I've said it before and I'll say it again: -All the important facts and figures on every aspect of her remit -Straight answers across the board -Sincerity and openness -Respectful and happy to take criticism on the chin and even rebut without being rude. What a politician. No matter what side of the fence you're on, you can't deny that this is how all politicians should conduct themselves in any scenario presented to them. It's really quite a simple formula when you see it in practise- Know your stuff, be honest, be professional, respect others, stand by your convictions.
She was a liar who mislead the British public about her governments support for Chilean dictator and mass murderer Pinochet. She lied to cover up Pinochet's appalling reign of terror, rape, abduction and murder in order to sell him arms that were used against his country's population. This was only the tip of the iceberg of the perversion, psychopathy and dishonesty of this vile woman, but it perfectly illustrates her hypocrisy and absolute lack of morals.
Yes - she was marvellous throughout her career, in terms of staying thoroughly briefed. (I lived through the Thatcher era and) She did get a bit too 'grand' in the latter days of her administration. Power corrupted her own sense of importance, eventually. But she was a wonderful woman, and a consequential PM. Much better than Churchill (he was a terrible MP and stupid minister throughout most of his career - apart from his exemplary leadership of the war cabinet from May '40 to July '45).
I must admit I know very little of Thatcher, but she seems highly skilled at speaking at any speed, and this was way before the RU-vid speed setting was invented. Here she is showing off her temperate slow motion, never overdoing it.

Despite what people may think, I think she was a nice kind woman who had the nations best interests at heart, I was born in 1988 and I stand by what she said. We need more people like her in power today.

Dunnlrs How can you say that - she could talk a good talk but she didn't walk a good walk. She went full speed ahead with that war without even considering peace talks first. She demanded same tax on the poor as on the rich. She spoke against evil yet it appears she caused allot of chaos (pain & suffering) to happen. Maybe she could make the little decisions ok but when it came to major things like war or taxes she made the wrong moves.

Inspirational Videos I am old enough to remember that the lowest tax back in 1979 was 37.5% and the highest was about 80% which lead to the brain drain. Thatcher brought down basic income tax to 25%. I remember that interest rates were on average 15%. After Thatcher this had fallen to 8%, still high but half of what it was before. I Remember inflation being 26% which lead to the winter of discontent where rubbish was not being collected, the dead were not buried, power cuts and the army having to step in to run basic services. I Remember in 1979 that 65% of the population lived in rented property or in council houses. Today it is the opposite. I remember 1979 that shares and bonds were only reserved for the rich. Today anyone is able to purchase shares. I remember in 1984 that the government subsidies for a miner was £100,000 per year to keep an unsustainable industry working. I agree that Thatcher was hard on communities, but at the time the country which had a culture of living and being dependent on handouts needed someone who was hard. Today there are more people who run their small businesses ranging from painting decorating to IT specialists. Back then before Thatcher this would have been unimaginable. Before Thatcher the UK was the most regulated country in the West, for example even furniture removal companies (such as Abels) were in public ownership. Britain had to be bailed out by the world bank (a bit like Greece) in 1976, the country was bust. Thatcher changed that. Falkland war?? The UK (Falkands) was attacked, she did what the vast majority in the country agreed with, that’s why she had a landslide victory. She will go down as marmite but she had an major influence on the UK and put the country that was over taxed, over regulated and strangling itself back on the world map.
If she was that great, then how come her death was celebrated in former mining communities? How come the miners hated her so much? Explain THAT one, fucking Einstein!
Something so refreshing is seeing a politician who was entirely principled, regardless of the position they held. Here she's in education and absolutely holds her ground and refuses to dance around issues or pander to her audience. "I want you to fix this particular school." "We shall not. There are schools in worse shape and we're dealing with them first." "You should give free lunch to everybody." Certainly not." "We can afford all the things." "No, we can not."
A very highly intelligent lady with a lot of respect for everyone. I think she has a strong charisma and personality. Very sure and direct with the answers. An absolute pleasure to listen to.

Thatcher is such a brilliant, confident and well-mannered woman. You can predict her greatness not only by what she says, but her ways of coping with the pressures of opinions, her confidence in asserting her positions and her consistent calmness and stability.
Maybe that horrible, rude one was the only one who saw it coming and so took a last stand for "free everything" from the state, and in defence of "incompetent parents with too many children who can't fill out forms" all around the UK. I am 52 now so I grew up during the Thatcher years.. Looking back now it was tough but she was tough and took no shit from no one....she was spot on with European Union and the central bank she warned everyone and I am sure BREXIT would have been sorted a lot sooner
In reply to both of these comments, I have only realised how influential this woman is, I see all the Conservative members making grand speeches about her legacy. It saddens me how they are just what she didn’t want, far too much government control and no strong beliefs in ur or ur parties beliefs. She was and is influential for a reason. The EU. The Individual. The environment. Everyone must listen to her about the environment in the UN because it’s crazy her solutions are the ones scientists are saying today are the only effective ones, but we still haven’t done it! My parents were hardly involved with my education at all and I got the best marks out of all the boys in the school. My parents trusted me to get on with my work, and I did it out of a desire to do well myself. All the same, I’m not sure that growing up with no money is such an advantage. It’s astonishing how much inequality there is in this world.

