Imagine The Batman sequel had killer moth as the villian who would have basically had the same tragic backstory as Batman only he never had wealth, meaning he had to find his own way to survive off of scraps until he decided to make a name for himself selling weapons to try fill in the penguins role
I love how Teen Titans basically said "Screw It" and just made him a mad scientist/single dad. Like Bro is a completely different character and it was hilarious.
Maybe have a one shot where killer moth is finally able to pull off a big scheme and everything goes right and when he is caught the cops and the bat family wonder how he was able to come off as an actual threat this time, and it will end with killer moth smiling after hearing that
How the fuck can you forget Batman: Gotham Nights #7? The story where you see flashbacks of a young Batman facing Killer Moth in his prime. Every trick that Killer Moth used to escape or best Batman during every fight only influenced Batman more. Moth became his inspiration. Years later, Batman runs into him again trying to flee. Eventually Moth is caught, but he shows respect to his foe. He even says (to the now-older Moth which he caught, trying to pull of one last crime before retirement) that Killer Moth's costume is awesome.
Damn right. *"Unplanned Obsolescence"* is one of my favorite Gotham Nights stories... "I can't imagine that's how he wanted to go..." "Wearing that costume?" "No, shot dead by a night watchman. The costume's awesome." Killer Moth has also been having a pretty big role recently in *"The Joker: The Man who Stopped Laughing"* , we're 11 issues in and he makes a pretty funny duo with the Joker.
Killer Moth was apparently created as a vigilante counterpart to Batman a vigilante who helps villains instead of the cops which would be used multiple times in the future with characters like Wraith or Prometheus. Ive always loved how much Kite Man Killer Moth's determination to be taken seriously is an admirable aspect of the character I also love the idea of the Misfits being a team of D-list Batman villains teaming up with Killer Moth, they should really bring that team back in the current continuity
@@ulyssesveracruz8343 Kind of yeah, though I do think The Flash already has a team like that called The Rogues made out of some of his villains, which I do prefer personally
I think it would be a cool if a handful of these d list villains teamed up. But they only team up because they don’t like all of the killings and murder that is happening in the newer comics and opt out for older style heists. Like some kind of glory days team
Killer Moth was in the 2004 The Batman. They did have him transform into the giant moth monster, but still kept the dorky, awkward personality. The guy really can't catch a break ANYWHERE
I like his portrayal in the Teen Titans show. He looks cool and menacing there (for a mutant moth scientist) while also being so much more competent and a threat to the team. He also has a spoiled human daughter who wants to date Robin and makes Starfire super jealous. He just called and threatened the Titans that he will destroy the city unless Robin takes his daughter to prom, lol. I like that episode.
First time I was introduced to him was LEGO Batman: the video game and yeah I agree he’s is criminally underrated and deserves to be written better. If Polka-dot man & The Spot can be written into more dangerous and better villains then I see no reason Killer Moth can have the same.
I’m calling it now killer motions gonna get the spit treatment and be the main villain in a Batman movie one of these days. And if it never happens I shall dedicate my life to making a Batman movie where Batman dies to killer moth because no one can stop me
I love how he’s basically the exact opposite of Batman. He’s just some dude, who’s trying to get by and pay his rent, whilst the world at large disregards him. Which makes him surprisingly relatable when you really think about it.
Killer Moth is a truly tragic comic book villain he was created in 1951(the tail end of the Golden Age) was the very first anti-Batman villain ever made and was originally taken not only seriously but also as a cunning and challenging treat to Batman and Robin it’s since the Silver Age that he became the joke that he is today
I love Killer Moth's character design so much, It's such a cool outfit and I hate when they try to make him dorky to the point where it's impossible to take him seriously or try to "modernise" him in a way that takes away from his character. He's perfectly capable, in his first appearance he nearly bested Batman & Robin and then proceeded to seemingly die after nearly being caught, but he's also this dorky fan of Batman in a bright purple costume that drives a car with his face on it.
