On Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, Kenya's Minister for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Salim Mvurya, formally announced that the country has discovered large deposits of the rare mineral Coltan in six counties across the nation including Samburu, Turkana, West Pokot, and Tana River. Announcing at the County headquarters of Embu, one of the counties which have been established to have the precious metal, Minister Salim Mvurya clarified that the government is now assessing the economic value of the mineral through ground truthing so it is not clear exactly how large the coltan deposits found in Kenya are in terms of figures.