It's like, how can you not love her. I love that she always has more to add. I remember always questioning the behaviours of those who danced on her grave when I was very young. Now the idea really upsets me.

Thankfully I am still experienced enough in life to know that the reason I appreciate her is exactly the same reason you don't.... because she is a fountain of information, and you're not. She, like capitalists in general are confident in their ability to do well in life and earn whatever comes as a result. Knowing you would never compare to her in this respect, or any other like minded peoples for that matter, renders you anti-success, which is the root of your anti-capitalist stance. People out there will do better than you if left to their own, and so, you don't want anyone to be left alone and able to make decisions for themselves. You beleive in a world where we all collectively regulate the situation so that those who actually create value aren't able to reap like-for-like benefits of it. You want to shit on a canvas and still be held in the same light as the Dutch masters, or the equivalent in whatever area/industry you're active in.
If only that gentleman who spoke so passionately about his concerns for his own secondary school could have shown just an ounce of courtesy towards the other equally passionate questioners who never got to ask their questions and no doubt were afterwards feeling quite resentful towards him for taking up everyone else's time. You could feel the frustration in the room when the questions were brought to a close. The host was extremely frustrated with him. They should have carried on with the remaining questions after the camera's switched off - it would have been useful to the questioners even if it was no aired to get their replies from the education minister surely.

She's not stating that they should get on well, she's just stating that they had an expectation and the performance had been below that expectation. You could lower the bar OR strive for better - she seems to be striving for better.

Unfortunately her obvious lack of intelligence causes her to be totally unaware as to what level of interruption is reasonable, what real world example is practical to use as a basis for policy questions, how confrontational to be, and how blatantly partisan to show herself to be....Just a complete miss - only tolerable if the watcher utterly despises Thatcher, otherwise most will say "steady on, stop bloody interrupting"
Fool, they needed people to have big families as those kids grow up to toe to be the next gen of workers. That's why now birthrate have dropped, boomers outweigh young gens and you cannot run the economy without enough young people. It's not the case of discouraging people, if you do that you need migrant workers which IS what happened!

If that movie "The Iron Lady" portrays her correctly at all then I can tell you 1 thing about her is that she could not put herself into the shoes of a poor person as she demanded that poor people pay the same amount of taxes as rich people. As a child at school in the 60s we had water fountains and water at the Dinner table, this woman is talking nonsense. I rember the liitle bottles of milk with straws carried into the classroom by the caretaker, not every child liked milk, I did but I didn't miss it when it stopped either because most children had milk on their breakfast at home. The point is children were not deprived of milk.
I find this very interesting. Even with an agenda broadly similar to Labour (Rene Short congratulated Mrs Thatcher on what was almost a socialist policy) she managed to stir up a lot of controversy. Was that because she was a Conservative? Was it because she was a woman? Was it because she was called Mrs Thatcher? If she had been called Mrs Brown, "Mrs Brown the Milk Snatcher" would not have worked. Perhaps she was not very good at politics? Perhaps she was overrated? Perhaps she had a lot of luck with the implosion of the Labour Party and that her luck abruptly ran out? What do others think? Perhaps the Conservative Party now has serious problems caused by learning the wrong lessons from history.
Hmm,, a man associated with Thomas Carlton School, thinks it's inappropriate that the government has prioritised OTHER schools for funding and redevelopment, and thinks exceptions should be made in his school's favour.....Why didn't the government immediately redirect funds to his school? Seems very unfair, especially seeing as he asked for it so persistently AND was very considerate of the other questioner's around him and the lack of time available to everyone.
It's difficult with economics. I feel her heart is in the right place and politics is so hard and budgets are allocated and peoples hands are tied. Its a stepping stone to excellence and I understand what she is saying. Let communities help themselves and if each individual gave a tiny piece of support either monetary or ability the schools would be mighty. Why wait for one representative of government to swing it. People power and power of the community within it. Stop blaming and start doing
She does have a very strong accent doesn't she? It's takes a bit of adjustment but more I listen more I realise why she is held in a certain high regard in Britain. She is very articulate and no nonsense and seems very able to get to a point instead of politicians tending to ay around and avoid answering questions. She looks quite good looking still here too. PM certainly seems to age the person who holds it. A decade later she is grey lol
