All the hate and snobbery going on here is ridiculous. He obviously has an appreciation for timepieces and regardless of whether he knows every little intricacy about each piece, it doesn't warrant the hate. That's the issue with pretty certain hobby communities, the "connoisseurs" feel like they have some type of special privilege or are somehow more deserving of the items in question. He likes them, he can afford them, let him enjoy them in his own way. That's the real beauty and purpose of collecting or having a hobby.
The Rolex Sky Dweller with black strap and face is a stunning piece. Some of the other watches he has are a bit to loud for me but wow there's a lot of money tied up in that watch box. If I had his kind of wealth I guess my tastes would begin to vary too.
It's always nice to see an appreciation for a nice watch. It means I get to see videos like these with a bunch of gorgeous watches. Mmmmm, nothing like a good, classy, watch to make the right impression.
Hey, everyone settle down.. We all do the same thing - gravitate toward a certain type and look of a watch. John Mayer has about 30 almost identical looking IWCs lol.
True, but I think there is a difference in owning thirty IWC's or thirty Rolexes. For the more modest or calvinistic collector or watch lover, Rolex is just a no go. Not because they don't make beautiful, awesome, incredibly tough and incredibly reliable watches, but because what the brand Rolex has become through all the dumb celebrities, wiseguys, pickeys and pimps wearing them. Rolex has become the go-to watch for snobs, in my humble opinion. And by that, to me personally, it makes them as gaudy as a Hublot, a Richard Mille or a Royal Oak (again, just my humble opinion). Don't get me wrong: I don't state that every Rolex owner or Rolex lover is a snob, but every snob has a Rolex. And that's why I rather wear something else (preferably German) despite Rolex offers the most awesome options for a man with tiny wrists like me (I cannot wear anything over 38mm). Kind regards from Amsterdam
JD that's the last thing the watch industry needs right now, exclusivity. I get what you're saying and you're not all that wrong, but brands have to appeal a variety of consumers right now, not just the horology 'experts'.
The glaring difference between Mayer and Hart is that Mayer knows his watches. In his Hodinkee interview he spoke s naturally about the minutiae of his pilot's watch as well as the others he had brought along for show and tell
JD It's such a shame that it's like that. I love the Rolex submariner it really is my favorite and only luxury watch I aspire to own someday but unfortunately people just associate the brand Rolex with people who just want to look rich and don't care about watches.
+Andrey Karayvansky comedy actors in general (eg:rowan atkinson, simon pegg, nick frost) and yes Americans are on top of the list but we can't ignore others! :D
I must say a really nice collection even though you have no vintage watches I really appreciate this collection it's a very nice and worthy collection I'm sure with time you will have more vintage and more of a all-around category in your collection. Respect I like Kevin even more now cheers from Miami Ecuador!
I always loved watches but don't know a lot about them. As a kid, I had more than 10 watches, my collection. Lost em all, now I'm tryna start from scratch.
Too many watch snobs commenting on this. The guy clearly loves watches, can afford to buy the ones he likes, and at least knows the name of everyone of them. He's not claiming to be some big time horologist. He's simply enjoying what he can afford, and good luck to him!
23macca23 it's a bit of a pity to admire the outside of a high end watch without appreciating what goes on on the inside though. I have no qualms that he bought these watches - he clearly enjoys certain brands and a certain look (which I personally find garish across the board), the point is that he gives no indication of appreciating the pieces other than at face value. With that being said, and with due regard to the price that comes attached to these pieces, is what I believe most people take umbrage towards.
PartiZAn18 Most people love the shape and style, of a particular car. But most of us know little of the components of the engine. We just about know where the petrol goes! As I said, Snobbery (possible racism?). The guys made a load of money, and bought things he likes. Good luck to him.
Not everyone is going to be an expert on timepieces. While Rolex is the go to watch for those who can afford a high end piece for the first time, it doesn't change the fact that it is one of the best watch makers period. Most serious collectors have them, along with Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, IWC, etc.
It just goes to show, if you make it in show business, it's insane money. The problem, is one out of millions don't make it and give up a large part of their life trying. I know several people like this and now in their 50s are driving ubers and waiting tables. Not that there is nothing wrong with an honest living, but for one Kevin Hart there are millions who never even get to make a small living as a working actor. It's a tough, tough business.