Not exactly a 100% my idea but I want Killer Moth to get The Spot treatment from ATSV. Having him start off as the laughable villain that no one takes seriously and slowly transform into the dread of Gotham could be an awesome thing to experience as an audience. One idea that is mine though is that in this scenario, as Killer Moth becomes more deadly, he would eventually become/adopt the persona of Prometheus. The transformation of "the moth to the flame" to the bringer of fire itself could be a cool element that would add to his transition into the more sinister and powerful.
there actully an episode on an forgotten batman tv show called the batman (it pretty good) were moth works as an getaway driver for the penguin, but then becomes more deadly it pretty good, since it combine both moth old design with the monster design
This dudes been one of my favorites since I was a kid. I always hated the fact that the Lego games made him out to be more of a bigger villain than he actually is.
After the Joker War, Bats decided he needed all the help he could get, enlisting Harley Quinn, Ghostmaker, Clownhunter, etc.. You’d think he’d offer Killer Moth a chance at something different, see if he’s good at being good, even if it wouldn’t last. Speaking of KM, I think my first exposure to him was also Lego Batman or 2004’s The Batman TV show. Remember that?
Killer Moth actually has a pretty big role currently in *Joker: The Man who Stopped Laughing* ... we're 11 issues in right now, and Killer Moth makes a good duo with Joker.
@@camerondodge2070 - Oof, sorry I'm one month late to answer your question, but I wasn't notified for some reason! I'd say give it a shot if you enjoyed the 2021/2022 "The Joker" miniseries (15 issues long by James Tynion IV), since *The Man who Stopped Laughing* is a direct sequel. If you're intrigued by the whole "3 Jokers" subplot, then it's the kind of title that you'll enjoy, and since it bled out into the main *"Batman"* title it's one of those miniseries that are important if you're a completionist. Although, if we're talking pure quality, and if we don't care about official main DC canon, there is a _DC Black Label_ Joker-oriented title that was ,IMHO, much better and published at the same time called *Batman & the Joker: Deadly Duo* (7 issues long by Marc Silvestri).
i feel like Killer Moth is getting a lot of love from fans recently, always nice to see. and now he's even gotten recognition from a big comic channel. perhaps one day DC will finally realize his greatness. love your videos man
You know when I first read about Killer Moth, I was thinking: Yeah he sucks as a villain, but I wonder if he would make a good hero or anti-hero. He could join up with the Suicide Squad or even reinvent himself as a hero. I guess I just don't like the idea of kicking someone while they're down.
Something else about Killer Moth, when Booster Gold travels back in time and disguises himself as Killer Moth beats up Batman then puts Killer Moth back in his suit, in the far future Killer Moth ends up becoming a professional Anti-Batman with a blimp and signal. So i guess all he really needed was a confidence boost?
I’ve always liked Killer Moth’s design, even if it is a bit gaudy. I think having such a flashy color scheme also works for the whole “anti-Batman” angle. I also just really like the mask.
YOOOOO KILLER MOTH SQUAD LETS FREAKING GOOOOOOO in all seriousness, I think Killer Moth is the best version of the "Batman but eeEEEeevil" gimmick that has been done to death (Hush, Prometheus, Wrath, etc.) The concept of him being "the guardian of Gotham's criminal world" is pretty underexplored and really cool in a Moriarty kinda way. His mere existence pathologizes the villains of Gotham in a way that makes them worthy of *needing* a protector, even if he's totally inept at his job.
So, he's _literally_ the opposite of Batman: Villain, incompetent, not very scary or dangerous and disrespected by everyone. ...Wait, how the hell did he know that Batman was secretly a billionaire with a cave hideout? Was all that just a coincident?
He made it based of rumors he heard about batman, and later he was also the first supervillain to find out batmans identity... And immiedietly forget it tue to getting bonked on the head
there’s not a “I can fix him” fanfic of him, but over on a website called flickr there’s a ongoing comic series called “moth stories” but a user literally named killer moth, it’s quite good. It also uses lego as photography for it
My introduction to the character was in The Batman 2003 where he got introduced as one of the guys Penguin recruited to his squad of villains to pull off a heist (though it's openly established that the others don't take him seriously). During the heist, Killer Moth gets exposed to chemicals that mutate him into a giant moth creature which ironically makes him the most powerful villain in the group (which is saying something as Killer Croc was in the group as well). The episode ended with them all getting arrested and (from what I remember) this was his one and only appearance in the entire series. 😥
Respect for using the Arkham Asylum render of him in the thumbnail. I think that’s the coolest looking Killer Moth design that still kinda has that neon palate.
