His fights against Jackie Chan are phenominal. 1984's Wheels on Meals ending 1 on 1 fight between Jackie Chan and Benny The Jet at the time of release was considered "The greatest fight ever caught on film"
If there ever was a Martial Artist in the world, that would deserve the hype and props that fans give Bruce Lee... THIS man, deserves it the most. Don't get me wrong, I think Bruce Lee was a Martial Arts genius, and his views and philosophy on combat were beyond his time and have still not been put to practice by anyone... but sadly, Bruce never competed in official tournaments, we never got a chance to see him in combat, yes I know there are stories of witnesses and so on... but that is just that, a story... men like Benny, Chuck, Wallace, Brown... all these men fought, and fought the best, at their prime, and won MANY times... I praise Benny Urquidez for being the best "PROVEN" Martial Artist of all time.
Is he Mexican or some kind of Indian because he's a throwback to Indian warriors of old i mean no disrespect too you Tyson fans out there but the real baddest man on the planet! Is none other than mr benny the jet urquidez even the great.sugar ray leonard did not want to fight this extraordinary man if you followed him in the 80s . .
One of the greatest fighters of all time. What I liked about "The Jet" was his courage. While many top karate fighters initially shied away from exploring other full contact martial arts competitions Benny, not only entered, but proved himself a true warrior, and proved to be a formidable competitor in every field he entered.
I saw him walking around a department store I work in. Noone else knew who it was but I knew instantly. I was too much in awe to go up and introduce myself and at least shake his hand. I see tv and film stars quite often and don't care.. but this guy is a living legend.
I remember this guy as a kid in the late 70s early 80s. He stuck to my mind because he was so dominating and accurate! Benny The Innovater! Peace bro. Keep Kick'n
Awesome guy. His simple but effective approach made it easy for me to get my start in kickboxing. He is a naturally gifted fighter and all around good guy.
Dude, he's a tiny guy, but he looks like he has hammers for hands. I would have fought him in my heyday, not to think I'd win, but that I'd lose and play that loss over and over and over in my mind, learning everything I saw him do.
I saw Urquidez in 2 movies of Jackie Chan (Wheels On Meals and Dragon Forever) and then i started to search information of this person. He seems awesome!
Sensei Benny Urquidez is legit as authentic unlike the bogus martial arts masters with the likes of George Dillman, Frank Deux, Count Dante, those owners of Mc Dojos and many others who are self-proclaimed masters.
if u train this every day, with a partner, it becomes natural movements. And u do this in a real fight with out thinking... just by reflex... I've trained so much when was Yong, and had to fight 2 times for real in my life, all 2 fights ended with just 1 strike, and i Didn't think what to do, it was natural.
I always called that slipping and did bobs differently, but the idea of feinting with movement of your torso is interesting I had only ever been taught or practiced feinting punches to set up other punches. interesting
Yes, id call it slipping too. Its more of a response to an incoming punch than a feint. I only use the word feint for movements are used to provoke reactions. Usually a fake punch or fake step. But you can feint with your eyes, or small jerking movements also. Fake kicks work wonders to make the guard drop also.
Same thing happened with him and Jackie Chan they decided after wanting to fight after becoming friends and spar/training partners on and off for a few years in the 1980s that they should fight; it was decided that with The Jets undefeated record and Jackie's peaking Film career that whomever lost it would devestate Either The Jet or Jackie Chan's career. - According to an interview with The Jet they did an official spar (aroundWheels on MealsERA), got a DRAW. (check second response for detail)
Interview with The Jet tells a story about between filming Wheels on Meals and dragons forever him and Jackie Chan had a "Secretly judged match, friendly competition / spar and then to teach eachother afterwards". JC had a broken nose and black eye / cuts, The Jet hand was broken in two places by a punch of Jackies, along with JC scoring 3 points within 40 seconds after The Jet began to tire. - The Jet said it ended as a DRAW 7pts to 7pts and his favorite "Match".JC only states that they spar'd
Benny was MMA before it had a name. If your new to the ring/cage arts do yourself a favor and consume every bit of info this man has to offer and decide later if it works for you. Be a shame to waste this mans experience.
I remember rick o'cain, I fought at the jet center in van neys ca back in the mid 80's (Don Brock) I trained at the JC for about 6 moths back then, it was areal treat to meet Benny, and I met Bill Wallace there once. I'm in my late 50's now, but great memories.
RECORD 58 wins 0 loss, 49 knock outs 6x world champion.Name comes from Spinning Back Kick "The Jet" - Jackie Chan is my personal hero, and Jackie and Benny almost actually fought in the ring. Jackie becoming good friends with The Jet as they sparred & figured out fight Coreog. for the films (train together) JC often said they should actually fight, other times Benny The Jet told jackie the two of them should fight. -Theory is they decided unless it was a draw, the loser's image would be hurt.
200 fights, 0 losses, 6 championships that's Benny's record. No offense to fans of Bruce Lee, Van Damme, Jackie Chan, Steven Segal... none of those guys can claim a record like that, not even close... but those are actors, yet not even real champions like Chuck Norris or even Anderson Silva can claim to be undefeated... well there is Pacquiao, but he wont see 200 fights in boxing...
ended up that Jackie was much much faster with the ability to perceive movements and dodge them using the jets momentum against him, JC didn't tire. benny was far stronger and still fast just not as fast or "cat like reflex dodging" as JC.. When JC wore down Benny The Jet JC got 3 points in a row off of Roundhouse, Bicycle, and Palm to forhead. prior (they say near 6 minutes prior) JC was near knock-out after a kick to the head after dodging a barrage of punches. Final was 7-7 Draw.
