Keo and Zels applaud the Boks for silencing their critics, mull selections to face England and call a winner in the other semi-final. #rugbyworldcup #springboks
As a kiwi who loves our great rival 'The Mighty Bok' it has never bothered me what-so-ever that the Boks play with a brutal set piece style. I don't care that people call it boring or stale. In 44 years in New Zealand I have never heard any other kiwi call the Bok style as boring. We love the conflict and warfare that you guys bring to every clash. We savor it. That's your DNA and we know that nothing but our absolute best will do to beat you. All blacks have their DNA too. Its funny because in 2023 The All Blacks pack has played more like the Boks and the Boks backline has played more like the All Blacks. If these two teams meet in the final it will be worthy of one of the most epic finals in history. Two brothers battling it out for supremacy.
It's interesting to note that all the French tries were scored by forwards. SA scored 3 of their 4 tries through their backs. Historically, you would expect it the other way around.
Very interesting point. That is surprising, historically speaking. However, that is not as surprising having seen SA play for the last year or two - very much developing towards back play in addition to the traditional power forwards gameplan.
It was also strange to see "high kick and regather", instead of our traditional "long kick for territory". Rassie is indeed a Rugby genius, it's hard to know what he's going to do next.
Been like that for ages, if you look at Ireland and Frances try scorers for the last 2 years, the majority of their tries where scored by forewards with some by the backs (not sure about method of scoring, but looking at player numbers that is the case), SA has been scoring through their backs for years. Its just been the hella negative international pundits that have beem falsely pushing that narrative! Been annoying me for ages!
England's biggest problem is that the Springboks will respect them. Almost to a fault. SA's eye is on the ball on Saturday. Not even the trophy itself. That in itself is a monumental obstacle the Red Roses will need to be historic to overcome. This makes for another epic we all deserve.
Exactly! Which is where the All Blacks went Wrong in the last WC..they Shifted their Focus Straight onto the Final without thinking of the Semis first, Probably they thought it Would've been a Cake Walk in the Semi-Final Against England!! on The BOKS minds they trying not to do the same Mistake that the ABs did in 2019!!
The only thing I would say after reading tons of English fans and media comments is don’t fall for their “wounded dog” facade. England can be an exceptional team on the day.
They like to put up a front, and they have had a easy pool stage going into this point of the tournament, they remain untested against a top tier1 side, but the test is on Saturday
@Canvashed if I remember we had the AB team in our pool and we lost our opening game against them in 2019, England is a top quality side take nothing away from there players, but it is like they just not linking up together nicely this year, like something is a miss, but regardless they are very good and it would be suicide to write them off in a semi final game
Seriously. You guys have THE BEST analysis of Rugby out of EVERY OTHER show I watch. Absolutely spot on. I’m from Cape Town, live in Spain and LOVE your show! Can’t wait to visit my beloved Cape Town in November as World Champions again. I watched the France game on Sunday and the guys who were supporting France where very gracious when they lost. Huge respect to France! It would’ve been more fitting for France to kick England out in the quarters, then we defeat France in the semis and go on to play the AB’s in the final! ‘95 revival! Keep up the great work guys!🙏
I stopped playing rugby relatively early, I then started a marathon running career at the ripe old age of 39 in 2000 I decided to play for my old rugby club, the clubs had integrated with previous "whites only clubs" and for the first time in my life I was playing rugby against coloured and black players, I saw the incredible talent that we as a country had not tapped into and I made a prediction that when we as a country get this right we will be unstoppable, it took till 2019 for this to manifest and if we continue to nurture and develop this massive talent pool, we will be a force in world rugby.
I have a love-hate relationship with the Boks because they are the number one worthy opponent for the All Blacks. As a kiwi, we hate losing to the Boks because they are dam good at rugby. So, I am hoping that this world cup final will be between the ABs and the Boks.
the feeling is Mutual mate most saffas feel this way too because the rivalry gone on for a long time . and ABS are the main team SA like to measure themselves against
Look it is still a semi game, i would like to see the boks still play with the intensity they have been playing so far, we need to take them upfront but also play our backline with there flair and show they are playing for our nation there family and pride and honor, it is there moment to shine as sportmen, there skills and there passion, regardless we are ao proud of them, and it is not about braging rights, it is for us for hope for love and peace
I think the Springbok team will have 7 or 8 changes. Wiese, Ox, Trevor, Kwagga, JK, Esterhuizen, Am and Moodie in. We have been testing 2 proper sides for a while now. Rassie trusts the whole squad and I think he will use the whole squad to manage player load. Cant wait for the team to be announced. Jeez I love World Cup rugby
When it comes to team selection, I'll just leave it to them. When I saw the team for Sunday I was shocked. And now I'm talking about what genius team selection it was. So I'll just leave this one to them. Clearly Jacques and Rassie know more about rugby than any of us.
