I don't trust a kettlebell instructor unless I see the paint worn off the middle of the kettlebell or if the instructor is teaching the 1-arm swing aka the kettlebell swing. Having trained under Valery Fedorenko, I can attest this is how the kettlebell swing should be done. Props to you man. Way to keep the integrity in our sport.

This is one of the most helpful videos I have seen for this swing. The only thing that MORE helpful is watching actual competitions. The bucket analogy was perfect for me to conceptualize what should happen during the swing. Thank you.

Gosh, I'm thinking of crossing over to this style of Kettlebells. I have been training for a hard style cert, however my lower back keeps playing I have SI facet joint problems. Didn't get any pain with this type of swing.

Joe D, you recommend this as a start drill for the sport style. I have plenty of experience moving a KB around, mainly HS, but looking to find a set of drills to help me become efficient and smooth. I’m just a Dad wanting to have fun workouts at home while getting a good workout and having a focus.

The rocking motion, the double bending and locking of the knees, this is different and a little awkward compared to the hardstyle swing. Is there a way to learn and practice this unloaded (without holding a KB) before executing the swing with a KB?

Just think how it feels to jump on a trampoline. I do many styles of swings. High tension "HARDSTYLE" and several other variants

Is this easier for the lower back than the hardstyle?

Depends on weight used. But many people feel that way. Hardstyle is maximal effort. Not something i want to use as my only tool.

very helpful. and keep practice in this way. Just feel when the bell drops down, I'd just give it a little push, rather than let the bell drag me down, which makes my wrist/should feel the pulling impact. I think "absorbing" does not only mean "buffering/cushioning", also means "conforming/guiding". Thank you for your detailed instruction and demo.

A question, i do mostly the hardstyle swings and pretty much everything and my question to you is do you reverse your breathing in the hardstyle? Exhale when you go up?

In hardstyle you exhale on the swing up. For sports style swings you breathe in on the way up. Not sure the type of breathing he’s using here, but usually sports style uses anatomical breathing (swing up, breathe in. Swing down breathe out) for endurance.

Do these hit the same muscles groups as the hardstyle swings equally? What's the difference if there is any?

They both use the same muscles yet hardstyle is more like a Sprinter versus sportstyle like this is a little bit more like an endurance Runner you should use both Styles in my opinion to get different benefits

@@kettlebellmusclegain Thanks for the prompt reply! Your channels is a treasure trove for kettlebell related info which is great! I picked up kBs because of the covid situation. I took my time with them. Learned the form and everything, posted form check vids on r/kettlebell for swings, and everything is fine but for some reason heavier swings(hardstyle) irritate my lower back so that's why I am looking to switch over, atleast in case of swings maybe C & J too. Just wanted to know can sportstyle build muscle, I know it's more about endurance, about going the distance, can it be programmed for hypertrophy. Also is it a bad idea to do sportstyle with a cast iron bell, like the hardsryle bell? Like 5-10-15 mins. I don't intend to jump on the 30/60 train right away. I have noticed calluses already doing some hardstyle complexes for long durations.

Great video. I saw you twist to change hands. I normally just swap hands at the top. Your spin looks more complicated. Do it have advantages?

I brace fully all the time . havent had an issue in 12 years. Bur if you feel kore confident then just switch immediately at the top of the swing.

Are the handles on the sport style not wide enough for two handed swings? I can only afford about 3 total right now so i need them to be versatile and im not sure which style to get.

you can but comps are meant for one hand each. get two lighter ones and one heavier one. remember 2x12=24kg therefore you can swing and clean 2 12 kg bells and be swinging 24kg! check my favorite bells paradigm pro elite here . www.kettlebellsusa.com?aff=8

+SwingThis Kettlebell and Fundamental Strength You definitely hit the nail on the head! I'm trying to work on getting smoother because my current form destroys my grip. I just haven't figured out to how absorb the KB with my legs on the way down yet.

I put a projector in my garage to follow along with the techniques you show on your channel thanks so much man. I almost went and bought a 32kg eleiko competition kbbut really expensive even for one, since my 16kg competition kb and my 24kg hard style are feeling too light now. I actually used to do 110lb dumbell standing presses with easy but kb is another type of animal that really helps get you into condition. Right now I'm loving the built Armour complex 2 cleans a press and 3 squats. But how often should I do it? Any good complex for a big wide back you can recommend?
