I have to say that I am not a huge fan of Kim but she presented a strong argument in front of two politicians and a seasoned journalist/presenter/editor. She did well. Her previous outbursts have tainted her reputation and I honestly thought she was going to explode here but she kept her dignity.
Perhaps, but she was the Prime Minister. She led the damn country. A state funeral for someone who served in the highest office in the land is par for course. To have a non-state funeral for someone who led the country for over a decade would look pretty embarrassing for the UK. As if the country couldn’t even afford to give one of its former leaders a dignified public burial. Also, the “£10 million” that was supposedly spent on it is hardly a lot of money all things considered.

I cannot understand what on earth possessed some people to protest at Maggie's funeral. What did they think they were going to achieve? A protest is something you do when there is a possibility you can change someones actions. How exactly is protesting at someone's funeral going to affect that person? But of course, they have to call it a protest because saying that they are going to Maggie's funeral so they can sulk for a few hours doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
A lot of people protested because they had their lives ruined by her and didn't want her funeral to be paid for by the taxpayer. Quite right too, it was a fucking liberty.

Wouldn't that became suppression of free speech? We have all the rights to criticize someone regardless of if they are alive or dead. She is a public figure that hold cabinet positions, she caused many problems for some people, they have the rights to speak when she lived or die.

Check out the Westboro baptist church who would also picket funerals of dead soldiers. They would cheer that someones son had died and dance in front of them. They won every court case against the poor families who were heartbroken that their children's military funerals were sullied by people who believed that they shouldn't go to war. They won every court case because they were allowed free speech. However, doing this and watching people do this just shows how filled with hate and venom some people become. By all means say "Im glad she's dead" but then just ignore the funeral and get on with your life.
It's called having RESPECT. You respect others so that when a politician that you supported dies, their political opponents will show the same respect for them that you showed for their party representative/politician. Very very simple. It's a patter of RECIPROCITY. GOOD MANNERS.

The protesters weren’t singing “Ding dong” but merely turning their back. It was a ‘respectful’ protest that correctly respected those wanting to pay their respects to Mrs Thatcher whilst giving those who loathed her their freedom to protest.
I hate Donnie Trump with nearly EVERY fiber of my being, but I would NEVER protest his funeral. Someone has died, a life is gone, albeit a good life or a bad life, if you can't respect then do nothing at all.
I hated Thatcher. And before you all say anything else, yes, I'm an American, but I lived in the UK from 1984-1987, under Thatcher's premiership. I hated that she was unflinching (and anti-union) when it came to the coal miners strike, and I wasn't altogether thrilled she survived the Brighton Hotel bombing either. There were other things I disliked about her as well, but I won't cover them all (*ahem, she didn't like homosexuals, there I've said it and made HUGE cuts to higher education funding). However, Kim makes a good point: a funeral is a funeral, and if you want to make a political point by turning your back that's one thing, but to go and chant hateful things and carry banners with hate slogans on them is quite another. Some respect should be observed. However, I think it's also pertinent to remember that many people didn't agree with her politically, and since the UK is a democracy, they can't stop anyone from expressing themselves either. It's all up to the individual how they choose to go about it.

If you don't like someone make your point when they are alive face them with how you feel or keep away from them, but when they are dead it's pointless all you are doing is causing trouble at a time when nobody wants to hear your protest least of all the family of the deceased.

I agree with Jacqui - turning your back was an understated way of showing protest. What Kim is failing to grasp is that this was a PUBLIC SPECTACLE and was not a funeral, but a PUBLIC CEREMONY. If protesters had stormed the PRIVATE FAMILY CEREMONY that occurred later, I would agree with Kim, but a public protest at a public event in a way that did not spoil the enjoyment of those who wished to pay their respects was perfectly harmless

@@paulsurbitonryan9632 It was not Thatcher’s funeral. It was a public ceremony. Her funeral was several days later and held in private. This was a public display in public spaces and therefore was (and quite rightly in my opinion) in a space where (respectful) public protest could take place, alongside public marks of respect. Would *I* have turned my back on her coffin? No. Do I think people should allowed to have peacefully and respectfully shown their distaste for who was ultimately a very divisive figure? Yes.
It is - the term Witch was created to kill women who did not conform to the expectations of the male dominated society of the time. Calling her a witch and celebrating her death is entirely misogynistic.
Jim Bob wrong, her death being celebrated has nothing do with her gender but more to do with the destruction of communities many of which are still are feeling the effects of Thatcherite politics today. They weren’t celebrating just for the sake it, they were completely justified.

Do you honestly believe there would still be large coal mining communities in this day and age? The only reason they still existed during thatchers time is because the coal industry was propped up by the government while the fear of Union strikes kept the government in a stranglehold. Widespread coal mining is/was unsustainable in a western country l, caused large amounts of pollution, and needed to go. You can’t just keep throwing taxpayer money at an industry that doesn’t return it’s worth to the country.
A lot of things are paid for by the public against their will - 18 billion pounds was wasted on ID cards that never got made. Having a send off for someone who was the first female British prime minister (and the first female leader of a large western country) and the longest serving PM at the time is as good a waste of money as some of the other crap that gets done.
