We were fortunate enough to spend a few days living with this Kia EV6 GT when we went back to visit Colorado and it did not disappoint. With 576-HP , a 0-to-60 mph in 3.4 seconds, a top speed of 161 mph, and an 800V charging system capable of 10-80% in 18 minutes, this is a playful and capable competitor to the Mustang Mach-E GT.
The main downside is the 206 miles of EPA range. Still, we can see why this is a popular choice!
What do you think of the Kia EV6 GT?

EV6 is probably one of the best cars I've driven and owned. Everything about it is almost perfect... I've tried most EVs, this is just an amazing car. The only worse part of the car is the Route/Planning Navigation. Other than that, its drives so comfortably, charges so fast... I get mostly 237 kwh and done in less than 15 mins.

Totally excited to see this video! So I had a mach-e gtpe just like yours, but traded it in for an EV6 GT a couple of months ago. I think your review is spot on. I'd say that the EV6 GT is for those that like hot hatches where sporty performance is the key point. It's beyond sporty, truly ridiculously quick. For my specific commute, with 75% 50-55 mph and the rest city driving, the range is showing 257 miles in eco mode. The mach-e gtpe was showing a similar range last Summer prior to the range estimate update. The buttons in the Kia are the most appreciated aspect. Going from eco to gt mode takes 1 second and this was always awkward in the mach-e. The UI isn't as advanced as the mach-e, but I don't miss the laggy speed of the mach-e's system. The build quality of the mach-e was exceptional and the Kia has some odd sounds coming from the hatch area. I've seen some uneven gaps as well. But it can charge twice as fast as mach-e. Both are amazing EVs and your videos certainly help us all understand which one is best suited to our needs 👍

How would you guys compare the acceleration of the ev6 gt vs Mach e gt

Thanks for the review, guys! I'm definitely more of a fan of the Mach-E's styling, but I respect the EV6 GT's capabilities.

I have an EV6 GT and if you drive in Eco or Normal, the suspension is softer. It’s still on the firm side, but not harsh at all. Re: Range. I drive mostly in Normal with occasional GT blasts and I have been shocked by how much better I have done versus the EPA rating. The last time I charged to 100% the range projection was 276 miles. I do more city driving than freeway, but there is some freeway driving in there. If you drive in GT mode all the time with a heavy foot, the range will suffer. However you can get very good range if you drive a little conservatively. Of course, that sort of defeats the purpose of this car, but if you want greater range, it is possible.

I'll second your findings. In eco mode without i-pedal on regen level 3, I can get 4 mi/kwhr in my ev6 gt. And the tires are a little under inflated. I can probably squeeze out 300 mile range if I try. Commute is slow road and city though.

Hey there -- I loved the EV6 GT so much I'm switching from my Mach-E GTPE to it! I've only driven it for about 7 hours home from where I bought it (you can get a *smokin* great deal on them right now). I wanted to comment on a couple of things you might have missed in your limited time with the car: 1. You can store the cargo cover underneath the floor shelf, there's actually indentations where the cargo cover snaps in out of place (right where I think you had some clothes and your sodas in the video) 2. The car actually has the wheelbase of their full-size SUV Telluride, and the rear seat legroom is exceptional and actually greater than the MME. Cargo capacity is less however. 3. The drive modes reset every time you get in the car, so you'll have to switch to your preferred Drive Mode and regen level each time you get in. This has nothing to do with KIA's app -- it is working as designed. This is done, in part, due to EPA ratings testing. Methodology for EPA tests has somewhat to do with what mode the car starts out in. Not a big deal, you just have some more pre-flight buttons to push. 4. The media / HVAC control sharing is made much better when you use the hidden feature of long-pressing the switcher -- it then lets you choose which mode is the "default." The complaints happen when the driver doesn't remember what mode it is in before turning up the volume when they meant to turn up the temperature. With setting the default, it makes it predictable which mode you're in from the outset -- largely solves this little complaint, yet this essential hidden feature is something reviewers don't know about when they do their reviews. 5. The EV6 is a charging MONSTER, but not with a cold battery as you guys had. You have to know the nerdy way to do this (Kyle did a video on what to do), but if you preconditioned before plugging in, you'd see how slow the Mach-E is in charging by comparison. You precondition by setting a POI to a charger in the native navigation system -- not a manual button -- and this software is on the GT at launch. On my road trip home with a toasty battery, I pulled 230kw until after 50%, then still about 180kw for most of the charge to 80%. Even on a 150kw unit, the EV6 sucks down at 150kw for most of its curve, and it only takes about 3-4 minutes. What's important to note is that if you do the preconditioning, charge stops are so frekin fast, it doesn't really matter that you have to do more of them with this car. I feel like I could do a cannonball run with this car (except for some states without charging......) 6. The suspension tuning is sooooo much better than the GTPE. The EV6 GT has adaptive suspension as well. There is much more variability between modes compared with the Mach-E, and if you went into Normal or Eco mode, you would notice the difference much more. You might have missed it, but there's a "My Mode" which, like a M mode on BMWs, is a custom configurable mode that allows you set every parameter, so you can have full 575hp + cushy suspension if you want. 7. HDA2 beats BlueCruise hands down. I'll be doing some in-depth stuff on this soon, but never does unpredictable things like BlueCruise does all the time (disconnecting, not steering properly, nearly hitting things in the next lane, ping-ponging). 8. Even on my one road trip so far, I got 3.1mi/KWh, which is much better than I got regularly on the same drive with the GTPE. The EV6 has a smaller battery, but I stopped at the same EA stops along I-5 with both in the end. Eco mode in the EV6 GT cuts the front motors on all but very low speed for efficiency -- Mach-E cannot do this. 9. Finally, KIA gives you the $7500 tax credit if you lease the car! You can pay off the lease right away and keep about $6500 or so of that discount. Dealers in CA are discounting the EV6 GT easily $2-5k if you look around, BEFORE the $7500..... It was good to hear your impressions of the car -- perhaps we can figure out how to get together next time we're down in SoCal to compare some more!

