Have you tried the ZSA Voyager? Your videos are very insightful. Thank you!

Yep! That will also totally make an appearance here.

Is the "timing" issue only if you mod the keyboard? If I get this keyboard to just have a "great" quality split keyboard that I have no plans on modifying, will I be happy? Does it have a "timing" issue if you don't want to customize? Thank you.

For homerow mods I have found it an issue and would recommend the NocFree lite over this board. Also because it is cheaper. That said, the board itself was not bad. If you like keychron but just want something split this will do the trick, albeit with limited software configurations possible.

@@calmcode-io Thank you for replying! The NocFree lite is a 60%, and this one is 75%, correct? I'm worried about the smaller keys for my larger hands and am looking for something as close to full size as possible. I've not owned a split board (2 pieces) before - only unibody ergos but want to upgrade and not pay $500. It look like after configuring the NocFree lite to "match" the q11 in terms of keycaps and rgb they're roughly the same price.

@@skullAndRoses321 with the NocFree you would also get the palmrests and carrycase for a good price, and I strongly recommend the palmrest. The keychron also does not tilt. But yeah, the nocfree is indeed a bit smaller. If you want to do more ergo stuff tho, one might argue that is a good thing. Bigger boards imply more movement after all.

You’re not the first to suggest the tool, but does that tool allow you to set the timing? Vial was not used in the marketing of the board, VIA was. Got a guide/link?

Would a standard sized A5 notepad fit in between the two keyboard halves?
@calmcode-io

Probably? May need to buy a bigger cable if not. Specs should be on their site.

Webpage says that keyboard supports qmk firmware. It is more powerful than VIA. Way more features. In the qmk keyboards I have, the timing thing is just a variable called TAPPING_TERM. Set it to the value you are comfortable. qmk is not as user-friendly as via, though.
@calmcode-io
@calmcode-io 27 дней назад
Yeah, thats possible. But keychron barely provides any documentation on how to set up QMK properly so I would not want to give them a lot of bonus points for that feature.

Hi ! would you recommend a split keyboard for office use? I wanted to have more comfort when touch-typing. Cheers!
@calmcode-io
@calmcode-io Месяц назад
Yes, but you may want to consider one with a good carrying case. This particular keyboard is very bulky and something like the NocFree/UHKv2/Dygma Raise might fit your needs better. These keyboards are all split but still most similar to a conventional keyboard.

My NocFree review should be up tomorrow I think by the way.

Hey, thanks to god that i found this video. Me is like from apple keyboard(>10yrs) to q11 to nuphy and now seeking another one. I can feel you 1000000%! Q11 and nuphy are good, but just not perfect fit to my habit. I tried for about 2 months and finally failed to get use to it... Now i wondering if low profile version of corne or sofie would work. And happy to listen to your comment. Thx bro

Its hard to say I am afraid. I guess I've never tried corne or sofle because I always wanted to be able to get proper company support. But the stuff I see on Reddit do make it very tempting to check out. Be sure to check ebay for deals. A voyager may be appropriate for you and that board also comes with amazing software.

so glad I found this review. Definetly not buying the Q11 now. Ill wait until they create a low-profile split.

Their K11 board (see the next video) might be a fair deal in the meantime. It is not split, but it does give your thumbs 4 buttons in total, which is plenty for most coders.

Staggered split is defective by design, sadly. Staggered layout requires fingers to constantly move sideways, and this sideways movement depends on correct sideways position of both halves. When you have a split keyboard, the position of two parts constantly changes and so you can't reliably have the same position of keys. Also, if you place the halves straight in front of your shoulders, your pinkies won't be able to reach the keys as easily If you want real a split and not just rotated/ergo board, there's no point in not going ortho as well, preferably with keywells if your pinkies aren't too long And because your hands can only reach their own parts, you need more thumb buttons to compensate for inability to do one hand operation of the entire keyboard, otherwise you lose functionality when it comes to productively using keyboard and mouse at the same time And the numpad layer on a staggered layout is just disgusting. While again, you can't do a one handed number entry like you could with the normal keyboard
