@@firstlylasty8687 Right on the back, word for word "I certainly would never read anything written by Kevin Smith" - bottom of the list, with Neil Gaimans tweet "I suspect @ThatKevinSmith is what all gods and demons aspire to be"
Ha so true The best comment I read in a review about his Alice in Wonderland movie was "The only person who is glad this movie got made is the manager at Hot Topic."
If Burton really lifted it, it wouldn’t be the first credible accusation of theft by him-after _Mars Attacks!_ came out on video, Howard Stern stated on-air that during the first week he was on the air at WNBC in 1982, he and coworker Fred Norris had created and aired a segment entitled "Slim Whitman versus the Midget Aliens from Mars", which Stern proceeded to re-broadcast as proof. The segment depicted Slim Whitman's singing used as a weapon against invading aliens, and the planet becomes a wasteland. Stern confronted Burton on the air about it a couple years later, and Burton responded, “Oh, wow! You should have sued me.”
@@WatcherOfHorror this is from the days of Smith when he still had artistic integrity and cared about source material vs now where he’s just some average Hollywood stooge. He-Man is a perfect example. He’s a clown.
However, Nolan's Batman never detonated a chemical plant full of goons, dropped someone down s bell tower, roasted someone alive, and shoved dynamite down their pants. So when say Nolan's Batman doesn't kill they mean he's not a fucking maniac like Burton's Batman.
After recently watching the Burton batman movies for the first time in a while I honestly did not realise how many people he actually straight up murdered, not only did he strap the dynamite to that goon but he did it with a fucking smile on his face 🤣I still love those movies but Keaton's batman was a straight up menace
Kevin is a guy who does nothing but talk shit about people, yet he gets outraged by anyone that dishes it out back to him. Not only that, he seems surprised when it happens.
You know, you have a point! I've never noticed it before but almost all of his more recent films are based off of old plays or books or stories! Thanks Emideus!
not only that, but you cannot walk in a mall, walk by a hot topic, take a quick glance towards it (dont stare to long, effects vary), and not see merchandise that is not from a tim burton film
Shared this with my [much older] parents, who endured Tim Burton films with me in theaters during my childhood back in the 80s and 90s… (spoiler: they’re not fans) 🤣
What's up with the "Burton said he never reads comics and that explains Batman" and everybody applauding ... Yes it's his opinion if he thought the 89 Batman wasn't good and that's fine but EVERYONE applauding like's it's a common opinion makes them sound like a bunch of ass kissers. I bet most of them didn't even really know why they were applauding and thought "I didn't know Batman89 sucked but if Keven said it and everyone else here agrees it must be true! *clap, clap*.
cleetose yes your right, and I caught that not long after posting this comment, but it really only serves to make his comment about Burton not reading comics explaining Batman89, as if there was something wrong with it, even odder
Kronic Shade Well, granted, they are fans, and fans can be a little obsequious. Also, given that they're here to listen to Kevin Smith talk, they probably like his movies, like him, and might share several viewpoints. Just a thought.
Well at least Kevin Smith made movies because he had a passion for them. All Tim Burton does is take an existing property then gives it the gothic look he has in all his movies and puts it in the theater. He hasn't made a unique film like the ones that started his career in over a decade Tim Burton movies are more Products than films.
Years later after seeing this, and I still don't know how Kev thought that saying "I'm pissed off and am contemplating legal action" would come off as a joke in a written statement for the press
By the way, the ending of Planet of the Apes actually comes from the original novel from 1955. Doesn't make it any less stupid and non-sensical, but it has an legitimate origin.
Yeah I was thinking that / it’s a funny story but sorry to say Kev the ending is from the book although the original film ending was obviously much better
Yes, the Nolan Batman did kill. He did kill Harvey. However, if people had paid attention to TDK at all, they'd remember during the interrigation scene, the Joker tells Batman killing is making a choice. You choose one life or the other. And thats what Batman did. He chose to save Gordon's son because there was no saving Harvey. So yes, in that sense, Nolan's Batman does kill.
Far too much time has passed now, but imagine if someone had done a skit about this, spoofing the bath fight scene in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, with Tim instead of Pee Wee and Kevin instead of fat Francis. "I'm Tim Burton and I'm here to see Kevin Smith" "He's taking a bath" "OH REALLY, WHERE ARE THEY HOSING HIM DOWN?"
I like Kevin Smith as a person but I am not really a fan of his movies. But that's just me. I don't watch them, but he is a great guy and a great story teller in person.
Most of Kevin Smith's films are as much "products" as Tim Burton's. Let's get real. Kevin Smith doesn't shy away from commerciality. And why should he? He's not trying to make high-brow arthouse movies.
I laughed my ass off this, even tho i fucking love tim burton (i even have the voodoo girl's heart tattooed so...). kevin smith is fucking amazing, love him too.
Read my comment again. I said " In over a decade" Scissorhands- 1990 Nightmare- 1993 Corpse Bride- based upon Jewish folklore with a similar plot found in the "Shivkhey HoAri" Frankenweenie- Originally a short made in 1984 by Tim (fun fact this actually got him fired from Disney for being too creepy) now being remade into a feature film. So not only is it something he made when he was being very unique It's a preexisting property that he is remaking and giving a gothic makeover.