I think we shouldn't underestimate the fatigue factor either. Ireland decided to play every match in this World Cup with their strongest team. They didn't apply player rotation like the Springboks. To me, that indicates that they didn't believe in their depth. When Rassie took over in 2018, he said that the difference between winning and losing among the top 4-6 teams in the world is about 1-2%. That 1-2% comes into play when your players still have near full strength in a crunch game... and it is achieved through the rotation principle and believing in the squad system. Ireland was not worse than 1-2% compared to the All Blacks; they were just 1-2% more fatigued than the All Blacks. And I'm not just talking about physical fatigue but also mental fatigue. They played tremendously enormous matches against the Boks and the Scots... and then the same team against Tonga! Mentally and physically, they became much more drained than Farrell had given credit for. In my opinion, Farrell expected too much from his players. This probably cost Ireland the cup.
Rassie has all the stats on minutes played vs rest of each player including Englands players. I think there are going to be a lot of changes in the team for Saturday. Rotation rotation rotation.
I agree with your comment, I think the key difference is Ireland also took players with niggles into quarters, simply because they just dont have like for like replacements. We fortunately have the depth and we can put some bigger guns on bench for insurance policy (bring on only in emergency).
To be honest, take Jordie Barrett’s tryline heroics away and this comment would not exist. It’s important to not retrofit causality when there are so many random events in a game of rugby that have outsized impacts on an outcome.
@@credford7Agreed, we all have a tendency to over analyze a win, both those QF could so easily have been different. That said, IRE were cooked. I don't know if they had enough gas left to get through the SF and beat FRA/SA in a final. Maybe if ENG manages to sneak a win. But now we will never know.
S a Saffa living in Scotland and having to listen to the British commentary has been kak at the best of times. When the Allblacks beat the Irish the comment was if New Zealand win they definitely do not deserve it... 😂😂😂
The strength of the Boks is the depth of our squad, so we need to put faith in it and use it. I would make significant changes. Fourie, Esterhuizen, Am, Moody, Wiese, Faf at least. Would even think about resting some strong players we really need in the final, while having them on the bench if needed, e.g.Du Toit and Kolbe.
Great rugby chat guys! I'm entertained. Keo is clearly still amped after our victory over the French...Poor Zels hardly got a word in. Although it was great to hear from Ricky 😆 Officially I just want to declare John Kirwan a monumental doos after listening to his salty 🧂 comments on The Breakdown last night.
So true about John Kirwan, I think he is still stuck at RWC 1987...which who knows who would actually have won it if the Boks had to participate. But coming to his analysis of Bok play... He is so far off its as if his comments are of some other team...
The world has always been harshly criticizing the Bokke, all the years, no matter how we play. I mean look back at AB comments on our 7/1 split a while ago... I think a lot of the disrespect originated from the AB's..... Check out the history of their negative comments towards SA and Boks. I kind of remember that they accused us of poisoning them some years ago. Etc, etc
@@ThirdEye_oOonot so straight forward cause at our best world media still say we the team that can be beaten . Everyone else lost because of their mistake not Bok been god team.
@@maridejager7931 the only person I saw strongly against the 7 1 split was Matt Williams and he's Australian. I think a lot of your fans have a big chip on your shoulder and expect the world to be against you so focus only on the negative comments that are levelled against you (which every country cops). Anyone who knows rugby understands how amazing the Bokke are and appreciates that they continually elevate our beautiful game
@danvillehoffman7844 Rassie simply teased everyone .."There is a temptation to...",when he knew the 23 will remain as is 🤣🤣🤣...Hopefully the boys can find the strength to deliver another big performance. The game against France were brutal.
