The first ever Mocktails with MommaCusses and we make a summery, bright, refreshing Watermelon Fizz. Gwenna and Abbi also play a round of AITA and decided that banana cupcakes seem like a horrible idea, it’s okay to not pet the puppets, and siblings just fight about PS5 games.

Hi, as a 33 year-old woman with cptsd due to childhood trauma, I wanted to thank you for all of your content. I have a child now myself, 5 yo, and it amazes me how much mothering I didn't receive... simply watching you and your daughter interact. I am forever grateful for these examples, that I can tuck away for later, so that I can be a better mother to my son and be the mother I never had.

Your an amazing momma just for recognizing what you went through and for making sure your son never has to experience or feel what you did growing up! I went through alot as a child too an then had my daughter at 15 an my son at 17, they are 18 and 16 now and they truly are the only thing that matters to me from the day they were born we have such a great close loving relationship and with the love an determination you have 2 make sure u do right by your son will 100% show through the young man you sons gonna grow to be! Just dont take it to heart when they get to 12-14 around there an go throught the "miserable teenage stage" lol i promise they grow out of it as quick as it comes 😂❤❤❤

The spider man one I feel like the fact he gave her plenty of warning that he wanted it at a certain time indicates he DOES know how to share, better than the sister does. This is the line he should have taken with his Mum.

His sister should be grateful he lets her play it at all, I honestly think it'd be completely fair if he didn't want her to play on it. He bought it, it's his property, he's the only one who should get a say. Yes he could still be grounded from it as he's 16, but that doesn't mean letting other people play on it.

The AH in the Banana cupcake story was Mom. And here's why. The way her child reacted when he noticed there were no more, told me that Mom has catered to his every desire since day one, and he's never been on the receiving end of a consequence. Her response should have been to stop that crying, screaming BS and taking him out of the shop. My mother taught me that I wasn't the center of the universe, and if I wanted something I would do what it took to get it. ❤ Love you both working together ❣️
@waffles3629
@waffles3629 Год назад
Yep. It sounds just like one of my swim lesson kids. She had to be the center of attention, and if she wasn't, even for a second, she *made* herself the center of attention BY DROWNING!!! I rescued her at least 20 times in a 30 minute group lesson. The rest of the kids got about one minute each with me, she got the other 25. She then proceeded to go to my boss and demand I be fired "for barely spending any time with my kid". Karen, I spent half the lesson holding your child. And the kid knew what she was doing, every time I rescued her she came up with a smirk on her face. I felt bad for the kid, she was only 7 and thought the world revolved around her. Because in a way it did. She'd clearly never been told no.
@xxkittyxxkatxx-ts8zs
@xxkittyxxkatxx-ts8zs Год назад
The reaction of the kid might not be the mother's fault, the way she handled it however is. Kids breakdown even as teenagers over stupid things, at least stupid to adults. The reaction you have that breakdown is what teaches them how to go forward. This is entirely entitled parent syndrome, I don't want to deal with a screaming child so you should give it what it wants.
@Dyejob01
@Dyejob01 Год назад
WOW, the Brother is NOT the AH for 2 reasons: 1) It's his game system and cartridge. He bought it with HIS money. 2) He was generous enough to let his sister use it in the first place, but then was also aware enough to give her ample time checks. "Hey I need you off in 45 minutes..." both nights. That sister is an AH, and Mom is wrong for taking her side. I think his statement to Mom was 100% on the mark, though it was blunt, he is right. She has no authority over the use of HIS game.

The fact that he still let his sister use it is key to me. If he did not let anyone play at all, I would say he is the AH even if he technically had a right to do whether he wants with his own property. But he did share, he just said he wants to play himself at a certain moment and he gave plenty of warming. Also, the mother grounding him from using the PS and letting the sister play during that time is not right. If anything, nobody should get to play while OP is grounded.

So I have 1 son, our house was where l the kids played, hungout. Bc he was only child I made him share his toys when kids were over to play (thinking kids need to learn to share). He’s grown now and has told me how he hated sharing his toys bc he was very responsible and respectful keeping care with his things and he would share as I made him but they often broke and even took things. I had no idea these kids were stealing from my son, having things get broken sometimes happens but he has always been that careful person even as an adult he takes very good care of things (erector sets , Pokémon, game systems not just matchbox cars, outside toys) Was I right to make him share? Knowing now that things were taken and more broken than I had clue I feel bad…

@@janiceh4521 I don’t think you were wrong to make him share, but I do wonder why he did not tell you at the time that other children were breaking and/or stealing his toys? Sharing is one thing, but others also have to respect our things.

Banana cupcake story: That was a great opportunity for mum to teach her child how we can't always have what we want and redirect them to another option. Indulging her child's response might mean they struggle with emotional control later in life. It's okay for kiddo to be upset and their feelings are valid but even if we are disappointed, it doesn't mean we should get something over someone else.

The AITA about sharing drove me nuts! Birthdays are the only times my kids get solo gifts, bar rewards which they earn themselves. They are 2, 4 and 5 and EVERY ONE OF THEM knows that if it isn't yours, and you don't have permission, you leave it. And when the owner asks for it back (We encorage giving warning, which OP did) we give it back, because it is not yours. It's done as a way to drive home an extention on concent importance. I have never done the "Oh, my kid wants something of mine so I'm going to give it" so they know when they ask, they're likely getting a no. They appreciate being offered and don't just expect something that isn't theirs. The boys are neurodivergent (Possibly the daughter too but she's mild so apparently only I care...) so I feel like it is extra important for them. In high-school there was a lot of people just invading space, touching and taking peoples things and since I had 0 space/boundaries or privacy at home I thought it was normal, and I was somehow stupid for feeling violated. I never want that for my kids. Idk what the heck was wrong with the mother in the story. The OP gave so much warning. If all 3 of my littles can process "We come off at 5pm" for screens, and a "Finish what you're doing and come off screens" at 4:45pm, surely teens and adults can process that when the property isn't even theirs?

