Thanks Bjorn. Took possession of my new Niro EV last week, upgrading from previous generation eNiro. A massive improvement on everything. Kia have polished up all the niggles. The only thing that annoys me is that I can't quickly access the climate screen to turn the heat off. I can't find a way to simply turn the heat off on the main climate button panel. Apart from that it's a fabulous car. I test drove the EV6 and didn't like it. A bit big and clumbsy with hard suspension for Irish roads. The Niro is a perfect sized car.

I also found out that zero regeneration is not really zero, it still does a bit of regeneration! I was used to coasting a lot in my Hyundai Ioniq and I was surpriced that the Niro EV was a lot worse at coasting until I set it in Neutral (where the 0,29 cw Niro was still not as good as the 0,21 cw Ioniq)

Nice video as usual. What an epic car with the option for adjustable regen and ventilated seats for the win. I'm thinking about switching from the inadequate TMY to this one. I wish my silly Tesla could have lane assist active all the time instead of the autopilot, which is just annoying in the city where I do most of my driving.
@michalvaner3167
@michalvaner3167 Год назад
My impression is there's a difference in philosophy. With these cars, they are assistants. It's you who is driving and they are just making it more convenient for you as best as they can. With Tesla, the intention is that it's the car that's driving and you're just watching over it. So there's the process of handing it over from the driver to the car and back. And it really comes down mostly to the driver, what fits their needs and habits better. Some people even prefer not to have the lane assistant active and prefer to drive fully by hand.
@pigedehekkan
@pigedehekkan Год назад
@@michalvaner3167 You are of course correct. They are different cars and we are all different people with different needs and preferences. Tesla autopilot is very good if you drive on perfect road with smooth asphalt on highways where you just drive along with the rest of the traffic. But where I live and drive for the most parts, there are bumps, potholes, missing marking and all sorts of imperfect conditions for autopilot. That's why the Koreans lane assist is so good, you can steer a little to avoid driving in the potholes and the car will gently try to center the car again without disengaging the lane assist. When I try that with autopilot it struggles me to force the car back to the center and suddenly disengages in a violent matter when it doesn't get it's will. Also the autopilot is frenetic when trying to keep distance to the car in front, accelerating and braking every second making it feel like the kangaroo driving of an ex-car, and the adaptive cruisecontrol in the Koreans are better. Although autopilot sees everything which is epic for safety. If Tesla implemented the option to adjust and custom the sensitivity of autopilot, regen and autowipers, to fit my needs instead of me having to adjust to the Tesla, that would be awesome. So to conclude; if TMY had ventilated and not so short seats, option to adjust regen, option to adjust autowipers, turn off all sounds even autopilot bingbong, option to switch out the ufo revers sound and a bit softer dampers, the Tesla Y would almost be the perfect car.
@michalvaner3167
@michalvaner3167 Год назад
@@pigedehekkan Heh, I see I'm not the only one that would love to take 2 or 3 different cars and cross-breed them to get exactly the perfect thing for self 😀. I'm driving Kona, and I feel like it is a good fit for how I drive. Unfortunately, it's the lower trim, so no radar for adaptive cruise control, only the basic one ‒ but even that is quite OK, with switching between cruise control and speed limiter + high regen. Yet, there are things I'd want a bit different ‒ maybe a slightly bigger trunk, a bit faster charging, better aerodynamics, a frunk would be nice (that one is possible as DIY, but I didn't dare yet, not sure about warranties then). So yes, taking the hardware of Tesla 3 or Y, but giving it the controls, assistants and instrument cluster of the Kona would make a really nice car. And yes, I'm keeping an eye on Ionic 6, it might actually be that car, once it is available.

That's amazing, thanks! Just a minor point- 2.5v is really "under load cell cut-off", unless the pack is the performance one the bms is normally programmed to cut cells earlier. This is needed to protect weaker cells in the series. Still, 3.2v (static) has enough of juice to crawl to the charger. >4.2v on top rare for traction cells, would be interesting to see the long term retention
@maximemineault8117
@maximemineault8117 Год назад
Having the pack voltage and cell voltage to 4.26 volts at 96.5%, I really think they had put a LiHV chemistry instead of li-ion or lipo. If that’s the case, your comment about low voltage is even more relevant because that chemistry don’t go below 3.0 volts.

It is almost flat and I got home theese km with consumtion of under 5 kwh/100km . When you drive upwards it is the same as whitout regeneration.

How many regeneration modes does it have, same as the EV6? Can it do one pedal driving? Does it have a heat pump as well?
@macvos

The levels are 0-3 and i-Pedal (so off and 4 levels). It can do one pedal drive, including coming to a full stop. It is activated by selecting the highest level of regenerative braking, called i-Pedal. So it's 0 = 0ff, 1-3 and i-Pedal = one pedal drive. Heat pump depends on the country. Here in the Netherlands it's not available, but our neighbour country Germany does get it.

@@bjornnyland Does kw/h not mean the power it is capable of delivering over the course on an hour. eg.a 64.8kw/h battery can theoretically deliver 64,8kw of energy over the course of one hour. It wouldn't actually do that because of losses and internal resistances. But it may be capable of charging at 75kw/h. In other words, the charging system is capable of delivering up to 75 kw of energy into the battery in an hour. this would make the time from 0-100% somewhat less than an hour, if it could maintain that level of charge for the duration required to fully charge that battery. So our 64.8kw/h battery could theoretically deliver the 64.4kw of energy it contains in an hour, but in practical use, it will be delivering 14-20kw per hour, depending on speed and heating requirements, etc, which will give us the 2.5-4 hours of driving per full charge. The Ioniq 5 can charge at 170kw/h or 220kw/h, but the battery energy capacity is only either 58, 73 or 77kw of energy. Its the much greater charging capacity which gives it the short charging time. Obviously, you know all this. Anyway, it's an irrelevance. whether consumers talk about kw or kw/h of the battery, they (the consumer) mean the same thing. I still enjoy your tests, regardless😄

Bjorn I love your videos but you should say "STOP" instead of "SOTP, their is a mistake on the picture you are using. SOTP does not mean anything in english (Did I troll well? I'm kinda noob in trolling, trying to improve myself...)

Kona and Niro are just too noisy. There are better options available now in that department.

The slow charging of the new Niro kinda kills my interest in it. It's fine if they don't want to give it the "premium" charging speeds of the EV6 and Ioniq 5, but 80 kW max in 2022 for a car with a decently-sized battery is just a dealbreaker. A shame too since everything else about the Niro is quite good.

you know that you have to pre.warm the battery to get 80-100kw charging speed?

I really hope that auto steer can be disengaged…..

There's a button on the steering wheel for it.

@@bjornnyland That button only turns the lane keep off temporarily. As soon as it encounters a set of white lines it turns the lane keep and steering back on again. Annoying.
