I've been using a low profile mechanical keyboard for at least a year now. I will NEVER go back to a full size mechanical keyboard. I can't even understand why people still use them. They were designed for those big ol' clunky keyboards from the 1980s. They are a fantastic way to develop all sorts of wrist problems.
Just got suggested this after researching a lot on mechanical keyboards and loved your video! I have a full size Magic Keyboard and some keys are getting a little sticky. Been looking into upgrading anyway. Been looking at the K5 SE, V5, and Q5. This convinced me to get the K5 SE since the low profile Keychrons are a nice segue between the flat Magic Keyboard and full height mechanicals. Great content!
I got the K7 last year because I wanted a super-compact wireless keyboard to connect to my SmartTV as well as for travelling (I also got the travel case to protect it). It worked great in those applications, but NOT as a keyboard for gaming or office productivity. The lack of dedicated Function keys was too much. However, I enjoyed the low-profile Optical Red switches, which I chose because they were the quietest and I didn’t want to disturb my fiancé on the plane with my typing. Normally, I would’ve chosen Brown switches for better feedback. I really like the K7 and the Keychron brand, which is why I recently got a pair of K4’s, which I like even more! For the right applications, the K7 is ideal. But the K7 would not be my “daily driver” keyboard.
@@roelfo I pledged for the K7 Kickstarter and when I received it, I tried it out for various purposes. It was fine for most games, but for games that heavily use both the Number row AND F keys, like Star Citizen, the K7 wasn’t suitable. Instead I use it for typing on my SmartTV, Fire Stick, game consoles, and iPad. I really liked Keychron keyboards so I bought a K4 for my flight sim rig’s vertical mount. The K4 is more compact than my Corsair K70 M2 so it fits between my dual flight sticks, and it has a Numpad unlike my Razer Huntsman Tournament. Also, the K4’s Brown switches have just the right feel and feedback, whereas my Corsair’s optical switches are ideal for typing but their activation is too light for vertical typing. And the Razer’s switches are too loud and loose. I actually had to buy a second K4 because when my fiancé tried it, she took it to replace her Apple Magic Keyboard. Happy wife, happy life! 😉
I have the royal kludge rk100 and I love it so much, it has white/clear gateron switches, which I can literally breath on and they actuate, I can’t get enough of it. But I wanna try keychron
First time on your channel. Enjoyed watching. Thanks for measuring the keyboard. Hope to buy one soon. Questions: 1) Why does it have an orange key on the upper left? Can you replace it with the same color as the other keys. 2) Can you use this keyboard with a Windows Laptop & iPhone at the same time without switching the button at the back of the keyboard? I'm new with mechanical keyboards. Thanks. I'm a new subscriber. God bless.
They just like orange escape keys I suppose, but I'm 80% positive it DOES come with a grey alternative (only 80% sure). And yes, I believe you can pair with up to 3 devices and switch between them quite easily!
omg no more red switches.. I checked your link 😢 hopefully they stock red switches soon.. thanks again for this awesome review. Will always support you 🥰
haha argh. I'm not even sure they're in "normal" production yet, so maybe that's why? I'm sure they'll have more at some point. (though technically you could get hte hotswappable version and find some low-profile reds to put in there?)
Hey there. Nice review. I’m about to get the k7 and review it. I did K3 already. You say you can change the keycaps, but try replacing the shift key or any with the stabilizers, if you want to cry…
new sub! you reckon it's also for casual gaming? Not really a heavy gamer anymore since I am now more focused on work, but from time to time I love a good quick game but dont want to buy a "gaming keyboard." sort of a hybrid machine of sorts is better for me and I am keen on this but not sure
eh. It's ok for that. I'm also a casual gamer (just an hour or two a week, really), but I something a bit more substantial. (I'd argue ALL of the low-profile keyboards I've tried are less substantial). But honestly, you'd still probably enjoy it ;)
I was in the market for a new 65% keyboard. Ideally PC gaming and Mac - one keyboard to rule them all! I went for Black Widow Mini v3 with Green Switches (swapped the Win modifiers to Mac). But in the end the Razor keboard leans more to gaming than productivity, pretty poor battery life, can't see the key caps with no lighting. In the end I bought a MX Keys Mini Mac edtion. Mx Keys is surprisingly nice to type on (membrane, sissor switch). I chose MX Keys over KeyChron as I felt it might be more reliable day to day. I like the MX Keys mini typing experience and decent battery life. Mx Keys Mini is the keyboard Apple should have made! I won't rule out K7 in the future but for now I have two decent wireless keyboards
I feel that. The bottom line is "do what works for YOU." Well done :) Side Note: I recently picked up the Royal Kludge RK84 (and did a review RU-vid video by the way), and O.M.G. the battery last 3x longer than any of the Keychrons I've used. It's crazy. I used it 8 hours a day like clockwork, and rarely have to charge it lol. Worth looking into should you ever wanna try it. Great for Mac as well.
Advertised as "wireless". Actually Bluetooth. Connected to my system with supplied (too short) USB cable. Multiple keys do not work. The product is sold "as is" - there is no warranty. Tried to get an RMA number and a return shipping label. Keychron demands a video proving that the keyboard does not work. If the keys do NOT work, the feel DOES NOT MATTER, and the reliability DOES NOT MATTER!