I have that bar type cover in my car and it has to be removed when putting the seats down and loading the car. Otherwise, it is useful. I love the way the EV6 looks. Much more so than the Ionic5 or GV60. Great review. Thanks for sharing.

All late 2022 and 2023 have built in battery pre conditioning. All early 2022's can be brought in to dealerships have it installed. With the new OTA or self installed Nav updates, Route planning with battery pre conditioning has been greatly improved.

We had a similar retractable trunk cover in our 2005 Prius, and it was a pain when you wanted to remove the bar. if it fits in under floor storage, not as big a deal unless you want to use that storage too.

Great overview. This definitely has some pros to it if you prioritize driving dynamics and speed over everything else, but I'm someone who values more of a balance of performance and creature comforts, which is why the Mach-E is a better vehicle to me. Lack of wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, seat motors/memory settings tied to profiles, and that clunky HVAC control setup would make daily driving more frustrating. So it's a deal breaker for me unless they fixed those issues.

We test drove a EV6 GT-Line to compare it to a Mach-e CR1... I am 6'3"... And I felt totally squished in the EV6...Head was in the rough and pressed up against the side of the car. The seats are less comfortable than the CR1 too... So CR1 it will be.

Yes, the EV6 is a real head-turner! Gotta say, though, that I'd prefer its sibling Ioniq 5, inside and out. Not as sporty, but roomier and more practical. The cargo cover wouldn't bother me, since it can be stored easily under the cargo lid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rZJGbPhGceg.html I agree that the climate/stereo toggle control would be irksome. Love the 800V DCFC charging in the EV6, Ioniq 5, GV60: their charging curve even beats my Model 3.

I have only test driven the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 is the best-looking EV in the 45k range. From this video, the EV6 interior looks better than the Ioniq 5 interior..

Eh? Does this gt not have some updates? My gtline 2023 definitely does do preconditioning based on selecting a fast charger in the nav. That update is being rolled out to the 2022 models. There is supposedly an auto park feature as well. I have never used it.

@@MachE_VLOG ah I see. It probably doesn't help that Kia is Very Bad at OTA updates. A lot of owners on forums are just pushing it themselves via USB. Another random fact, the rear chrome trim lights up on international models ( Korean and EU?)

230 for the EV6 GT and 255 for the Mach E GT, not big difference in range.

The EV6 GT has a range of 206 miles. The Mach-E GT PE has a range of 260 miles and the Mach-E GT has a range of 270. Pretty significant difference. That's a 24 to 31 percent difference.

@@josephfogus6735 The EV6 GT does feel a bit quicker but only slightly. I'd be interested in comparing it with a 2024 Mach-E GT since it will do 0-60 in 3.3 seconds.

I think the Mach-E GT PE is a better all around car and has significantly more range. If I only wanted a car to drive fast on curvy roads, the EV6 GT would be great, but the suspension is too firm for daily driving IMO and the range is the deal breaker.
