Thanks so much for the shout out Steve. I’m very humbled by that. Perhaps sometime in the future we should all organise a get together. Logistically it would take some thought as Pete is in Cairns, yourself Matty and Dave NSW and I thought Jake might have been in Victoria, but I think anything is possible. Good video btw, the 871 is probably still ringing in your ears a week later.
Hi mate it’s my pleasure and was good to talk on the phone also. Hopefully a few went over to have a look at your channel. Yes getting together with all these blokes would be amazing. I’d say they would be all up for it aswell. We would have to organise a time and place and see what they all think. The blokes I’ve spoken with would certainly be down for it. Yes the 871 is still heard days after using it mate😅😅. Well worth it though. All the best Bruce and keep in touch mate about this
Gday Steve, thanks very much for the shoutout, that trip really couldn’t of gone better apart from the rain, you have that tunnel a good rattle 😂, great job mate, cheers
Hi mate it’s a pleasure to help. It was a great trip but I was glad to see the light at the end if the tunnel 😅😅. It was a real drone in there for 8 minutes. Thanks as always mate
Hi mate this is great and we were lucky enough to have you here. It was a great night and your service certainly contributed to it. Magnificent food and people also. Thanks for the nice compliments.
@@charlescraig8994 it’s a great compliment mate thank you. All the catering team were great people too mate and it all helped make the day as great as it was. Hopefully we catch up again at some stage
Another awesome video, Steve!! FYI, you drove past my sisters house when you crossed the Hawkesbury bridge. Thanks for the shout out, too!! Looking forward to seeing this come back to life. Cheers!
Sorry for late reply mate. You were one of the first to comment and I started with the newer ones because it’s easier. My pleasure with the shoutout. I think you may have mentioned that you have a sister down here somewhere on the phone. She’s already come back to life mate so video to follow
Hello Steve. Thanks for shouting out Matty. I found you via his shoutout. I've been enjoying your videos. If you ever see one of my videos you will appreciate how lucky you are to have lots of space. If I had space god knows what I'd drag home. All the best, Mart in England.
Awesome ran one of those slim lines with the 871 for 6years as a tipper in the 90’s best mod we did was to put turbo on it not for power but to tame the bark cuts the noise by half without touching the fueling almost a gear better also and boy after a full day in one of those you have to learn how walk again good show JA
Hi mate thanks for watching. They are great truck. The turbo ones certainly are a lot quieter, go better too. They aren’t the most comfortable truck no😅😅. Thanks again mate
Thanks foe another good video Steve. Good on ya for the shout out for the other RU-vid, enjoy watching Bruce he is old school and keeps it simple also young Jake impresses me with his passion for the old gear and he has great knowledge of the old gear for his age.
Thanks Jimmy I like to support them and I think it goes a long way. They both run a great channel. Well worth a look. Both handy blokes in what they do
@stevesplacedownunder Western Truck & Tractor Repair, even though it is an American RU-vid site Warren is a wealth of knowledge on pretty much any item of plant. He is a good honest hard working no BS guy.
@@jimmyblair3332 I’ve only watched him a few times. I do exactly the same job as him so I tend not to watch too much of it in my spare time. I focus on the smaller channels that do similar content to me, plus other interests I have
Hey Steve thanks for the mention A nice surprise for sure! Another nice find you’ll have quite the collection going on at your place that’s for sure. The old 8v71 sounded awesome, my truck suggestion only because I have first hand experience with one, a scania T112 gumboot, I have one as a truck and dog I brought it for 5k it’s an 86 model and is honestly more comfortable than reasonably new kenworths, I’ve done 70,000km in it and spent under 10k on parts that’s including the engine rebuild I had to do after I did 35k it dropped a liner. Everything is still available for them and parts are very cheap, the only bad thing about the L9000 is rust and any cab parts/ ford specific parts are hard to find you’ll be limited to mostly second hand. Anyway good video cheers mate👍🏻
Hi mate it’s my pleasure. I’m getting a lot of stuff mate yes. I’ve seen the Scania you have there. I watched an episode a while back when you were working on it. It doesn’t really have to be a ford but something cheap of the same era. One with a decent cab would be good but see how we go. Certainly no hurry for it. You have a good channel going mate and keep up the great work also.
brings back great memories for me from the 80/90s of goin up the f3 to Newcastle with my old man in old KWs. Ford Louies, Inter 3070s and T lines! none were GM powered unfortunately! his boss was a Cummins man thru and thru
It would awesome to to be a part of your adventures brother the scenery is awesome I enjoy every video and thanks for sharing your adventures with us as always
G,day Steve I follow all channels you mentioned and think all these channels are great with similar content and very different host all aged very different, both Bruce and Jake are always educational videos and Steve yours too, old rigs downunder is slightly more about trucks than repairs
Hi mate. Glad you enjoy all these channels. All produce great content and certainly all know what they’re doing. All good blokes too. I haven’t had Jake on the phone but the rest I have.
