Alex - I had the same experience when I discovered Tame! I think he covered the song really well but doesn’t sound a ton like John here. However, on his studio LPs Innerspeaker and some of Lonerism, he sounds VERY much like John Lennon. Sean Lennon has gone on record saying so as well
Me too! I was flipping thru the channels one night and ran across later with Jools Holland, right when Tame Impala did Feels Like We only Go Backwards - I was mesmerized. Thought I was listening to John Lennon! That was 2012 and I've been a hardcore tame impala fan ever since. Kevin Parker never disappoints . He totally satisfies my Beatles fix. Love him.
Ooooh gosh, I mean I love Kevin Parker but that's a massive one to take on. Expectation would be fever pitch. Near impossible to meet it. A day in the life the greatest song of all time.
to be honest, I never really understood when all the people were comparing Kevin's voice to John Lennon's on Innerspeaker and Lonerism, but now it's painfully obvious !
Alter Ego makes me think of John the most. I can't believe how similar his voice is!! It's uncanny, like if John was born again in Australia and pursued a solo electronic-psychedelic music career lmao
You know that stupid Liam Gallagher thinks he sounds like John Lennon but he doesn't have any of those beautifull nuances that John had but Kevin Parker of Tame Impala has the Lennon feel on every song he sings!!!
Just goes to show how talented Kevin is. Even though he mixes his vocals with effects, its just to make a distinct sound, not to improve upon his voice. This vid shows that without the effects his voice is pitch perfect, WITHOUT Auto-tune! But hey, he comes from Perth, the best place on Earth!
Gonna let you in on a secret: almost every singer in popular music uses autotune to some degree, even if they’re naturally talented. The only exceptions are maybe like extremely lofi or punk artists.
@@scottishcheese13 KInda came out wrong, what I meant is that he uses a heap of effects but its a sound he created to go with his style of music. Unlike a lot of mainstream pop artists who use autotune to hide the imperfections in their voice. Actually, I should be pointing the finger at the record companies, who just want somebody pretty, regardless of talent, autotune can fix the latter lol
I heard one of his songs in a movie and thought it was John Lennon... I was so shocked there was a Lennon song I didn't know about, so I googled it and found out about this guy. Now I'm not shocked because of the unknown Lennon song but because there is someone with the exact same voice as John. Amazing.
Same here. I first heard Tame Impala on a commercial, it was Elephant and I instantly thought “That’s John!” Another crazy thing is, on Desire Be Desire Go, he harmonizes with himself near the end of the song and he sounds like John and Paul harmonizing together!!!
On Elephant he sounds like John on Strawberry Fields. Just switching back and fourth on those two songs sounds extremely similar, to the point where it almost sounds as if it could have been recorded for the same album.
My heart! I heard this song growing up my mom loved it. I lost her ten years ago. I'm so nuts about Kevin Parker and to hear his angel voice singing this song.... It's divine. So much painful beauty in life.
This is the best version of this cover I have seen. Beautiful.. You played it and sang it perfectly. This is my favorite John Lennon song besides Imagine.
Fun Fact... Kevin actually got a Xray of his vocal chords and matched them up with John Lennon's and there almost Identical, That's why he sounds like Lennon.
Ever since i heard Tame Impala in first time, i noticed how similar to Lennon was his voice. Always when i'm suggesting Tame for a friend that doesn't know them, i say "sounds like John Lennon has brought back to life and learn how to use new techno/digital instrumental/high music production technique and stuff". But now i'm shocked, because i thought the voice was digitaly mixed with auto tune or something to look like John's voice. He does it, all natural, rawly, too, almost sobrenatural.
