I just sold my Mach-E GT Performance for the EV6 GT, and, respectfully, I don't think that Rory did a good job of understanding and reviewing this car. It's actually a real HOOT, and has perhaps the best bang for the buck (or pound) of any EV performance-oriented car. It outshines the i4 M50 in interior space, handling, and acceleration, and price. I find that the car has a lot of adjustability in its suspension, I just don't think Rory seemed to spend much time with it in anything but GT mode (which is a stiff ride). I think Rory couldn't look get past the sport seats -- I think he just might not be, uh, the body type for this car. For those who fit, it's completely wrong to dismiss this as a viable competitor to the i4 M50 and base Taycan. And it blows the Mach-E away with its much more sophistcated powertrain and suspension. Oh and I got one for $12k off of MSRP in the US, I think it's a steal.
Agree. I canceled my i4 M50 order after a test drive in the EV6 GT, which I bought. I immediately felt more comfortable in the Kia - much better forward visibility and unlike Rory, I love the seats. I think the tech in the Kia is better, the paddle regen control is wonderful. I am also getting way better range than the EPA rating. How Rory can say the car has unnecessary power and is not fun is beyond me.
Yeah, I don't get the seat comments. When I heard that I thought "Huh? I've never felt disccomfort along the thigh in this? I thought the seats were actually quite good". The climate/media control switching... never found that a problem either. Though these days I default it to climate (if I switch it to media it reverts to climate again after a few seconds) as nearly all the media controls are operated through buttons on the steering wheel. Australia may have a different suspension tune (or my prior experience is with stiff sports cars), but I'd hardly call the ride harsh, even in GT mode. I never really change the seat position, so lack of power seats isn't a big deal. Though I really would have liked the ventilation that is on the GT-Line seats. I haven't pushed my EV6 GT hard around corners yet (still getting used to it; don't want to bingle it), but there may be some truth to the lack of predictability mid corner. Shall see how much of that sense diappears once I'm more accustomed to the car. Overall, this car is a sensational drive, as well as a comfy cruiser. And in a squirt from the traffic lights it will destroy pretty much any ICE car out there.
I'm just really happy that that these brands can challenge the 'luxury' brands for their money. Having an EV means the acceleration/speed is not a factor anymore. Please do a drag race between this and the ferrari .
You may be able to get a Taycan for £60k, I think I’d still have that Kia. It’d probably go the same distance on a charge, and you don’t need to find one with £25k worth of options as they’re full spec from the start.
Design wise I think it looks like what we’ve come to expect from EVs today. However, the numbers on the speed is mind blowing. Kia might have outdone themselves here
There's also the fact that the base model has more than enough performance for a daily-driver crossover. You are paying more for worse experience with the GT.
I agree on the spoiling part. EV6 GT laps on track quite well, but it seems that Rory is on a mission to trash the car. "... For a Kia" and comparison to slower USED porsche Taycan gave it up. 😂
@@speksih : I really enjoy Rory's presentation... a bit of fact, a bit of his opinion, and a bit of 'tongue in cheek'. He has been (relatively) flattering about Kia's in the past, and while you may not agree with the comparison to a USED car, remember this channel is called 'AutoTrader' for a reason! 😜 Maybe if you and I were supplied with an Audi E-tron GT, we would look down our noses at most other cars on offer? Lucky Bas***d!
I daily drive a bmw 5 series and have a Peugeot 306 gti6 as a track car. But I have always appreciated kia as a company. They build decent cars for the morning and offer good warranty
@slickidrich490 : I have owned BMW's for the past forty-plus years. We also have a Kia Niro EV... I could not be more impressed with the standard of fit & finish in the Kia; OK, the seats are covered in something fake with a fancy name right out of Elon's book, and will never compare to BMW's M-Sport leather offerings, but it was only half the price. Things are changing at a scary pace! 🥴
WTF Tesla is a punching bag. Hyundai-Kia group is doing great EVs but they need to be taken down a peg. Don't be a cliche and treat all brands a fairly.
3.5 mins in and already Rory dishing out the REAL review on all the small things right and wrong. He calls it as it is and catches all the driver annoyances that most other reviewers miss. Matt Watson comes close with his 5 annoying things but Rory never fails. The REAL reviewer on YT.