Just to clear it up, there are people who like watched because they look nice, and those who like the horology and all that shit. Kevin has a passion for the watches for its look not the horology and that stuff
If you want to see a celebrity watch collector who really knows something about his timepieces: Search "Talking watches with John Mayer". No hate for Kevin though...
i would never have that many rolex watches, but this is very wise. if he every fell on hard times. he can sell his entire collection and he will be set for at least 10-15 years. very wise investments
To all of the people that believe he understands the true value of horology just because he knows the names of the watches he owns, please refrain from commentary until you do more research into luxury timepieces.
+bighands69 Didn't comment on the quality of which Rolex produces watches designed for diving purposes. My comment simply stated that many people who watch this video think Kevin Hart has a true understanding of the hprological significance behind each piece.
The video is NOT about his knowledge of horology. It's about his collection. And you don't know his knowledge of watches just by watching this video. Don't be so self righteous. He's done what people do when they get rich...BUY EXPENSIVE THINGS.
I still don't get the Richard Mille. It's like back in the day when everybody went to Jacob the Jeweler to get their bling on :)) I get the Rolexes though
Richard Mills is a bubble, when the bubble pops whoever is left holding their watches will be robbed of their equity! I’m talking $30,000 and under with no buyers in site in less than 10 years. Too trendy for my taste.
Everyone is hating but I don't think its Kevin's fault that this video is so tacky. Its the music and the editing. An honest conversation about his collection and the milestones that marked each watch, no matter how blingy, would be as interesting as any John Mayer interview.
The main reason I fucked with kev is because as a fan of rap music and fine watches it's almost a catch 22 if you like real watches and the details. So to see this guy when he came up stepping up his game piece by piece, I noticed !!! Ive yet to get my ap skeleton but I've got my IWC game on Rolex on fleek
Who are you to say he's not a serious watch collector it's all about his taste just because you like something doesn't mean he has to... so keep your opinions to yourself and get your bag up
If I have the money, all I want is Omega Planet Ocean 600 and maybe a Breguet and a Patek and A Lange & Sohne and Kari Voutilainen and Philippe Dufour and Roger W. Smith ...
I'd definitely personally have more Pateks. I wouldn't buy a watch with diamonds because you pay such a premium on them and they drop so much in value. You are basically paying for the diamonds and not the mechanics of the watch. Gold or platinum is a plus though!
Buying a factory diamond Rolex does not drop the value in the watch, while adding permanent after market diamonds to a watch can. If you add a diamond bezel to a watch and keep the original you'll be ok but, having diamonds set into an original case or bracelet may decrease the value significantly.
if I was rich I'd think I was a food critic and a car expert. relax guys let the guy be passionate. Passion and expertise are not the same thing. Hes an entertainment genius, everything else is just a hobbie
Nice Rolex collection. But personally if i was going to only collect Rolexes, I would have a lot of vintages pieces from back in the day. The first movements are completely different from the modern ones, but also the vintage models have a little more character to the original design then the modern watches do. However.... To each there own.
Why do people think that rich people can't be watch connoisseurs? You can have a real passion for watches even though you're rich as fuck. You don't have to be a broke person, saving up to buy vintage watches, to be passionate about watches. I think he have some crazy watches. There's many of them that I would never want to buy, but his steel Patek and four, maybe five, of his Rolexes, I definitely wouldn't have a problem owning.
Ha! I would think the opposite. Since it seems like a big waste of money to me. I understand it. I like watches. But you know what else I like? World peace.
Seriously...why all the hate? We do live in America, right? Since when isn't a man allowed to "like what he likes"? Also, why does a watch collector have to have a passion for horology? I personally own a couple of Rolex's, a few AP's and a couple of RM's...I worked hard and have every right to spend my $$ any way I choose! Do I need to go to Switzerland and watch them make my watch...WOW!
People on here hating hard on Kevin watch collection just mad they can not even afford one watch that he has. He has a awesome watch collection keep collecting Kevin you have something that you can pass down to your children.
Rolex are very well made, built proof and they look fantastic as well. A rolex dress watch such as a President could be take scuba diving that is how versatile they are.