G'day again Steve. Ripper ride cobber. Love all of it while sitting in the aircon, with 47deg out side and you getting wet over there. Stay safe mate.🤠
Thanks Daryl. Yeah mate it’s been raining if not every day, every second day. It’s getting to much. But we will get around it and keep going. Glad you enjoyed it mate and thanks again. Plenty more to come
Thanks for the little trip Steve I've retired from my driving work so I need to do a trip with you in the old Kenny,i got my semi licence in a 124 KW v8 71 but it had Jake's so I was in heaven,no other sound like them .That was a long Tunnel, how long in k's you said about 8 minutes, fantastic roads compared to here in SA . Thanks as always Mate ,oh and I drove those 94 Ford's with series 60 pretty basic drivers seat was always referred to as an upholstered railway sleeper passenger seat was worse it wasn't even air ride,so you will need pillows LOL. Cheers Kym Adelaide
Thanks Kym. I’m glad you could come along. This old girl has Jake’s on her but I don’t use them much. I think the micro switch on either the clutch or the governor is playing up but certainly has them. Tunnel is great and eliminates the struggle of traffic and lights on pennant hills road. Kms I’m not sure but 80 kms an hour for a bit over 8 minutes. The Ford doesn’t have to be exactly that but I like the layout of those ford cabs and not a bad looking rig for a later model. Just something around that era so I can still get the historic rego. If the seat is like you say I can certainly change that. I haven’t had anyone contact me about one yet so it may never happen. Just a thought. Thanks as always Kym
Awesome morning brother and little sister another awesome adventure with my brother and sister from another country say hi to everyone for me and safe travels brother!!! Nothing like the smell of diesel and the roar of an Ole Detroit rolling coal and shifting gears awesome as always brother stay safe and let's get this adventure started 😂😂
Gday Steve, interesting video from the tour for the new acquisition. You can see a bit of Australia. It also rains often here even though it's winter :). Request to reply to e-mail. Tell us what you plan to do next with Zetor. Regards😀
Hey Steve how are you buddy give a shout out to you from here in Massachusetts in the USA love your show and your videos very informative very entertaining and very interesting you have good content I like the content of you driving the trucks picking up equipment and saving old equipment and love all of the mechanical work you do keep up the good work and keep posting the videos that you do they are very interesting and very good
Hi from Sydney Kenneth. Thank you for this wonderful comment. I’m glad you enjoy it mate. I’m going to try and keep it all up and going as I do enjoy it, and interacting through the comments is great also
Thank you so much Steve for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to answer me keep up the hard work it shows in your content and your work you do I know it's difficult to be married and raise a family and be working and still have time to make these videos I know I'm 60 years old I raised two daughters and worked all kinds of crazy hours traveling working construction doing fiber optics and cable TV Underground Construction installation trenching and installing conduit I did that work for almost 20 years and worked crazy hours raising a family I don't know if I would have ever had time to make videos and do what you do so I give you credit it's very hard work what you do and still have time to make the videos that you do like I say keep up the good work I appreciate them and love them thank you so much
@kennethparent8544 it’s my pleasure mate. I will always respond even if it’s late. If someone shows interest and appreciation in us I will always find time for them. You’ve had a busy life yourself it seems and you know exactly what it’s like. It’s very hard mate, especially with the price of everything, that just adds to it all. Thanks again for the support Kenneth
No point in having a radio in that cab, at least you'll never get a copy right strike against you, lovely old truck and good luck with growing the channel, when I first started watching CCE Aus Curtis and his wife only had around 35k subs, in 3 years they are not far off a million.
Hi Andy. No mate that radio wasn’t used a lot. I hope it grows mate. I’d love an opportunity to spend 12 months with dad while she’s still fit and healthy but just a dream at the moment. It won’t be through lack of trying anyway.