@pumpituphomeboy : I agree... I have watched Rory's reviews on cars I have no interest in, just because I enjoy his videos. Nevertheless, not everyone is annoyed by the same things; For example, Kia's Lane Keep Assist (LKA) is a real hate for me... I want to be able to 'ease' through a corner by touching the sideline without getting into a 'Tug of War' with the steering wheel. As for have the damned thing scare the carp out of my passengers by 'Bonging' repeatedly... HELL NO! I have tried and failed to turn this off in the menus; having to turn it off each trip is a faff. My BMW allows me to turn the steering-tugger off, and choose whether to have vibrate on, and at what level... it would never be so uncouth as to involve my passengers in the decision by yelling at them! AND IT REMEMBERS WHAT I TOLD IT!... it is my car, after all. 😡

I love automobiles, everything from big trucks to nimble convertibles. EVs have a place, especially in daily commute duty or purpose build. But now, this Kia makes electric fun, set me up with one...PLEASE!
The Electric seats would not only add weight they would also more than likely increase the seat height. And then Rory would complain about the seats being too high😂😂😂
Give me mechanical seats any day of the week. My wife and I are constantly adjusting seats for each other and it takes way less time with a mechanical lever than holding a button and waiting for the seat to bzzzzzz its way into position. Pull, slide, clunk, done.
@@TheDaern If you had a good auto seat it would memorise both your favourite positions and automatically preset them based on whose key was used to open the door. No adjustment necessary. Ever.
Ignore the naysayers who say electric cars are “soulless“. I have had perfomance gas engine cars my whole life, but my EV6 GT has won me over. What it may lack in noise and vibration (if that’s your thing, it’s not mine anymore) it makes up for in instant, massive torque - which is its own kind of soul. You will love it.
I prefer manual seats.. how often am I really moving it? For me the answer is basically never, why carry around a bunch of gears and motors for something that moves maybe 5 times in the whole duration I own it?
@shovel : True, but the whole picture changes when two or more people share a vehicle. We have a Kia Niro without seat memory, and a BMW with "Comfort Access". Approach the BMW with your own key in your pocket and the door unlocks, the seat moves to your position, the door-mirrors do the same, the sound system switches to your station, the Head-Up display adjusts to your height, etc. Just think how much complication you are avoiding! 😜 🥴
The heat does not come on automatically when you set the temperature, because it's a thermostat. This means that when the temperature varies too far above, or too far below the temperature that you have set, it will automatically turn on heat or cool depending on the circumstance. If you set the temperature to the temperature that you want, and need use heat to get there, then you need to press heat. If you set the temperature to what you want, and need to get cool to get there, then you press the cooling button. But if you just set the temperature and leave it alone, it works automatically.
I would for sure buy this car. I would love dust my hardcore ICE motorhead friends with an family EV designed for going to work, bringing the kids to soccer games, and to the grocery store.
i think the ioniq 6 N will beat everything. i have a 2023 golfR performance at the moment but im ready to trade it in, in a heartbeat for the ioniq 6N. finally an ev worth it
Those suspensions are set like that because SUVs are inherently top heavy.. That's just physics.. They would like them to perform like a car. SUVs are not "cars". They're a bridge between minivans and trucks..
The manual seat surprised me when I first went to look at mine. I said “Really? A manual seat?” The sales guy claimed it was for “weight reduction”. Uh huh… but it has a power moonroof… But I’m the only person that drives my car. I set it once and I don’t touch it ever again. It’s not a deal breaker.

I don't understand how lazy the humanity has become. Because of the winging about manual seating and now, unpowered tailgates. Really! I love manual seating, so easy and quick. What a step backwards, waiting for electric motors.
A quick FYI on the infotainment.... you can select which chargers the map shows you when you press EV on the screen. Mine is set to 100kW chargers and above - this shows only the faster DC chargers!
I received a $3750 dealer discount and another $4000 discount for financing with Kia. My OTD with taxes in VA was $3000 less than MSRP. Oh, and I am beating the 207 mile EPA range rating by 30 miles. I am confident that when it's not 98F here I can get closer to 240miles and up for range. As for finding DC charging stations, if you use Apple Car Play your charging apps and drill down by charging speed.
@@ThisiscoolGAMES I'd put the build quality of this car against my Mercedes-Benz GLC AMG. I agree, Kia probably doesn't end up as a poster on the wall of teenagers. I wanted an EV for the performance. This thing is considerably quicker than my RS3 tuned on E85. It's a hoot!