The English have massive motivation to lift their game this week. Finalists last world cup , losing out to us at the last hurdle after crushing the All Blacks in the semis . You guys just about wrote off the All Blacks last week and they came back with their best game ever . Whos to say England dont do the same . Weve had some serious physical confrontations this world cup and with a quick turn around and the emotional roller coaster of the weekend i would say we rerally need to stay focused for this one . Lets not make the same mistake England made in 2019. Saying that ,Bokke all the way . What a fantastic team , fantastic rugby.
Why don't they play both semi finals on the same day to give both teams who win equal rest time before the final? The winners of semi final 1 will have an extra 24 hours recovery time compared to winners of semi final 2
Can’t wait! My neighbours over here are SA and despite the result respect will be shown! Mostly from me as I’ve gotta be humble in victory lol ! Go the blackness good luck to the bok!!
My worry is how knackered the guys are going to be - this is also the same for New Zealand. If you think of the sheer exertion is took to play Ireland and France it's staggering that any of these okes can still walk! As much as I'd love to see a New Zealand vs SA final - I write England and the Argies off at my peril, because every team has a big game in them somewhere. (Case in point: Ask the All Blacks after the 2019 semi)
i think the coaching staff showed their hand already by sendding Pollar and Moodie to last night's presser. Pollard starts and Moodie at 13 .Last week they sent Cobus and Duane to the presser. I hope they start Ox, Kitsie was smoked, he was so tired he was joining rucks from the French side lol...
Can't wait for the team announcement. Would like to see a little bit of rotation, nothing unnecessary we still need to respect England, but one or two of the guys could perhaps do with a week off or only play the last 20 while some fresh legs might make a positive impact.
Always nice to hear your insights guys, I think we will see a 6/2 split this weekend with Jasper starting at 8, agree that boks shud keep it simple, but also be unpredictable, its all about game managent, like that word game intelligence, reading the field and to make the right decision in the situation, but we have all the arsenal to play any kind of game, so i am shure we win by 10 or 12👍
One of the most stressful games ever…but what sets us apart from everyone else is our ability to go in harder when things get tough. I am sure the Ireland lost was a blow to our confidence and yes France was amazing…but nothing will ever beat our determination. In the 30% we had the ball, we made it work. As for England… great team for sure but…hier kom die bokke! 🇿🇦
Love the show boys! Ran into Zels last week - we work in the same building - thanks for the chat Zels. Please take a dig against JK and JF of the 'Breakdown" - the faces on those boys when South Africa succeed is priceless, the pain - they die inside commenting on our success....
As far as the match against France, a team that were lauded for their defencive prowess, and in between their brilliant tactical application, the Boks were able to exploit a glaring defensive weakness and score 2 tries quickly. Then on to the semi-final, I agree with 6-2 and just manage game time. Keep it tight and feed off mistakes. Don't tinker.
Hi guys I am 65year old arnold from Pretoria, very important to other rugby unions out there , in tight finishes ,the springboks are like throughbreed race horses winning in a photo finish, they are a team with no emotion n show no respect to oppositions , due or die that's the green n hold 👌👍
Awesome show guys. Living in Aus but Rugby shows here are just pro Aus and NZ no impartial balance. Keo and Zels, personally believe that NZ coach used your show as motivation, when you guys last week hammered them as not being worthy of prior players. Man did you got their tails up. So the Irish should blame you not anything else... 😅 Bokke game on the edge stuff, what worries me is the amount of physical games the English had, are they more rested? Sure Fiji is physical, and even Argentinia, but where they really as harsh as pool D and bokke QF? Even the NZ's had a bit of a warmup before Ireland. But Bokke have been running pretty much high octane, lets hope they can keep it going, as you said player management. But if Bokke win this Cup, no one can say they had it easy. Keep the show going guys, nice and easy
Still few questions from certain journalists to Jacques about hus arrogance in speaking about the semi-final team contentions prior, and to Rassie about the exploitation of the HIA's, which wasn't needed if you are not going to state/imply it directly, but it was answered in truth which ultimately matters. Great show again 👍
That was a physically and emotionally taxing game especially for Jessie, Doogz, Eben, etc. we need our key players available and in top form to beat the ABs including Bongi. I hear you regarding giving the poms a sniff but we need to trust the depth we’ve built in the last 4 years. For what it’s worth here’s my team for the SF: 1 Ox 2 Deon 3 Vincent 4 Jean 5 RG 6 Siya 7 PSdT 8 Jasper 9 Faf 10 Handre 11 Canaan 12 Andre 13 Lucky 14 Kurt-Lee 15 Damian 16 Kitsy 17 Marco 18 Trevor 19 Sous 20 Kwagga 21 Duane 22 Manie 23 Grant, crazy I know … 😂
I don’t make predictions and I like to see supporters stay humble. On Sunday I became one of those supporters I dislike. Began watching in my hotel room, then went down to the bar. There was a group of Frenchmen and others supporting them and whatever went well for the French they cheered, fair enough. But any tiny mistake by the Boks, they laughed and made a big thing of it. I shouted that they should come back and talk to me in 80 minutes (a bit bold considering the score at the time, but I was tired of their arrogant shit). After my day and a half of Spanish cuisine, I thought I’d walk over and crop-dust them a few times, just to start some infighting and “whodunnit?” I’ll admit, we had a few calls go our way.
