barn on fire, during a summer storm, they were only able to save 13 and they lost 23. 😢 it was so sad. A heart Braking experience. They all loved those horses.
ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY IN VIEW OF RICH STRIKE WINNING THE 2022 KENTUCKY DERBY…THE OWNER….TRAINER…GROOM…JOCKEY DOWN TO ALL THE PLAYERS HANDLING THE HORSE…
Reed trained Rinterval who was the only filly that even came close to beating Zenyatta. It was a nail-biting Clement Hirsch stakes in 2010. Photo finish. Rinterval only lost by a nose. P. S. Out of 16 races, Rinterval had only one win (The Wintergreen at Turfway Park) which made it uncanny that she nearly beat Zenyatta.
@@raygordonteacheschess5501 Not the 2010 Hirsch. It was a photo finish with Rinterval who lost by a nose. St. Trinians lost the 2010 Vanity Handicap by more than a head. Both races were nailbiters for sure but the one with Rinterval was the closest.
Ban horse racing!!!! Leon (among many other in the business) is an animal abuser. This is his 5th time being suspended, most recent was literally due to physical harm of a horse. Check out THINK LIKE A HORSE on YT, he’ll breakdown the amount of pain Rich was in. This business is both a-moral and unethical.
The Cinderella story that can only be written in America. Even this God damn horse embodies the American dream and pursuit of happyness. Never say never!
I didn’t even know about the derby. A preacher spoke of it as a great source of encouragement and inspiration for a nation that is up against the ropes. He said With God, EVERYTHING can change in two minutes.
This was so awesome my heart swelled listening to them ~ Congratulation to the best rider trainer and horse best race I ever seen I'm so happy for you all~! Love and prayers
The reason this is so special is the FACT that a horse with elite talent and no speed pills inside it beat horses that have. This can happen but unfortunately not very often. The medicated horses sometimes will not feel great and run flat, this is exactly what happened here.I must say that the winning jockey has tremendous ability well done.
El sabado ese se ganaba hasta Gozzapert.,..jajajajaaja.,..Heloooooooo y eso que invasor no estaba ahi tambien y secretaria porque sino que se los ganaba tambien.,..Heloooooooo.,....
I don’t think they should run him in the Preakness. Give the horse a well needed rest and run him in the Belmont, the media and the fans be damned. Do the right thing for the horse.
Love the story!!!, but this comment is correct, the turns are to sharp there, distance is 1/16 shorter, and speed will do better,.wait for the Belmont. This horse won't hit the board in the Preakness.. Hope I am wrong, been going to the track longer then any of them. Again hope I am WRONG.
