I believe the trailers and marketing truly did a disservice to this movie. It revealed pretty much all the cameos except for one. They should have just marketed it purely as Dr Strange and Wanda movie and allowed people to be surprised by the few cameos it did have.

Exactly. It made me think that, for them to be willing to release that much, there will be 10x more in the film. They basically gave it all away in the trailers. The only surprises for me was Mr Fantastic and couple of the other Illuminati, but they lasted 5min then get their heads blown up. So disappointing!

Rob is right. This is a "minor MCU movie", not an Avenger-level, just a Doctor Strange adventure. Let's appreciate that Marvel is doing something different, a comic book movie with Sam Raimi's style of horror.

I can’t blame people for feeling ambitious and hyped up about this film given the title is called “Multiverse of Madness”. For me from the minute the film was announced to only reach over 2 hours long I accepted it wasn’t gonna be the cameo event film people were expecting and were hoping for, and I won’t lie to say that I was looking forward to seeing all that. And to me, this is such a great Doctor Strange and one of the best directed films of the entire MCU. I had an absolute blast and I hope when people watch it for a second time and realise where their expectations are at, that they have a good time with it.

People seem to go into every movie expecting to be as big as endgame or even no way home, just sat there with a notebook ready to count cameos and shocks, I really enjoyed this movie but not for the reasons I expected to! It was very fast paced and also fairly self contained regarding the MCU, it felt like it could have been made in 2008/10 when it wouldn't have had the weight and expectation of an entire world's fans in its shoulders to be the next big "event" movie, I really enjoyed it for what it was!

I think this is up there with my favorite marvel movie. It had that Sam Raimi "Evil Dead" vipe all over and i was here for it. I also saw some "Drag me to Hell" in there. Wow, I thought this was leagues above the first Dr. Strange, which was a good but middling and unremarkable MCU movie. Sam Raimi has thrice the talent and style of Scott Derrickson. I agree that Elizabeth Olsen was exceptional in this movie, worthy of an Academy Award nomination, but you are naive if you really think she is actually going to get a nomination. The Academy thumb their noses at movies like this. The only reason Black Panther got a nomination for Best Picture is because it came at a time the Academy was under scrutiny for not recognizing enough black actors and filmmakers, and because the movie was such a cultural phenomenon.

I LOVED it. I thought it was a solid addition to the MCU and glad I watched it. My ONLY negative is that I think people needed to have watched WandaVision to fully appreciate the movie. I'm not sure why so many are saying it didn't live up to expectations.. and as such lower their "score" for the movie. That is unfair. The expectations were all on you! I felt they gave us plenty of the multiverse. I loved the cameos (my favorite part of the movie) and have no issue with any of it. Great movie.

I loved MoM but I have to admit, it left me a little underwhelmed. I absolutely thought there would be repercussions from SM NWH that Dr. Strange would have to face but honestly, there weren't any. And I TOTALLY agree that trailers showed too much. The Illuminati scene should've been way more impactful than it was. If Professor X would've been kept a secret, that scene would've definitely resonated more to me. Since this film didn't really delve too deeply into the multiverse and the different iterations or variants of characters, I think Feige may be reserving that for Quantamania.

I think this film will age well. Tbh, when I saw Patrick Stewart in the trailer I was almost certain we were going to get all sorts of crazy cameos, maybe even Tom cruise, Chris Evans etc. I couldn't believe they would reveal that in the trailer if it was the only big twist (which barring krasinski it really was). Expectations were too high and we are all understandably a bit disappointed but in the cold light of day, this was a good movie with a decent plot and some great action (plus America Chavez pleasantly surprised me).

****CONTAINS SPOILERS**** Solid movie. Definitely a more personal story for Strange & Wanda than an epic team up like Civil War. The title might be a bit misleading. Probably would be more fitting to be called "Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch". He passed through several universes in only a few seconds. But mainly the story took place in one alternate universe. My biggest issues are 1. how Wanda so easily killed the Illuminati especially Charles. I think that entire scene could use a few more minutes. I wanted to see Charles being a badass. 2. I didn't like the scene where Christine fought off those ghosts. Felt cheesy and unnecessary. Otherwise, I liked most of the movie. Didn't like it as much as the first Doctor Strange (one of my all-time favorites). For now, I give it a solid 8 out of 10.
@RYU583
@RYU583 2 года назад
I enjoyed it as well , but some scenes were really cheesy. 1. Where Wong flies off the cliff and then reappears later in the movie at the edge of a cliff 2. When America learns her powers at the end within seconds after an entire life of having problems. 3. Ultron bots were useless 4. Professor X should have more than held his own against SW 5. What in the actual fuck was the point of the musical notes as weapons 😐 6. Bruce Cambell scene was dumb Movie was fun and scary...just wish the Russo Brothers handled it....they understand how to incorporate a seriousness and it really pays off
@Yic17Studio
@Yic17Studio 2 года назад
@@RYU583 I believe Russo Brothers are the best MCU had. Cap 2, Civil War & Endgame are all my favorites. MCU is getting a bit too comical without the Russos - feels like there's no weight. Their movies feel a lot more grounded & intense. I really think MCU should get them back.

