Kevin Costner EXPLAINS ‘Yellowstone’ Exit: ‘Time to Move On’ (Exclusive)

Kevin Costner sat down with “Extra’s” Billy Bush to talk about his new Civil War-era Western “Horizon: An American Saga,” a four-part project that he spent $38 million of his own fortune to make. The first chapter is in theaters June 28 and follows a group of pioneers led by Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, and Luke Wilson as they battle for life in the American West. Kevin also opened up about his decision to move on “gracefully” from “Yellowstone” and being “proud” of what he was able to do with it. Plus, he spoke about the royal dream he had once hoped to make come true - getting Princess Diana to make her film debut in a sequel to “The Bodyguard” with Whitney Houston.

Excited for Horizon, Costner is a legend. He made Yellowstone the best in my opinion, without him it ain’t gonna have the same weight.

I like that one a lot. It’s a great movie. I think Tombstone may have inadvertently overshadowed it, I actually like both but I prefer Costner as Wyatt Earp. He’s a great actor in my opinion.

It’s really unfortunate that Taylor & Kevin could not make it work. The constant issues between them has cost the audience and employees the entire show. So silly to cancel Yellowstone and close the chapter entirely and start up yet another spinoff (it’s too confusing). They could have just said John Dutton was away at the capital in the Governor’s mansion and leave the door open and the series intact. This decision may kill the entire series and it is a real shame.

I'm not giving up any hope until Yellowstone Season 5B is actually out. Maybe they'll surprise us. If he indeed will not be in it, it will be such a shame and honestly quite frustrating. Yellowstone is the best show of recent years, by a long shot, and Costner just seems to throw it away like that with no regard for the fans or the legacy of the show.
