Hopefully the original author can pin this comment. I've had this Kia Optima for quite a number of years. The radio issue can be one of these options ranked highly to less likelu in order: 1) stuck CD, try doing a reset on that tiny button by the power. If you can get that CD out send it flim flam to Jimmy jam out of there. 2) Hard reset on battery by pulling negative cable at least 1/2 hour,. Put it back on, wait 15 mins, see if issue is fixed. 3) the clock spring part behind the steering wheel is failing and needs replacing, this part affects your horn, steering wheel controls, cruise control etc.. When this is bad, things go a bit haywire. 4) BCM part failing. If this is failing you'll get a series of clicks that you can hear. It can affect almost anything electronic. Eg radio, blinkers, auto power windows, lights, parking lock, reverse sensor etc. hopefully not this.
FIXED IT !! After reset button not working and verified all fuses were good had to disconnect car battery for 5 mins and reconnected and now radio and reset button works
The fix has been to find a pin and press the tiny reset button next to the power/volume control. Once I do this, the system boots up and functions normally, even remembers all my presets.
Yes thank you soooo much i just bought this car havent even made a payment and i got in my car and my screen turned off i was panicking but hit the little reset button and volla it workes. 😕😊
I had same issue with my KIA Optima 2013 LX. I reset the radio and it fixed. Reset button is right next to Power button button right side. It looks like tiny hole and thats the reset button. Use thin hard wire or anything hard metal that can fit in that hole and it will fix your issue and if not then take your car to the repair shop...Good luck!!!!
I have a 2013 Kia Optima I bought a month ago for my wife. I was completely in love with car until I started having issues with the radio. I got home and the radio was on but as I tried turning off the radio and or change the station it was completely frozen. On another day the radio completely was off and I could not turn it on till the car sat for a while then it worked again. I'm curious to see what the dealer tells me but this is getting really frustrating...
I have a 2013 Kia Optima EX GDI, purchased it only seven months ago. My radio does not shut off however, my problem is while car is in reverse the radio should automatically shut-off, my radio does not. I have also had problems with the bluetooth connection, sometimes it works, and when it doesn't I have to reconnect it. My biggest issue is, I have had the radio replaced at the dealership TWICE!!! Still have the same issues. How frustrating.
I had c.d. stuck in 2009 kia sorento sterio. to fix problem first turn of sterio. then go unplug battery. ( neg. only). place cable in safe place not to creat chock. forget about it for at least 1hour.# pray# go back connect neg. cable, for get for at least 30min. go back put key in egniton. Turn key to acc. motor off.turn on sterio, push c.d. & eject button at the same time wamo c.d. slides out. if it didnt work dor you. check acc. fuss bx for audio check fuss. enjoy.
I had to get my battery jumped so I had to change the fuse. I tried the reset with no help. The UVO screen is still black and will not power on. Guess I will have find a dealership to replace my radio. Sucks having no backup cam or radio.
Hey Jacqueline, try the reset again. Kia won’t replace just the radio. Kia will tell you they have to replace the entire ‘head’ unit which will cost you around $2500.
Had the same issue but mine does not have the reset button. So I took out the big yellow radio fuse (which was already lose), waited 30 seconds, put it back in and all was good as new.
That's why you should install an after market radio or dump that piece of shit. My friend had the same problem and then it had a problem with the steering so he trade and got a 2013 Civic and he loves it at least Honda don't put in cheap ass plastic chinese radios that breaks 3 months later. Do ya self a favor and dump that piece of shit and get a Honda or something. Who know 6 months ya have another problem bro I just KNOW. Kia always lie a bout everything so they can rip you off!!
i have a 2016 kia sorento i pushed the small button next to the volume for 5 seconds and like it rebooted the whole audio first my back up camera wasnt working radio was completely off no clock display thanks for the advice .
The problem seems to have corrected itself. However there's a lot of squeaks and rattles that shouldn't happen in a new car. And worst of all the mileage is way over estimated by Kia. Real world mileage is nowhere near what they advertise
Same exact problem happened to me today in my 2013 Kia Optima. The radio just died. It won't turn on. It's driving me crazy. I don't have time to keep taking my car in!
GET AN EARRING OR PAPER CLIP. THERE IS A VERY SMALL INDENTATION UNDER THE VOLUME AND NEXT THE SEEK BUTTNON. PRESS YOUR UTENSIL IN THERE AND IT WILL WORK!!!!
same here, they are replacing it with a new radio and while we are waiting for the new unit the car won't start. We are taking it to the dealer for the second time cause the first time they didn't find anything wrong with it after it was jumped.
So I came here thinking it’s a 2012 and everyone keeps talking abt this fancy reset button. I don’t have that on my 2012 optima. I do have the fuzes though. I went in my car and did the 5 second trick and it didn’t work either the screens still black as shit. So I’m gonna go to the mechanic tomorrow and see what they can do. But if anyone knows about the 2012 Kia optima let me know please cause all these comments are all 2013’s and I don’t got that reset button
By the way the car is amazing. It runs and drives excellent just the radio is my main head ache. I have owned BMW,Mercedes,Hondas,Toyotas and this car is outstanding just has its few issues like any other car...
My kia optima has an infinity radio. This evening I expressed the media button and a error message in Korean appeared. It was nothing new so I clicked the okay button. Next thing I know the media button and phone button won't work
This cars are crap just stating the truth not hating!