His depiction in the Teen Titans cartoon as a father who spoils his bratty daughter while simultaneously wanting to wreak havoc on the world is just perfect. Lmao
Alright but the idea that this guy takes a bunch of the spoils from the criminals Batman defeats means he's actually one of the more effective not-super villains. The guy manages to get away with stolen money and nobody notices, because he's just in the background. (Also the city should be thankful, cleaning up the money that goes all over the place after some of these heists would drive someone to insanity)
One side note i find kinda interesting is his bio has him at the exact same height and weight as batman. So hes actually pretty physically imposing for a goof ball
I love Killer Moth, but I absolutely love The Clock king who is such an underrated villain is by design and he is a Green Arrow villain not Batman instead of a joke villain The Clock King could've been one of Green Arrows archenemies due to Green Arrow not having a lot of villains.
I personally really wish his Teen Titans Incarnation had become his official one because honestly, after Slade. Killer Moth is legitimately my favorite reoccurring villain of The Show. Hes legitimately awesome
"What's the point of living if you're never going to be happy?" I ask myself that question at least once or twice every single day. No answer forthcoming.
Okay, so Killer Moth technically never did turn back into a human. At the end of Underworld Unleashed, all of Neron's deals were supposed to be reversed as he was defeated, but for some reason they left Killer Moth as Charaxes. Eventually he was killed, along with many others, by Superboy Prime in Infinite Crisis. He was impersonated by Booster Gold for a bit, but only came back due to the New 52, where he got it real rough. At one point the Atom shrank down, went into Killer Moth's head, and grew inside his head just to torture the dude. It doesn't go away either, because he later shouts at Red Robin about the Atom and not wanting to be tortured again. It's awful. Edit: Misremembered my timeline, the torture happened pre-New 52 during Cry For Justice. I still hate that series.
@@ulyssesveracruz8343 Okay, so I misremembered my issues, the torture was pre-New 52. It was in Cry For Justice, Prometheus had hired Killer Moth to kidnap someone close to one of Atom's allies, so both Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi went after Moth. Palmer then did the shrink and grow torture to get info about Prometheus out of Killer Moth.
@@ulyssesveracruz8343 After that they rebooted the universe before he had another appearance. At this point there's been three or four reboots since that comic, so I have no clue whether it's canon or not.
Didn't Barbara admit that she had a crush on him early on in her career? I don't remember what issue this is from exactly, but she was telling it to Huntress, if I recall correctly.
Indeed, that was in Gail Simone's *Birds of Prey* run. Batgirl had a weird crush on him because of his voice... but I think she told it to Black Canary? Been a long time...
Killer Moth is the perfect character to be a sort of MCU Vulture character. A Villain who takes the left over scraps and uses them to fuel his anti-batman deeds
I like the idea of Killer Moth being motivated by the fact everyone treats him as a loser. I think he'd be perfect for Matt Reeves' Batman sequel, as he could be shown to be treated as a joke, but goes much further and potentially get abilities like controlling bugs or something, and gets to the point where he becomes a threat, all because nobody respected him and that's all he wanted in life. To be remembered.
0:20 that's funny, it's exactly how I was introduced to the character too. It's really nice to see him again after all these years and just brings so much good memories back to my head. Thank you, and I hope your channel and your work grow stronger every day.
Honestly I think killer moth should become a hero he wants to be great and as you said he does not have the right parts to be a killer so why not try begin a hero?
I remember post-crisis there was an issue of Detective Comics (I think 566) where Batman briefs Jason Todd on all of the biggest threats in his rogues gallery. I was stunned seeing Killer Moth on the list. In 1986, Killer Moth was a significant Batman villain, when nowadays he’s barely mentioned.
This actually answers aome of my questions like Anyone picks up those flying notes? So did any small timers sneak in after the main bad guy is fighting or got caught? So those loot that the bad guy throw out of the vehicle is free for all or?