If she ever. does, she better keep her original name. There is just something inherently priceless about it. "Sorry, mate. He came through here in such sorry condition. We had to commit him to the bumble ward.
You can see why Kevin had a mental breakdown. This kind of hostility is not good. The schlub who seethes insecurity. It finally caught up with him and I feel bad because he seems like a nice guy.
nick pezzolo I have more interesting and varied taste. Im not realy into bland commercial superhero cobblers. there has to be more to it than stupid voices, CGI and trying so hard to be 'adult'. burtons ones were gothic, strange and kinda kinky and they didnt forget that batman is a comic not some boring novel
i still think it should be legal to knock people out .if you can prove in a court with a jury they have it coming.cuz tim and many others are cruisin for a long awaited moment of k.o time
And as far as him "Not saving someone, such as Ras Al Ghul, the same could be said for when Batman spins the Batmobile and catches the fire spitter on fire. The fire spitter had ample opportunity to get the fuck out of the way.
Basically, Take old movie posters/book covers etc and put a gothic instagram filter over it. Oh and photoshop Johnny Depp into it. BOOM! You've got a Tim Burton movie poster! Join me next time where I show you how to use Johnny Depp and a few After Effects effects to create a multi-million dollar movie!
Well yes all movies are products but what I meant by that is that usually there is someone who has a sort of vision or wants to have a message in the movie or just plain thinks he/she has a cool story they have to tell and recently Burton's movies just feel a little soulless like he just there to lend his brand to a movie and cash the check.
I went to one of Kevin's talks around this time.. and looking back at how much of a fanboy I was and how much I respected him it's surreal to me how sick current Kevin Smith makes me. I'm not very political so I'm not exactly sure what happened to him to turn him from that version of himself to the current version now. Because it's not age.. Kevin was a grown assed adult then and now, so my only guess is he wanted woke Hollywood to accept him more so he changed everything that made him down to earth, relatable. and fun loving.
Damn, a lot of people in the comments missed a lot of the points in this video. Let me spell it out for you. Smith didn't say anything about being mad at Burton. He seemed surprised that Burton got so pissed and made things so personal, but that's all the feelings he expressed toward Burton. If Smith got mad at anyone, it was the guy who wrote the article. According to this story, the initial conversation was humorous, but the writer changed it into more of a serious thing once Burton responded.
+Pale Horse Understood, but then Smith was trolling. Probably Tim Burton has a fragile ego and, being that he wasn't in on the joke (he probably read the article at face value), got upset. I like Kevin Smith, but not too much xD he comes off to me like the arbiter of nerd kingdom.
I had no idea Tim Burton didn't read a comic book before making Batman 1989....Explains why Batman killed dude's.....Also reminds me of Znyder with the killing Batman but at least with Znyder he admits to only reading certain comic's,but still😕
Who’s to say that Tim Burton was entirely serious with his comments? How does he know there wasn’t a teehee in his conversation with his publicist too?
he's not physically batman? Christian Bale is a pretty small guy if you have ever seen him and batman is a huge fucking guy like 6'1" and yes batman did kill in the early comics. He would blow someone's fucking head off if they broke the law. and I will agree with you on the Jack Nicholson thing. and to bring up one of the Critics points. The reason Keaton is so perfect in the role is because you wouldn't suspect him to be Batman. In fact they had a petition to not have Keaton in the role.
Hm. If by pile of shit you mean that you're not a fan of gothic beauty in film... nor superb performances... stellar music... or fantastic costume design? I guess that says something. ;)
in fact lets stop this here because I am not gonna be able to convince you how Keaton was perfect for the role and you'll never be able to convince me how Keaton wasn't a good Batman
Burton's early work is great but that was 30 years ago. Tim Burton - he's lost. Hasn't made a good film in 15 yrs - and - from what Cal Arts Burton's alma mater says about him - he's paranoid - is anyone surprised here?
Errrrrrr no......if you're such a Kevin Smith fan I assume you'd have heard/read about his long harangue of FILM CRITICS (not TIM BURTON!). No need to start throwing around insults because you happen to dislike what I wrote.....and Kevin Smith said himself in this video that he dresses terribly. And no I'm not gay or female....but you, sir, are a homophobe! The idea that only women or gay people care about clothing and dressing nice is a bit backward, don't you think?!?!
+iMaDeMoN2012 chasing amy and clerks are great too. l I love Tim Burton but you could argue that his movies are emo crap - it's all perspective. and planet of the apes sucked ass.
please I know this has nothing to do with our current discussion, but if you want to see a few reasons I think Batman is better than the Dark Knight watch the Nostalgia Critics Old Vs New Batman Vs The Dark Knight. From a professional stand point, watching and comtemplating the movie in a whole Keaton is the better Batman. Ledger is the better Joker I'll give you that. Batman has the better story, at least to me. Just watch the video and you'll see what I mean
