The internet was set on fire when so called Dating Coach Kevin Samuels told a woman that called in that she looks average at best. Samuels then went on to give this woman some very harsh criticism that she took on the chin. In fairness, much of what Samuels was saying had a lot of truth to it, but his delivery was questionable.
The entire ordeal made for a lot of great conversation centered around dating, unrealistic expectations, and people dating out of their league. While in Atlanta, I thought it best that I solicit the help of dating & love guru, Stacii Jae Johnson. Let's talk about it...

I was just about to say the same thing. The black community is the only ones that think this way. I lived in rural America for five years and you know that’s the home to wealthy contractors, oil and gas, oil refineries the list goes on and their women aren’t slim, aren’t fashionistas, and they would be considered average.

My husband showed me his character. When we met, we both lost everything about the same time. This man did uber, gave blood, etc to ensure that we were able to eat. His character proved that he is a man and he loved me. Now 5 years later, he is now in upper management with Verizon .

Wealthy men marry women who are educated and more than likely wealthy or well to do. They don’t go for looks alone, especially not overly vain women. That’s looked down upon in upper class circles. Its more very wealthy men with regular but well kempt women than model looking chicks. 100k a year is great but it’s not “out of anyone’s league.” 100k a year is a customer service dept manager, a district manager, a school principle, a nurse practitioner, an engineer, a tech guy, a guy that owns his own auto body shop, a real estate agent, an entrepreneur such as herself. I live in the DMV-Washington, DC, the salaries are high here for Blue Collar Jobs; Bus Drivers, Maintenance Engineers, Security Officers, Electricians and Construction Workers. It all depends. In Washington, DC the Minimum Wage is a living wage. When my daughter got out of High School, she was making more money at Trader Joe's than people that was older than her. -Md. and Va. do not pay as much as DC. In any case, it's all about the Zip Code. -Arlington County Government, Va. has a lot of job openings. -Most of their jobs start at 65K and up. This is also for Porters and Laborers. It all depends on where you live and the cost of living. 🤷

If people want to only date within their own race, gender, social circle, profession or religion, not only is it their prerogative, they are reasonable and logical desires. I’m probably considered a solid 7 physically in the face I think I’m a 10 BUT When I look at the total package of beauty to me (mind, body and soul) I’m beyond a 10 baby! We need to stop perpetuating the narrative that the Shemar Moores of the world would never want a Gabourey Sidibe. While it's less common, yes, it's not far-fetched. If you yourself see couples that don't make sense to you, who are you to then go and tell someone else to lower or completely change their standards? A coach is able to learn someone else's plays, right? So, there's more value in finding out how those couples found each other, how they attracted each other, how they kept each other, and passing that on to clients instead of saying, "Lose weight if you want a fit man to want you."

And this dude has MONEY. It's crazy because you guys base life on celebrities and not real life. Just because you have money does not mean you can grab any hot chick you want unless they're desperate enough to use what they can and leave. Every wealthy guy isn't lucky in the dating department, nor do all of them look good enough to decline anyone that comes their way.

Let’s be real if this lady was lightskin or another race with these same features this would not even be a conversation. This lady is gorgeous. Black women never settle for less that’s what they want us to do.