Sorry Steve, been up the walls with work so only catching up on your video now! You're definately like me, starting to plan the first beer at 5am 😂😂. Feel kinda sorry for poor Mick though 😂
Truly love hearing that Detroit screaming what kind of mileage are you getting out of her love your channel keep up the work on saving all those beautiful trucks and tractors
Hi mate thank you. It may have used around 120-150 litres at a guess for 230kms(140 miles). Thanks for watching and for the nice comments. Plenty more to come
Great work and content love your channel bloke it's always a pleasure watching your videos brother sometimes I get behind on watching because of time but I always make time to catch up all the best mate and keep up the great work like always cheers from Dean
Hi Dean thanks as always. It’s great to get these positive comments. I’ve got plenty more to come yet mate and very happy that you enjoy it. All the best also and talk soon
How good is that tunnel. It has got rid of the bottle neck which was Pennant Hills Road. Done that trip a few times from North Queensland to Melbourne towing a caravan. When the Gympie by- pass is finished we will be able to travel from north of Gympie to our son’s place just north of Melbourne without facing on coming traffic. Thanks for the video Old Mate
@@johnjordan4647 yes there are some great roads now, apart from being expensive they are very practical. A lot of towns are bypassed now which is a shame but it’s a lot better and faster drive. My pleasure mate
Hi Steve hope you have some Luck finding a truck , I enjoy a road trip mate🙂 but man that engine noise 🙉 I would definitely be ready for a few 🍻 after that trip🤣😂
Hi Nick. Certainly in no hurry but would certainly be interested if anyone has anything. This Kenworth is very noisy mate yes, and we did have a few after it😅😅😅
The KW did well on the hills Steve. Nice looking crane. That will be handy around the ranch as a runner or just for parts. Hope you find a suitable Ford 9000, spent a lot of time around those trucks in my misspent youth, probably pumped 100,000 gallons of diesel into them. Glad to see you gettin yer vitamins at the last bit. 8^) Great video, I liked it!
Thanks Jeff. It does go well mate yes. That old trailer is heavy even when empty so I was happy with how it went. She’s getting old now and only 318hp. I hope I find one to but certainly no hurry. Doesn’t even have to be one of those but something of that era would be nice. Great you spent time around them all too mate. We had plenty of vitamins mate yes. All the best Jeff
Ha ha. Nothing better than a Detroit crackin through a tunnel. I know last video you talked about getting a Volvo as a work truck but the louie would be a great rig as well. Thanks for sharing man
Love the crane! I can certainly understand your gumption towards a hauler with more horsepower. Seemed a bit underpowered heading up that long corridor. Quite a few transtars on the road tho. Love the videos, been following both of your alls channels for some time now. I'm excited to see what you make of the new toy!
Thank you mate. It’s not underpowered at all it’s just noisy and hot and I want to preserve it a bit more. If it was just me it would never bother me but going for a run with a passenger is always good to talk. Thanks for following and plenty more to come
The old K100 looks smick but it would have been rough on the ear drums in that tunnel. Might be worth keeping an eye on Facebook Marketplace for an LTS, there was a half decent 97 model near Maitland NSW before Christmas but it's long gone by now.
Hi mate. It was very hard on the ears. On the way back we had plugs in. I’ve been looking at market place. There’s 3 in Raymond terrace but those are too long in the rails and a touch too pricey. There’s no great hurry for it though. Something will show up I’m sure
Hey my friend, wish our traffic was as light as yours on this trip you are taking. Funny you mentioned Bruce down under, I support his channel as well. Actually there are 4. Packistani truck, you, Bruce and western truck. Bruce had a cab over kenworth with a V8 detrout today. Anyway you know I like your videos. Your a good man and friend. I only wish you good health and fortune for you and your family. What a handy machine that is you picked up. Jim
Hi Jim. It was early Saturday morning so traffic was fairly light. Bruce has a good channel and I actually had him on the phone on Saturday night for over 2 and a half hours 😅😅. Thanks as always mate and hope you are well also
I worked it out in my head going by Steve's fuel figures that Detroit gets 5.5 mpg which isn't too bad . That was a figure that Cats and Cummins got for that HP range.
hi steve from the top end in nt in the early 80s i did three years brisbane sydney over night, its changed a great deal micks got the right idea .get into it mate cabover brought back a lot memorys stay save and keep those log books looking good [ use a old pencile and rubber ] love the show see ya
Hi mate glad you can watch from over there. It’s just great to see. We have a lot of different models here that differ from the rest of the world. Thanks for the great comment
@@stevesplacedownunder Absolutely. Keep up the great content. I have a few trucks over here, KW T800's, a Pete 378 with a c15 and an International Lonestar. Nothing to exciting. Wish i could get my hands on an old KW with an old detroit v8
@@stevesplacedownunder We have lots of old ones kickin around, but they are getting to be less and less. So many rotting away, to expensive to keep on the road, not efficient enough for daily use. Its sad really. Some people are thankfully keeping some going.
