I'm an Indian and ashamed that a handmade paper that is so readily made in India by many many manufacturers should be selling at these mad over the top prices! Worst of all the company does not sell to the local market!! Their website lists everything only in pounds. Handmade pure cotton papers is very easily available in India for a FRACTION of these prices. This is not cold press but just handmade.
omg! you read my mind. i ordered some khadi loose sheets(out of curiosity) and compared it to the handmade 100% cotton paper i get from amazon, and there's no difference AT ALL except that khadi is selling it at such a high price!
@@letym2271 What? We find this inexpensive in the U.S. when we can pay up to 100 for Arches 20sheet cold pressed 100% cotton blocks. A little less for a pad.
@@dalcheeniI’ve wondered about this! I have a beautiful leather sketchbook, made in India with cotton paper, and it looks very similar to this paper. I’ve not tried painting on it yet though.
OMG 😱🥹. The video I miss is the one you mention me in it 😭. I feel so bad now that I was tired and asleep 😢. But OMG! you mentioned MrsB and I 🥹. You mentioned us by name! Thanks so, so much! 😊
I knew it was the fat book! I love it, but it feels surprisingly different from their regular sketchbooks, while surface looks very similar. It makes me paint even more loose and lazy 😅
@@PaintinHiding I'm okay, thank you. My life's still a chaotic mess, but it has its good moments, like opening up one of your videos and drinking in all the information and art - the best vitamins in the world!
Hi Vee! Thanks so much for a great review! I have one of their smaller sketchbooks, and love the paper, so I know I will love this. Hopefully your prediction comes true and a sale is coming! ♥️💐♥️
fingers crossed! but it might go out of stock again before the sale so just keep that in mind ;P nowadays i just buy as i want/need. whenever i want to get something during a sale, it's always out of stock LOL
Thank you! I didn't know about this brand (I'm in the US) and can't wait to try it. It seems wonderful to just use and not worry and still get a good result and I love that it is flexible.
Trying to find it somewhere other than Jackson's. I'm not buying anything from them since they stopped selling Royal Talens to the USA. Looks like a great book. Perfect for practice.
I haven't found a U.S. or Canadian supplier of the fat book, but there are other suppliers in the UK (searchable by company name): Handprinted, £12.30 Paperstory, £12.80 Pegasus Art, £12.82 Heaton Cooper Studio, £13.50 Cass Art, £14.95 Amazon UK (yes, they deliver to the U.S.), £19.99 Shipping varies by supplier and, of course, by choice of speed and delivery company. Price comparison, when Jackson's has the fat book, it's £14.66, except as Vee noted in the video, during the paper sales.
They have unfortunately stopped selling many brands to the US and their prices are so high now that it's cheaper to just buy at Blicks or Jerry's, even for the Euro brands. It makes me sad.
looks like susana found you some options to get the fatbook already :) as for royal talens.... i can see that it's not on Jackson's USA site anymore, however, i think u can still order them. just go to their UK site and put the royal talens products you want in your basket. i'm not seeing any pop up that tells you to take it out. there also isn't any note under royal talens products that i can see that says they don't sell to USA anymore.

*i've assembled/crafted my own small sketch books in the using simulated parchment paper...i'll scorch or burn the edges to make it look truly ancient or artistically tatty...it's not just about the visual appearance that's important to me, it's the tactile nature of the entire book is is part of the process and journey in discovering what might be contained within the pages themselves* *and recently i did something like this for a small 8X8 spiral bound sketch book for a coworkers son who likes to draw and is very good at it...the process took about a week for me to assemble all of the supplies and materials locally but the results were amazing and my friend at work and his son were blown away by what i managed to do for them*
@@PaintinHiding *kinda depends on the overall effect and the materials you might be using...any given book can take weeks or even months to assemble as i take my time in collecting the materials and the texturing involved ...i view the process as an integral part of what eventually fills the sketchbook itself and adds another layer of my personality and i also find it a lot of fun*
Thanks for doing this review - I'm excited to get ahold of one! Seems like it strikes a balance between inviting to work in but not too precious to use. When a book has just a few pages of paper, regardless of the quality, I find it **very** intimidating to use so a fat book would be a good friend for me 🤣 I'm glad to hear you've had no pilling - that was an issue in my other Khadi sketchbook so I mostly used it for playing around and color testing (once I finally started using it of course, ha!)