Mix that with my mother being the kind of person who cannot be wrong. I am fortunate I loved the field of psychology and took myself to counseling starting age 18. I got a masters degree in speech pathology. Mix that with not having children until I was in my 30s, I did not repeat the same mistakes as my parents. Great vid. My dad was a police dog handler for most of my life. So we grew up with the same understanding of dogs that you taught your littles. However, the police had a tent at local county shows (weird that London areas had county shows now I think about it). I’m the tent were the fast cars and motorbikes that the kids were allowed to sit in/on, the police horses and dogs. Yes, they are trained track & attack dogs, but they are also family dogs and really are comfortable around littles. Oh my god. I’ve just realised my dad used us kids to train his freaking dogs, i mean beyond hiding us in garbage bins for them to find us. He used us to teach the dogs to be good with Kids!!! Im 50 & that’s only just dawned on me. Holy mother of a cow!!! Anyway, the dogs had to be trained to be good with other peoples womb fruit because they are often in crowded areas and not all people understand to ask. My dad had a side hustle using the dogs to help people overcome their fear of dogs. We have a rescue who is super anxious around strange dogs on walks. So we are very careful with him when other dogs walking the kids approach us. We move to the side of the footpath, doggo sits, we stand in front and get his focus completely on us. We also have a yellow ‘anxious rescue’ lead. But it’s amazing how many dog owners don’t know the significance of neon yellow and orange leads. That’s got worse since people have got first dogs during the lockdowns. But im totally with the last person being a ‘not asshat’. The mother shouldn’t have made a decision like that when it’s not her dog in the first place, but to be fair, she may not understand the dog as well as the dog mama. Keeping other people/animals at a safe distance from your dog is protecting and being mindful of your dogs wellbeing. That comes first over the happiness of a strangers kid. Sorry, not sorry. ❤

I was 18 the first time i went overseas, but the difference was my mom would try and take me places when i was younger, whether it was walking to the library or grocery store. This mom sounds like she wants her kid to stay dependant on her, because otherwise she would have offered to take them on a family trip that's similar to the place they want to go to, like go to the Smithsonian and take the metro to get there. Telling an adult not to go will either result in resentment or run away like this kid was preparing to do. The flat out refusal to not listen to the kid's feelings is what they did wrong, his reaction wouldn't have been so bad if they took the time to listen. My mom was still terrified id get lost but she didn't let that fear stop me from having an experience. And because i was used to finding my way i was able to lead my group back to the meeting point even though it wasn't the same route we came from. You cant stop kids from having experiences, you can only prepare them.

Not overseas, but I went on a trip with a friend when I was 18. When I told my parents they said I couldn't go. Like I wasn't asking for permission, I was informing you I would be gone. They then pulled their "Trump card" of refusing to drive me to the airport so it's not like I could go anyway. As if they were the only way for me to get anywhere. Like oh, don't worry about it, I'm spending the night at his parents house and his dad is taking us to the airport in the morning. Best trip of my life. The only place I got "lost" was the grocery store there because they didn't label the aisles.

I find it concerning that his reasoning is "the baby won't remember!" Like... okay? The baby still needs to be fed and watched and changed and held. You are still a father to that baby. It doesn't matter if the baby won't remember. It's giving big red flags that this is another "father" who only acknowledges his kids when they're old enough for HIM to have FUN with. And before that point it's all mommy's responsibility.

I LOVE this mocktail show idea. I mean first, I am 3 weeks postpartum and nursing and love the mocktail inspiration and didn't know how much I needed this lol but second, I LOVE your interactions and discussions.

I hope that my mom gets to the Mocktail stage soon-ish. She is new to sobriety, and I would like to see what she's like working the program. I like a fancy drink and I am drinking for 2, so Mocktails are nice. No rush, obviously. I had a lemon Mocktail earlier today with paprika and cinnamon for the kick.

Oooh! Sounds yummy! You could also totally freeze watermelon chunks or mango chunks and then blend them up with lime juice and a salted rim for a faux frozen marg

Loved this! You two have such a great relationship. :) Now, for the AITA with the kid who wants to travel…the missing piece IMO, is he still in high school? I’m not wild about his current situation, as every kid needs to learn to make decisions in a safe environment. My friend and I were just talking about how young/old seniors in high school can be based on cut off years.

I've said it before but I have to say it again!! I very much admire the way you parent!!! The relationship you and Abby have is amazing and I can relate, I am very close with my mother and her parenting style was identical to yours. I've never been afraid to go to my mom with anything no matter how scared I was about it or if I had done something I shouldn't have. She ALWAYS made it very clear that I could come to her with anything even if I was in the wrong and her reassuring me of stuff like that just made us closer.

I don't even have kids and probably never will, but I live long distance from my parents who I love a ton and find your mother-daughter content so cute and refreshing. I don't know anything about parenting, but you seem like such a good mom. I can so see your kids having the same relationship with you as adults as I have with my own mom: I"d move the earth for her