Hi Daniel. Sorry for the late reply mate. You should have called in and said hello. Yes I bet there is still a fading rattle in the tunnel. I certainly heard it mate. Thanks for the comment
Mint trip out mate. Cheers for Matty's channel shoutout. Good luck on the truck hunt.👍🏻 You light problem made my laugh, I do a light check when my geriatric Landy is warming up too. After unfucking the previous owners efforts and putting rtv where the lens screws in, I've not had any major problems.🤞🏻 I bet I've just cursed myself, haha🤦🏻♂️ Is it worth putting elastic or zipties around the contacts to squeeze bulb tight?.
Hi mate thanks. It sounds like you’ve been through it too🤣🤣🤣. Yeah I could do that so they don’t fall out. I’ve never really thought about it before because it’s always a last minute thing to fix one. It’s hardly when we’re drinking piss with plenty of time. Not a bad idea at all though.
I'm sort of used ride a long's on American roads and unfamiliar roads but it's rather freaky riding along on roads I've driving on since the 70s. So many memories.
@@stevesplacedownunderUsed ride in the back seat of dad's black Austin A40 from Morisset to Sydney on the old Pacific Highway before the Expressway was build. We used to visit friends in Blacktown and travel down dirt roads to get there
I just subscribed. Really good video, I have driven those roads you were on so many times, but never in anything as classy as a Kenny with an 8V71, you were the best sounding vehicle that day. Is that a Road Ranger it has, a real proper truck. I had already found Bruce, he has a couple of Detroit's. It just the sound us old guys miss. Enjoy your sandwiches.
Hi Andrew thanks for the subscription. That’s good mate and yes they are a classy truck. It’s a 15 speed Roadranger. Yes mate Bruce has a few. It’s a sound that is certainly fading away as the years go on. Thanks again mate
gotta love them old detroits....how long was that tunnel Steve?,looked about 10 miles from where I was sitting, anyway, another great show and thanks for sharing.have you ever seen CEE(cutting edge engineering)videos?they down under somewhere and have some real good machine shop shows.yours and theirs are the best on utube.cheers and thanks again, great stuff.
Hi Robert the exact length I’m not sure. Yes I’ve seen him. He does a great job. Not something I always watch though because it’s all to do with parts off machines that I actually work on for my job so I tend to only watch stuff to do with my interests and have time away from it I guess. Very handy bloke though. Thanks for the great compliment mate.
Hi John thank you. It’s something I’ve never really thought about but I like International. I love that Daycab 4070 I have but I’d really like a DCO (Emeryville). I appreciate all of them though. The Americans got a lot more models than us and there’s a lot of nice gear over there that I’d love too. GMC Astro, GMC General, Early Freightliner Cabover. All great machines.
I looked into the exact thing when I got home. They between $350-$500 here for the winch for a 5 ton capacity. Just from a 4wd shop and already have a snatch block to suit
What sort of budget did you have in mind mate there is one very similar to what you have mentioned here in your video but it’s a 1996 model and they want 25,000 for it
Hi mate yeah I guess around that price mate if it’s in reasonable condition. The trouble being a 96 model is that I can’t use it until 2026 because it needs to be 30 years old for the rego I have on them, unless I fully register it.
Him steve sorry for not watching a video for a while and what year is the old blue kenworth? and I reckon you should look into the CH macks for a replacement 😉
Hi mate. It’s no problem mate you certainly don’t have too. The Blue one is 1974. Was brand new for TNT in 74. And yes I have looked into ch Mack’s. My mate got a great one for great money but I can’t seem to find one for 94 or good money. They great to drive though.
Rather than waste money buying a quiter truck you can just fly me over if you have a long trip and I'll drive for brown sandwiches 😂, make having to sit through driver cpc for a full day last Sunday worthwhile. Are you still using the book of lies over there and not tachos like us?
I don’t mind the driving, even the noise is fine when driving alone, but with a passenger it’s good to have a yap and you can’t in this thing. Yeah still using the book. Need it outside 100km radius
@@davesworkshop2714it sounds relaxed but they are certainly onto it if you get wheeled in. Especially blokes running on fatigue management. They have to run the book regardless of where they go. Thanks Dave