IMHO France lost the test in the 73rd minute when Ramos took the penalty points. At that point, France were only four points down and could have kicked to the corner to push for a try to win the match - having enjoyed consistent line-out and gain-line advantage all match. They closed the deficit to one point but restart meant they played the rest of the match was played mostly in their half/22. By contrast, the Springkboks - in th 67' and when trailing by six - turned down a simple penalty under the posts in favour of a high-risk tap penalty to take the lead. Who dares wins.
The bokke have been building depth for a reason, knowing that 3 of the lead up to the semi games will be extremely tough. Put together with the emotional side of things, being hard to pick oneself up to high emotional levels again in short turnaround times. Meaning they must pick a "new" team vs the team that played France, to avoid this pitfall. Any combination of the current WC squad will beat England, as long as their head space is right.
No he isn't actually looking at the camera, there is a tv there, if you watched the episode before this one, you would have realised it.zels addressed this particular thing that you mentioned.
Great comments guys. Ireland will never admit it but if they substituted Sexton on the 70th minute they would have won. Sexton was out on his feet and could not think to do something different when they were starring a loss in the face.
I was really impressed with the way England dealt with the physicality of the flying Fijians. Geez those Fijians are wrecking cannon balls. So England will take great confidence in that and will be inspired to meet the Springboks in that aspect. As for the Bokke, according to traditional style of play, our physicality has not been up to par. The mauls are no longer impactful. The lineouts are not as strong as they use to be. But scrum time, we can still skop n donner 😂 France may have given the English ammunition to counter the rush defense. France worked that chip over the rush and having a support player running on the shoulder to perfection. It’s a beauty to watch but can it be maintained for the full 80 is another question. The difference between the two teams on Saturday will be tactical execution of their respective game plans.
Dealing with Fiji should give you absolutely no carry on with regards to dealing with bok physicality.... its a completely different universe 😂😂. Fiji physicality and springbok physicality is are 2 very different things ... Fiji is pretty standard to deal with for most international teams ... the boks ... not
@@africanmamba1021first go try tackle a marauding Fijian and then come back to resume this talk. Assuming you pass the HIA test 😵💫😂 Did you see Marcus Smith after the game? 🤕
SA also have HUGE respect for ABS deffinately . Something that Ireland need to learn . Most SA fans respect Abs . ABS consistently always been the top side
As a South African I think France laid out a blueprint for England on how to beat South Africa in the first 30 mins of the game by playing those fast passes and kicking over Springboks defence and avoiding contact with South African defence.
I mean sure but the England pack hasn’t shown much dominance in their games so far. They are solid but not sure if they have the cattle to gain parity up front. Backs don’t matter if this doesn’t happen.
@@MARKKEOtvlove your passion and the fact that you have the knowledge as well. Dont wear a muzzle - but would be fun to hear Zels theories as well (and have you respond to them). More “stories” from behind the scenes please! Humanizes the mythology - and provides well received contextuals. Love this show - my “go to” for thought provoking informed commentary. Last - maybe invite Squidge onto the show on occasion (or Two Cents) - then sponsors may sit up and pay to watch .
I also just listened. It's unreal how Tindall (especially) & co go on & on & on about everything negative about SA. They don't have to support or even like SA but the tripe that comes out of their mouths is ridiculous.
Boks have beaten England four times out of five in World Cups - including three at the Stade de France! Two of these four were in finals. The overall record is 27 wins out of 45 to the Boks as well. Good luck England!
Weise should start with Duane on the bench. Weise will be eager to play, he knows the English style and at Duane's age you have to manage his minutes carefully to get the best out of him.
