The Brooklyn Nets are off to a rough start with a 6-9 record to start the season. During an interview with Bleacher Report, Kevin Durant was asked about many topics, including his leadership. He responded, saying quote: 'I'm not a leader? What the (expletive) does that mean? I don’t need to show or tell everybody what I’m doing with my teammates so y’all can pump me up and say, ‘Yeah, KD, you’re the boss, you’re the leader.' Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, LeSean McCoy and David Helman react to KD's response.

A true leader is one that is vocal, a individual who takes charge and keeping his team United, and set an example with his performance as well. A leader is also somewhat like a social worker within the team who cares enough to get involved with individuals when they see there's a disruption in the flow of the team on and off the court. OK so I’m going to tell you where you are wrong… everything that we are saying pertaining to high-level sports. We can’t even speak on it to that degree as far as calling someone a leader. I haven’t play high-level sports and you haven’t played high-level sports, so to say what leader ship is in the environment of high-level athletes. I think we should pause and take the advice of those who actually are high-level athletes. None of them say that kd is not a leader it is only the media who more than likely are athletes, who were below average.

Duncan was a silently composed leader in public. He would say the right things, not make any disparaging comments about his team, or opponents. But behind the scenes, he would take on the mantle of leadership. His teammates gravitated toward him, and fed off of his energy. But even though he was composed in public, he did some subtle things that fans didn't know about until after he retired. Like how Kevin Garnett revealed Duncan talked a lot of trash in game. But it was small stuff like, "almost", "you tried", "good attempt", etc. And I never forget the one time I heard him say something borderline bulletin board material. After reaching the Finals the 2nd year in a row against Miami, during the on-court post-game interview, he said something along the lines of, "We worked to get back here, but this time we're going to finish it." It was said so casually and quietly (like his usual tone), that I had to do a double take to realize he just guaranteed a championship on national TV. It wasn't disrespectful, but the way he just said, "Yea, we're gonna win" is that type of quiet, confident leadership that Duncan had.

Why are they asking why people don't think KD is a leader? He's not a leader because he specifically said "I am not a leader." He may have said it while in GS, but what has he said or done to make us think he's changed his mentality on being a leader (before this recent interview). Also, LeSean is lying through his teeth, and is showing his clear bias. I don't like Rodgers, and I'm a big KD fan. But what KD said about his teammates is just as bad, if not worse, than what Rodgers has said this season. KD put his team on blast, and used their full name when talking about them. Not their first names, not nicknames, but their legal names. That's showing a disconnect on top of putting his teammates on blast. That was a pretty shady move from KD, and LeSean trying to make excuses for it is weak.

Stat wise kd is on steph and lebrons level but thats metrics...but when it comes to other qualities thats more about leadership and locker room and having the ability to galvanize a team and get everyone on the same page. Kd is NOT on their level at all. And That aspect affects his legacy in HOW ITS TOLD. This is where Barkleys busdriver/busrider analogy is so fitting and enduring...dude coined a phrase that will be used far into the future about other athletes across sports. Legacy isn't just about stats and achievements its also about how the people around responded to your presence. And so far NO ONE ever talks about that when they talk about him. So his talent assures a place in the HOF and one of the GOATs status...BUT his attitude and how he carries himself in the PROFESSION is sorely lacking...same for kryrie, harden, simmons and westbrook and a few others. It aint ALL about talent.