@@sforry9332 I agree. I have one and the fit and finish is just as good as my BMW. It’s scary fast and I’m killing the EPA range rating. Nice review (as ALWAYS!) but, I disagree in that it's not difficult to wrap your head around buttons and allocation of them, once you've been in the car for longer than 10mins, or more than a one off test drive, and I 100% prefer the option of physical buttons over a one screen to do EVERYTHING, meaning I need to look away from the road to see/check my speed!
You have to turn the heating on as it has to be generated via an electric heater - totally different to a ICE powered car that generates the heat regardless.
A word of warning… I recently bought the GT (in black) and have been driving it now for 4 months. During that time I’ve accumulated numerous scratches in nearly every area of the car. The drive is great and the performance is something else, but the paint is the worst paint on a car I’ve ever had, and especially one which costs over £60k.
What happens if soccer mum picking up her kids from school after shopping in her high heels accidently releases 585HP kick down in front of the school, it could do some real damage whereas if she stuck to her Honda Odyssey worse is a bump onto someones rear bumper.
If you get confused about two simple knobs i don't know what to tell you, i'm pretty sure most people appreciate having physical knobs to control basic functions instead relying on a tactile screen for everything.
Agree. I have an EV6 GT and in 6 months of ownership I think I have mistaken the mode I’m in maybe twice. Besides, you can control the radio from the steering wheel, no need to use the screen. I think it’s mainly an issue for car reviewers who always seem to find something to niggle about in their limited time with the vehicle. For owners, it’s a non-issue.
Nice review but just drop the "... for a Kia" BS already. They completely revamped their brand since years, these are not dollar-store cars any more. Kia interior quality is higher than some 'premium' brands, and lets not talk about reliability.
I have had one of these for 6 months. You don’t need to press the heat button if climate is in auto mode as it should be. Not remotely bothered about the lack of electric seats. No idea what Rory is going on about regarding the bolster 🤷♂️. I find the handling is great (and I’ve had M cars previously). Does Rory know how dual motors work? The GT has a more powerful rear motor and you can’t direct power from the front motor to the rear one. It has similar performance to a Tesla Model 3 P (which I had before my GT - the GT is a much better car) but I don’t recall Rory saying that had too much power. Seems like Rory set out to discredit the car from the off - unlike the other EV6 GT reviews. Strange.
Whether it’s heat or auto, you do need to press a button in addition to setting the temp via the knob. Not the case on other cars. I think you misunderstood by point about moving power front and rear. Yes it has a less powerful motor up front, but my preference would be for it to use even less of the power it has at the front during cornering (in GT mode specifically). And ALL high performance EVs are unnecessarily fast - especially when they’re family cars whose primary purpose is not performance. The g-forces you pull when deploying the full and immediate torque are too uncomfortable to use regularly.
@@AutoTraderTV Auto is the default. No need to press any buttons unless at some point someone has turned it off. I last pressed one of those in January when I was trying stuff out - no need since. GT mode partially disables traction control. If you don't like that and still want full power, you can configure MY mode with TC fully on. Also you can get more power by using maximum power output mode. But sounds like you wouldn't like that.
Reviewers really need get over their Kia snobbery. Hyundai / Kia are innovation leaders in EVs and their prices are extremely good for the quality they offer.
They don't have electric adjustments because electric adjusting seats are notoriously heavy, it's electric vehicle and they are focusing on the highest range possible, this means shedding wait where possible. The fact that 62 Grand, and has no electric adjustment seats, makes perfect sense if you actually know what you're talkin about.
one thing I don't like about the modern cars is the digital displays . They are just square IPADS stuck on the dash. While they offer amazing features, I don't think they are being explored enough. II would like to see them more harmonized with the dash shape and with some cool 3D dials, which would resemble old stylish bezels.
I have a kia ev6 gt-line and I really don't see what use 585hp would have. The car is comfortable but the number one enemy is weight. It doesn't matter if you give me 200hp more, it's still much too heavy to attack the turns well. here in Canada the ev6 GT costs around $24,000 more with lost government rebates. I don't regret my choice of the GT-line
The power of modern EVs is incredible, no doubt. 0-60 times are just silly now. But it's hard to compare to true sports cars because what you don't see on the paper stats is responsiveness under braking and cornering. EVs are great in a straight line, but they're still yet to impress in terms of feeland feedback around tight and twisty sections of road where the real fun comes to play.
