Kerry had taken a Doctor's prescription pad and began writing his own scrips. The pharmacy checked in with the Doctor's office and Kerry was going to be brought up on charges for the scripts. Vicodin and Valium I believe were two of the main ones. He was told he may face time, or a long probation and rehab. So instead of facing the possibility of prison time or a long rehab, and with the family history of suicide factored in, he took his own life. I remember the 1993 episode of Entertainment Tonight I watched that broke the story. I hope the Adkisson family found peace on the other side, something it seems they could never do here.

Yeah, I agree. Kerry was arguably dealt the best hand of all of his brothers, with his good looks, and natural charsima. Kerry connected with the fans like few other performers ever have, and he would sign autographs and visit sick, dying children whenever he could. Kerry was given the I-C strap within a few months of arriving in the WWE and he deserved it. He was a pillar of the Golden Age of the WWE, and in my opinion, the WWE's ratings and merchandise decline from mid-to late-1992, was due in large part, to Kerry missing shows, as a result of a stint in rehab and his eventual departure from the company. Kerry left his mark on pro wrestling, and there will never be another performer quite like him. 👼

Kerry Von Erich was one of the nicest, most fan-friendly pro wrestlers in the history of the business. I was fortunate to watch him (as I-C champion) wrestle Mr. Perfect in late-1990. I also had his Texas Tornado action figure. I was shocked and saddened to hear about his death in early 1993. In the first 3 months of 1993, fans were hit with 3 big name wrestler deaths. Andre the Giant died in January, Dino Bravo died in February, then Kerry Von Erich in March. Every time I picked up an issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, I thought: "Who else has died?"

I often wonder, if David Von Erich had not died so unexpectedly, would his 4 younger brothers have suffered the fates that they did? Once David died, the wheels came off. David's brothers were closer to him than they were to their own father Fritz. When David died, his 4 younger brothers spoke of an eagerness to be "reunited with him soon." I think this fueled a lot of their reckless behavior, like the wild antics which led to Kerry's motorcycle accident, foot amputation, pain-killer addiction, and eventual suicide.

That's true. The way that Kerry conducted himself in interviews and in the ring, you'd never know that he had such inner torment. He was the consummate professional. Kerry also signed autographs and visited sick & dying children whenever he could. His fans meant a lot to him, and he really enjoyed brightening their day. Among the guys who worked with him, Kerry is regarded as one of the most likeable performers of all time.

Kerry was my first ever favorite Wrestler, i dont even remember which promotion it was because i was basically a kid in the early 80s and didnt even realize there were different promotions. i thought all Wrestlers fought all Wrestlers, Mid South Wrestling is the one i remember in my head watching here in Oklahoma City. but yeah i just a really skinny but really tall awkward kid and i thought Kerry was so cool, then later on he was The Texas Tornado and he would come out to that White Snake song and the crowd went crazy and he was just awesome.

I can relate, I was a kid in the 80's also and in East Tennessee, so as a kid I thought that Crockett NWA was the only wrestling association that existed, well WWF but as kids we hated WWF.
@Scorch1028
@Scorch1028 2 года назад
Among the guys who worked with him, no one has a single negative thing to say about Kerry Von Erich. He is known as one of the most likeable performers in the history of the business. Kerry got along with virtually everybody, inside and out of the ring. He's among the ranks of Owen Hart, Sting, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan in terms of his friendliness. Kerry was just an all-around great guy, who unfortunately lost his battle with opioid addiction, stemming from a motorcycle accident in 1986. Losing 4 of his brothers to untimely deaths only compounded Kerry's inward struggles, but he seemed to be able to "turn off" the meloncholy when it came to wrestling and interacting with his fans. Kerry "worked hurt", for a long time, and sadly he took his own life, while he was on a phone call with his brother Kevin. Kerry Von Erich was truly one of a kind, and a legend in the business.

Pretty big shoes to fill, life's hard enough when you don't have a entire state if not country watching everything you do. I think with Kerry it was mainly shame, which sucks because who among us wants their dirty laundry exposed and ridiculed by complete strangers? Let's alone hundreds of thousands of complete strangers.
@Scorch1028
@Scorch1028 2 года назад
Yes, Kerry had some pretty big shoes to fill, being Fritz Von Erich's son, and I'd say that he more than measured up, with the 40 separate titles that Kerry held throughout his career. It's very sad that he wasn't able to control his personal demons. He left behind 2 young daughters, and Kerry was the "5th child" that his parents lost. Kerry's sudden passing was a tragic end to an amazing career that could have lasted for many more years.

Let this be a lesson on why you don't let people off easy because they're a celebrity, friend, or family. When you turn a blind eye to someone's problematic behavior, when you lie for them, especially to cover up their substance abuse, you're not helping them anywhere except closer to an early grave.
