Mark, you often mention that you had 3 knee surgery. Mind sharing some recovery / knee strengthening routines? Thanks 👍

Basically everything I do is designed to work post physical therapy. But leaning into single arm club is a strategy to recover.
@MarkWildman
@MarkWildman 2 года назад
What specifically would you like to know
@theIdeaSensei
@theIdeaSensei 2 года назад
Thanks for replying Mark... specifically I find it difficult to bend my knees at the moment (even standing up from a full squat, I need assistance - holding on to something). Is there any thing specific I can do now to get back to "normal mobility"?
@MarkWildman
@MarkWildman 2 года назад
How long post surgery? How serious was the surgery. I only worked on standing for .., 9 months? Single arm club progressions to force myself to equally share load between legs, obviously physical therapy. Then extremely controlled hip series. Then integrated body flow programs (which is why I structure my body flow programs very specifically). It’s all about removing the braking system on the body through increments of progression

Great stuff Mark! I'm 68 but I still do a lot of construction/remodeling work. These workouts are much better for that than bar weights. As anybody who does construction work knows, you are constantly squatting down and getting up, or holding something heavy with one hand and manipulating a tool with the other, so lots of unequal loading. I'm a construction magazine journalist and if you'd ever consider doing a video on tips and exercises for people who do manual labor for a living, I'm sure I could get it published and promoted by one of the magazines I work for. Contrary to what many people think there are a lot of construction guys who are big into weights and fitness. Keep up the good work. Tom

Thank you for this excellent deadlift variation. I have an 80lb KB. Near the end of my 1-hour workout when my quads & glutes are sufficiently fatigued, I'll do some basic high-rep deadlifts for a good burn, but this new move will be used early when I'm fresh.

@a.lame.username.
@a.lame.username. 2 года назад
From my understanding, that is not really valid in respect to kettlebells. It's all about your current level. Me for example, post injury, nothing more than 12-16kg. Six months of injury free training and 24-32kg become my light/heavy.
@giatonpeonta8071
@giatonpeonta8071 2 года назад
@@a.lame.username. that's definitely true in the context of heavy/light days, but when we're talking about trying a new technique with a light weight, i think it should refer to a percentage of bodyweight. for example, there's a ceiling to what you can press, that's more or less objective and depends on your bodyweight. the heavy part should be somewhere in that vicinity. light should be somewhere where it's safe to start for a total beginner but not ridiculously light, and intermediate somewhere in the middle

It’s a condor soft shell I got at a thrift store and taylored myself on a juki. Split the side seems. Put 2 darts in the back, reassembled the side seams. Pulled the zipper. Hemmed the bottom to be above my tool belt. Put the zipper back in. Then modded the hood. It wasn’t cut to go over a thick wool sweater though like I’m wearing it here. I should do another one but cut it to go over my heavy sweater.

@@MarkWildman Ah interesting, thanks for the clarification. It is a translation issue, because in Germany Deadlift is normally translated „Kreuzheben“ - here the literal translation is „lower back lifting“. But „dead weight“ makes a lot of sense!
@psgivens
@psgivens 2 года назад
@@MarkWildman I share Christopher's understanding. It is hard enough to get people to understand that a deadlift bends at the hip, not the knees, without adding this new definition where a squat is a type of deadlift. What is your word for the exercise that others call a deadlift?

I pack the shoulders when I do deadlifts. My thought is that it protects the three joints in shoulder girdle. In a cross body deadlift, you can't pack the shoulder. Do I have an irrational fear of doing harm to the shoulder if I do cross body deadlifts? I don't have a history of any shoulder pain nor do I want to do these with too light weight kettlebells. Thanks.