Yup. This thing doesn't bode well for the Hyundai ioniq5N. The way Porsche etc make heavy pigs handle, drive and ride well is with super expensive suspension. These don't have triple chamber 48v anti roll etc etc, so ride and handle like crap. Bravo guys. Bravo.
@pigeonpoo1823 a 160k€ porsche taycan turbo s can only do one fast lap on nurburg ring until its battery overheats and goes into turtle mode, same for BMW i4 M50, Model3 perf can't even do one single lap. 100% agree. The only real reason to change your ev in the future will be for a better battery and so I'm sure manufacturers will probably make it as difficult as possible to upgrade them! From a commercial perspective, I also don't see why manufacturers will build a battery capable of 500mile range and a 500,000 mile lifespan. If the batteries are that good to start, you'd only change the car based on the interior. I can see us all eventually in self driving pods which can be setup as an office/living room. Hi Rory, thanks for the review! The KIA EV6 GT is a bit much for me, because the GT line AWD is plenty fast enough for me. However, I would like to know why the 585 Hp is a bit much for a family car, given that there are plenty of people who like the feeling of getting pushed forward by a giant hand. I didn't see this remark in the Porsche Taycan review you did a while ago, and the Taycan is also a family car.
Great review!! Unrelatedly I hope you do a distance road trip review with the new Land Cruiser similar to what you did with the Audi estate from Germany
I had high hopes for this, but the downsides Rory mentioned around handling, unpredictable cornering dynamics are deal breakers for me. Still looking for a Touring M340i Electric equivalent.
Why is everyone obsessed with electric seats? They're heavy and slow. I adjusted my seats in January when I got my car and haven't touched them since. Also for the slightly slimmer driver (🤣) the bolsters fit perfectly and don't dig in to your thighs.Overall it's an incredible car, especially when you consider it's half the price of the equivalent Taycan. I agree the heating controls are a bit annoying but it's no big deal. The power is quite addictive though. Certainly for most people the regular car is probably better (and more than fast enough) but that extra grunt is nice to have. My weekend toy is a BAC Mono, and in a straight line the KIA doesn't feel at all slow, that's mental. My Porsche 997 now sits in the garage most of the time.
Seems there is a common trend with AWD EVs that have 400+ of horse power. They accelerate like rockets on a straight line but on corners they show their weaknesses and cant compete with cars like the i30N. The only thing where these cars are fun at, is to awe other drivers at traffic lights.
Porsche promised a 1000HP Taycan in the works, I've driven the Tesla Plaid and Lucid Air, that pure EV acceleration, 0-60 in sub 2 seconds, after a few times, it's nothing more then a novelty. I'll take a sub 6-7 second EV with a 500 mile range any day over a 1000HP or sub 2 second EV. Stop giving us more power, give us range.
I agree with you on the power front, but I think range is already good enough. I just completed a 5000km road trip across Australia in my EV6 GT-line and there was only one leg where we dropped below 10%. What the current crop of EVs need is not more power or range, but more value, refinement, and character.
EV’s don’t work the same as ICE. A powerful ICE car is burning excess fuel when travelling slowly. A powerful EV isn’t using any more power when travelling slowly, than one with much less power.
YAWN, interesting until the price is mentioned again as usual with all these cars these days, maybe I'm just old but come on, when did average ish cars become as expensive as some houses? I suppose cheapest house around here is £100k though so only 60% of the price lol. I have to say .. I know it’s a Kia. And it’s an EV. But where else can you buy a car outputting those performance figures - brand new - for £60k? No normal engined car will get near those torque figures and for overall horsepower you’ll be looking at M-sport BMWs which are much more expensive than £60k new. Odd that a professional reviewer can’t operate easy-to-use aircon controls that has been in Kia’s and Hyundais for years. This review is also inaccurate in how the aircon works as you do not need to press a heat button. Modern infotainment systems should be run by a center console joystick, that you press in for enter. Rory reviews a brand new Kia EV with a 7 year warranty by trying to promote 2+ year old Porsche cars. lol no surprise but a tad disappointing. The info about the climate control is plain wrong, when I used it worked fine and better than other hi end systems I’ve experienced. I just don’t get that and it does taint the overall review because it begs the question of what else Sid might be wrong/inaccurate. Drove the EV6 only a few days go, nice car which works well, unlike the Taycan😉
Completely unnecessary. The standard AWD model with proper 18" wheels and comfort seats is already nearly 400bhp and more than fast enough for anyone, plus the range is much better
