It's actually nonsense. Superman acts the way he does as Kent to make it seem utterly ridiculous he could ever be considered Superman. He does it to appear weak and clumsy so nobody would ever believe that man, thst bumbling buffoon, could ever be Superman.
Well, no. It bypasses the whole thing with Superman being raised by humans. Superman didn't grow up in a small town literally called "Smallville" and made it through his adolescent life without pulverizing said small town just to have his own personal joke of a critique of humanity. He lived being Clark Kent, he felt like Clark Kent. He felt he *should* be Superman, for himself and for others, because he knew he could be. It's meant to be inspirational that he was raised a country bumpkin, rose above it due to his limitless potential, but still carries his upbringing with him.
@@JarmamStuff Yeah, for the broader point Bill wants to make, Batman would be a much better example. But Batman also is obviously psychologically damaged and not as "above" humanity as Bill considers himself and Beatrix to be, so he goes with Superman instead.
Peter Parker is actually a disguise as well. Once he becomes Spider-Man his real identity is Spider-Man. He uses Peter Parker as a way to distract everyone from the fact that he is Spider-Man. This is different from Bruce Wayne and Batman. Bruce has to use the suit and the fancy gadgets to become Batman. He is not inherently Batman, he is inherently Bruce Wayne unlike Peter Parker turned Spider-Man. So superman does not standalone in “donning a costume.”
You are missing the point. His alter ego is a regular person but He is an alien from krypton not a human from Earth. He was raised by loving human partents which sculpted how he behaved but the point still remains that he was born to do great and powerful things. Clark Kent is the disguise he wears to blend in where as most other heroes wear a suit to stand out.
What makes him Superman though is what I stated in the original comment. No kryptonian has any superhuman power while they are on their Homeworld before it is destroyed. Kryptonians have to come to our solar system to bathe in the suns rays in order to become superheroes/villians. He was not born Superman. He was born Kal’El. I’m a Marvel fan that barely studies anything DC related and at least I know that lol
Clark as the mask and Superman as the mask have both been explored a lot, by both comic writers and film producers. I think a lot of people think Bill's interpretation of Superman is Quentin's interpretation of Superman and just go *fart noise* you got Superman WRONG lmao
Does the movie ever offer an alternative to this Superman take? Not even necessarily explicitly, even a thematic or indirect counter example in the movie to go against this narrative would be enough. But if this is kind of as far is this thought exploration goes, yeah I think it’s not unfair to be put off by it
After all these years I still can't tell if this is how Tarantino interpreted Superman, or how he wrote Bill as interpreting him. Because the take is complete bullshit and tells alot about Bill's character in how he misread the comic his whole life. I really couldn't cope with Tarantino misunderstanding Superman that much...
Tarantino films are for highschoolers and freshman college kids. He's sophomoric at best. All his films are just homages or shot for shot remakes of French and Hong Kong films, just with his aggrandizing yet mundane dialogue padding out half the run time.
It’s great dialogue and all and a fun thought that Clark Kent is Superman’s critique of humanity… but it doesn’t hold water. For Superman’s disguise to work, he had to be significantly different than Superman. If Clark Kent was brave, confident, strong, everyone would immediately realize Clark Kent = Superman. It’s why Bruce Wayne pretends to be a vapid pratish playboy. Because it similarly would help throw people off from suspecting him as Batman.
This is what happened to me at the Office Lounge... trying to use me as a scapegoat to cover their moves...so not taking this and putting a jacket on someone who cannot lie due to whatever reason I take issues with as you could have just not let around... same thing you did to me when I was younger not allowing me at parties, this, that and other things due to my medical condition
People criticize bills assumption is about Superman and Clark Kent, but I think it fits well with Bills character. Bills nature is that he’s a killer, but he likes to pretend that he’s a loving person to the right people (mostly family). However he is right about Kiddo, kiddo’s nature is a killer just like him, however as soon as she realized she had a child she realized that there’s more to life than this and it’s to protect her child at all cost. Bill is the same in that regard, but instead of turning his daughter away, he sort of supports it with the fish story, and when we see them both they are playing with toys guns and talking about death and the child is watching violent movies. As much as bill wants to show Kiddo that he would’ve been a good father in the end he would’ve turned his own daughter into a killer just like him, Kiddo was right just as much as he was right about her.