@@Yic17Studio They might return to direct another Avengers movies. I just don't think that they can direct Doctor Strange 2, so Sam Raimi is a perfect fit for the movie IMO. The issues that most people are having is not about Raimi, but it's about the script writer. Ironically enough, Michael Waldron, who wrote the amazing show called LOKI pulled off the multiverse aspect of the story. I don't know why he can't do it in Doctor Strange 2. He was such a disappointment.
@Yic17Studio
@Yic17Studio 2 года назад
@@michaelrobosa146 I love Loki. It's my favorite MCU TV show. Well even though he's the writer, the producer (Feige) & director (Raimi) still have power over the story. So can't blame completely on the writer. Who knows if anything he wrote got changed. And writing for TV & movie is different. TV you have a lot more time. Movie you have to cram everything into 2 hours. So you could say it's much harder. Plus the original cut was 2 hours 40 minutes, they cut out 35 minutes of footage. There might be something in cut footage that would actually help the movie - like if there's 5 more minutes of Xavier vs. Wanda. That would help Xavier not seem so weak.

Makes no sense to me. -Wanda is not good enough to be a main villain, sorry but someone has to say it. She should have been a side villain to a main bad. -I do however love the Zombie strange thing I thought that whole thing was very cool. -Mordo is still an excellent character to me even though I thought it was odd how Strange mentioned Mordo going after him but we never really got to see that after the ending of the first Strange film. -The illuminati, oh boy 🤦🏾 first I want to say I thought that whole part was good right up until Wanda showed up. The banter between characters was great but that ending to it just felt forced and cheap. -Lastly this makes me feel bad for Raimi because I truly don't think this was his fault. He has a particular style and it just doesn't seem to mesh with the MCU. This is literally the only thing Raimi has done that left me disappointed. Even the Bruce Campbell part wasn't good to me and I absolutely love everything Raimi and Campbell does but not this. My whole thought process when it came to the cameos was, "Well if a studio like Marvel is willing to put Professor X and Maria's Captain Marvel in the trailers, that must mean their hiding some other really big stuff." Turns out that wasn't the case. If you saw the main trailer, you saw pretty much everything DS2 has to offer. Suprises, variants, story beats. I also agree that the multiverse was an element of the film but not the basis of the film. I would've titled this "Doctor Strange and The Dangers of the Darkhold." Much better, more fitting title for the film.

I liked the movie but I didn't love it, I enjoyed Sam Raimi's style but if it means sacrificing the emotional elements of the story because of some cheesy dialogue and rushed scenes... Idk I have a theory that they cut many emotional Wanda scenes specially at the end because they were afraid The Scarlet Witch overshadowed Dr Strange in his own movie (even though some could argue that she kinda does anyway). And it's because of this that Wanda ends up feeling, at least for me, very one dimensional which she definitely wasn't throughout wandavision.

I’m so glad I chose to stop watching multiple trailers. I didn’t go in with the same high expectations as everyone else. So it’s understandable why some people may be disappointed due to them expecting this movie to be something it’s not. Honestly people have kind’ve been spoiled and I think this movie is pretty good because of how focused the story was. We didn’t need to see anybody else, maybe they could’ve world build more with details from the other universe’s but I think Marvel didn’t want to throw all of their chips on the table just yet. Just have to see what’s more to come.

I've never been a huge Raimi fan, although I do like his earlier work. That said, I was thoroughly entertained and was caught up in the emotional journey of the characters. I even shed a tear when it made sense to do so - and that was unexpected! If found the underlying theme a true and timely examination of the dangers inherent in possessing a comparative view of one's on reality. I believe it helped a great deal that I didn't have any preconceived notions as to what the movie should or would be. Are you "happy"? Easily a "B+."

Don't understand the criticisms. It was an incredibly tight horror fantasy film. The expectations of the larger MCU universe have actually hurt it but it needs to be judged on the story and it was emotional, tense and Wanda made d genuinely fearful villain.

