sry, but meh. (I know y'all going to hate me...). Look, the drums are uninteresting- listen to "Complications" or perhaps the entire album "What's THIS for ?"... this is like a wind up toy, very predictable and frankly, boring. Is this really a "new" KJ album ? (throughout 80s-90s each album had an innovative edge, "Pandemonium" and "Democracy" lyrically gifted advances for the band, but it's been disappointing since. moving on....)

yeah, I was impressed with that and moreso how Jaz used used the money I gave him buying their albums and attending their concerts. not into classical at all here but to each his/her own

His classical stuff is a bit too light for me, as I prefer the likes of Stravinsky or Rachmaninoff, but it's been worth every penny spent to keep Killing Jokes Genius alive this long. ;)

I was listening to The Calling and some tracks off Outside The Gate. It's the great precursor of Jaz and Geordie steering toward to Extremities. Killing Joke has raw power and grace with contradiction, polarity, tension... all thrown together in a manner that is precise but also chaotic. It's something to create 15 albums and have the ideas behind the music come along, develop and yes I think live beyond the creators.

It's really simple harmonically, but it sure as hell works!

Yeah, and I just got a listen to Total tonight and it’s very good- I actually prefer it to LoC. Of course, I always love when the chorus of the song is just Jaz screaming the title. My friend used to always joke around about that whenever I told him the title of a new KJ song and, well, once again he would not be wrong.

A Rush and Killing Joke fan. Rush always warned about the precarious nature of individualism and the priests.

@@TheJosep70 That's why I love Pearts observations, he embraced a great deal, even though later in life he denounced his earlier influences. It still remains a constant with his writings - the dangers of an over grasping minority state over the many individuals. For me KJ and Rush are saying the same thing very very differently.

Well said, I'd have not made in out of Manhattan without Absolute Dissent. Nighttime got me before all this as did New Cold War. I formerly study Geopolitics and Economic History, you don't see a band know the Artic is the great war theater just at random. Cerebral and spiritual with enough righteous anger to match the crimes. But I think there's a great awakening, something changed, collective spirit. I find, Outside the Gate prophetic often. The Calling's lyrics are this very moment now. Prophetic and sublimely comforting. an excerpt "I hear the calling calling the faithful to find themselves do not trust the beggars who expose their poverty of spirit Arise, arise, stand upright and take pride in who and what you are, great changes are coming and *you will be asked to identify yourself* "

Now it's 5 days or weeks later with Jaz...ahaha (I'm laughing because you can't be afraid if you're laughing, right?!). Complex Systems failure as term in this song and by synchronicity one I've used a lot in my own lifetime work on long-term history especially of world level economics and the development/decline of civilizations...funny to hear Jaz say it as I think about it, actually a bit alarming. This apparently orderly reality for so long claimed to be "too big to fail" essentially... is doing just that and it's felt by us all even when verifiable data is scarce. Sorry to ramble, glad to converse with long time fans as KJ really shot up my list in the last 3 or so years, though I had a chance to see Paul Raven among his last live appearances in New York wish I had appreciated it much more. I have a lot of hope we're going to survive this thing, perhaps more mature as a species. Sometimes it's disheartening. Sometimes there are good days too. Nice to hear you passed on the Joke to your son. There is no more important mission than transmission of our life experiences and skills to those who come behind us.