Thank you, thank you. "Not too precious to use" ... I feel that way about all my sketchbooks, no matter the cost. Or else I'm just wasting money. 😊 It's a sketchbook. A blank sketchbook is the only horrific sketchbook, imho. Now, I really appreciate you showing how mediums other than watercolor work with the Khadi paper. That's rare. I love Khadi paper and would really like to give the Fat Book a go but wanted to see how that 100gsm works first. Thanks again for the information 👍
no no, ur reading it in american way which is month day year. their dates are written out in UK date format which is day month year. so it's due 4th of august. not april 8th. hope that helps. that said, sometimes it could be earlier or later than the date shown as it's just an estimate.
I love your channel. I became a Khadi paper fan. I appreciate your honest review. You mentioned that Khadi paper can be a love hate relationship. I had to try it. I do not paint on this paper, I play on this paper. I have the log book as well as the fat book and just love both of them for different reason. I feel free to paint and paint and try new brush strokes and different subject and have fun. Thank you. I hope, like someone mentioned, that Khadi makes you their spoke person.
thank you for your kind words christine :) i'm glad you like khadi paper as well, no matter how you use it. and haha yeah, i doubt khadi even knows i exist
That's a lovely video, you're a natural ambassador for Khadi products, each time i want to grab one. You really makes those colors shines on that paper. That's a real treat to be able to peack in your sketcbook. Thanks you Vee. 💚
Seems like most of the art supplies that are really “the best” aren’t the precious ones but rather the most used ones. Sometimes certain “precious” art supplies happen to be in the most used category but having an amazing quality art supply that is never used is a sad reality for those who have invested in them. “The best” art supplies really are the ones you use the most, regardless of what another artist may deem “the best”. Whatever you use the most is the best investment whether it’s pennies or dollars, it’s whatever you personally use the most that’s worth your time and money 😊
well, i've heard more than a few people mention that they think khadi desaturates colour so i felt like i had to mention it. it's not something i've experienced either.
Thank you! All of the 100% cotton sketchbooks I've found are very expensive so I don't bother. I'm excited to try this sketchbook. I buy the 90# Arches CP W/C Paper in full sheets to save money. It's much easier to tear it into smaller pieces being lightweight and it has the same surface feel, performance and end result as the heavier weights. I almost wish I had never tried Arches because there's no going back and I have tried almost every 100% cotton paper out there.
i'm glad u found tthe review useful. seems like many wanted to buy it so it sold out in 12hrs after the restock on jacksons. make sure u have ur notifcation turned on :)
i did go to the link you posted and purchased the item from the link you posted. This is directly from the description of the item from link you posted: "Grey cover with 48 rough textured sheets" I'm not trying to be argumentative, just wanted to let you know the item changed since your purchase. @@PaintinHiding
@@llGracell thank you, grace. i appreciate you looking out for me and being very polite. may i ask, have you received the product yet? because when i had made my order, the listing also said 48 sheets so im aware what the listing says. i also recently ordered this for a friend and she received the same product i did. i'm just wondering if the product itself changed. please let me know. thank you.
i have not received it yet, i just ordered last night after watching your video :) I will let you know when i receive it, and if it is actually 100 sheets :D @@PaintinHiding
@@PaintinHiding - so if I order from your link, the fat book will have 100 sheets, not the 40 or 48 they list in the description? I really want to get the 100 sheet one. Thanks.
hey shelly :) i linked my review vid on it in the description of this khadi vid. if u go to THAT review vid for the specific palette, i've linked product links there. hope that helps