Wanda only works as a villain IMHO if Chthon's influence is shown. Without that it's just the lame "hysterical woman" trope that Marvel loves to recycle with all their superheroines.

@@vice2versa Not using Xavier to show the Darkhold/Chthon's influence on Wanda was astonishingly dumb storytelling. They literally had the perfect narrative device to reveal Chthon, and passed on it.

This film was originally to be released months after WandaVision and I think the marketing should have made references and pointed back to WandaVision. Because I think general moviegoers will understandably go in thinking it's a continuation of what happened in Spider-man NWH and could be disappointed. That being said it could make $266 million this weekend and none of this matters.

It was a solid MCU movie, but it certainly could have been much better. To me the disappointment comes from missed opportunities of what this movie could have been. The main one being the Wanda vs Wanda story. While it had its moments, they were far too short and underdeveloped.

I agree people are a bit too harsh on this movie I really enjoyed watching it I found myself theorizing throughout the entire thing sure it’s not the best MCU movie but I thought it was good enough to enjoy I hate it when people pick apart literally everything about the characters like RR who is supposed to be one of the smartest men in the MCU really dying the way he did etc. But I think that scene was essential to display how Fucking scary Wanda really is! Idk maybe it’s because I just watched it ima give it one or two more watches and see how I really feel!

This definitely felt a 7/10 for me. I loved the horror aspect of it and the acting was nice, especially Olsen. But the movie really needed that runtime. The pacing had some problems along with the writing on some parts, but still enjoyed it in the theaters nonetheless. Hopefully an extended version comes out.

I love that this is a "minor mcu movie" and strictly a Dr Strange movie. Unlike Captain America Civil War that was just like another Avengers movie, not a cap sequel. I personally loved this movie. I did not go in for the fan-theory speculation this time around as I find it can actually kill my anticipation for some projects and I was better off for it. I figured there would be another “WandaVision” situation and it seems like that’s what we’re getting with some fan reaction. This movie set up a lot for the future. People don’t seem to get that this was never an end to the multiverse but this is still just the beginning. “Secret Wars” is coming and Kang is here, there’s still a lot of ground to tread with this new chapter. And I did get some good surprises from the cameos. Glad it wasn’t just an endless parade of them though.

For me No Way Home is best Marvel movie post Endgame, and I think this is the next best Marvel movie. I think the over-speculation that happens with Marvel movies might lead to a bit of a disappointment. That is why I never watch videos like New Rockstar where a guy makes up theories and 98% of them never happen in the actual movie. If judge the movie on it's on merits it is very good. A MCU movie with real horror elements and some of the most gruesome deaths ever seen in an MCU film.

I agree with Christian says about the trailers (and I even talked about it in another JCS video today). There's some stuff they showed that validated and probably amplified some expectations about the Multiverse of it that maybe is not exactly what the movie is offering, which, it seems to me, is a big part of the backlash of the movie's reception. It's less about the trailers spoiling things and more about creating misleading expectations.

@@bankvfx8887 MAJOR SPOILER ALERT FOR MY ANSWER🚨🚨🚨 - I’m a big Strange fan, having his Solo movie pretty high in my rankings, don’t know why, just love the character. - I loved the plot behind this, with Wanda being corrupted and again willing to do anything to make herself happy. - The entire Illuminati scene caught me so off guard and I was jaw dropped by each character (I didnt watch any trailer’s because I heard they revealed too much) Mainly Krasinki’s Mr.Fantastic, I just am in love with that casting and cameo. - The ruthless feel of the movie, Like we all know Scarlett Witch is one of the most powerful beings, but this movie did a great job at showing how powerful she is, the fight with Illuminati was easy for her, effortless almost. - I am a SUCKER for visual effects, the movie was beautiful, Raimi’s mind always amazes me, the scene in Xavier’s mind was beautiful with the white blank and red, blood like smoke, and the terrifying end to that scene. It felt dark as well with the bloody, Carrie reference from Wanda and the horrifying shot that was Black Bolt killing himself. It blew me away - I felt the movie had a good comedic relief even with it being a darker movie, I had a good laugh in multiple scenes. - I loved the arc of Strange finally realizing he can’t control everything and do it all, and being able to put his ego aside, letting Chavez defeat Wanda in the end. - I could probably go on but that’s the biggest ones

Elizabeth Olsen was damn good man but getting an Oscar nom for acting is very tough for blockbuster films that aren't specifically geared for the awards (sorry Gravity). She's good but the only ones so far that have made it are tremendous achievements and definitive performances. Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Glenn Close as Cruella, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow.
