Back when fencing was a thing, they had similar debates between sword styles. Rapier was the clear winner in one-on-one duels but sucked at close quarters and group combat. Short sword (Silver's Cut and Thrust) was excellent in melee but wouldn't give you an advantage on a horse or in a duel. Saber was the best for horseback but struggled against pike or rapier. So you'd have infantry men saying, Short Sword is the best, then Duelist would say that rapier's the best, and Hussars saying saber is the best, and they were all right.

Its not fake. If it were pure submissions matches and not point based, the jiu jitsu guys would have stood a better chance. Everyone was aware of the point system involved, and wrestlers are better versed at gassing out opponents while applying insane pressure. They did yhe equivalent of "every punch a jiu jitsu guy takes, he loses a belt". Only this time its "the more tired a jiu jitsu guy gets, the more belts he loses". Get em tired and outwrastle em. Infact, i believe the jiu jitsu guys were fully aware of this, and is why they went for submissions as early as some of em did

Just because it's team Khabib and undefeated in local MMA promotions don't mean jack, Shihshabekov for example got clowned on by a much smaller guy named Kiril Horobets recently in a pankration tournament, and Horobets is fighting at featherweight in One Championship with a 1-2 losing record.

I would like to point out that if this were an Mma bout Khabibs team would've done much better. They don't train purely for grappling like some of the other teams so they aren't really even in their element especially since they would not have gotten heel hooked if they were allowed to punch the other guy in the face

There is a reason you’ll never see Khabib compete in ADCC. His constant shit talking about BJJ won’t allow him to take any chances. It’s the same reason he left mma so early and never moved up to face a fighter in another weight class like so many other legends have done.

I think this is more a case of styles make fights.

Submission grappling is nogi bjj. No one but bjj players train this rules set. They will always win these matches against other styles.

It's not that the leg lock or bottom half guard "game is underdeveloped" in mma ,it's just it's a completely useless 'game' when striking is incorporated

Rarely do generalists that focus on mutiple aspects of fighting like Khabib and his team beat specialists like ADCC athletes (who specialize in grappling only) in a scenario like this. Khabib and his teams style of grappling is centered around mma which involves strikes ,and the dynamics begin to change once strikes are taken out of the equation.

Still none of these guys would be able to do what khabib's team did in mma (islam ufc champ, usman bellator champ, umar potentially the favorite to be champ in the next 2 years) And i say more, no adcc champ would grapple dominate like khabib or islam did, if gordon ryan or craig jones goes to mma they would barely be able to takedown ufc fighters, just look at burns, davi ramos, dolidze etc.

UF vs ADCC was so painful to watch, especially that last decision - that was straight-up bull. I am both biased and salty, yes, but it boggles my mind how A. submissions attempts count for so little in a friggin BJJ event, and B. how the hell the judges gave the last match to the last guy and not to Andrey. Andrey was the only one on Modolfo who could handle the dagestani wrestling for extended periods of time (all of Modolfo knew it, obviously, so they even went for immediate guard pulls and lookings for subs, regardless of penalty points), he was by far the most entertaining to watch, AND he had the guy in a triangle for half a round, which the UF dude solved by DRIVING HIM OFF THE STAGE whenever the triangle got tight. UF played as dirty as they could, btw, and the refs were so inert it was embarrassing. Andrey was hanging off the stage for a whole minute and telling them tomreset, which they finally did... with 23 seconds on the clock. Fun event, but they have so much bull to clean up
