This video was promised 2 weeks ago, you finally get it today: my mompe DIY! I had so much fun sewing this and the outcome was a little satisfaction for me. Look out for my mompe outfits on Instagram!

Great video! Your series on hakama is has been fun and interesting. I wish I could find someone who sells them because I would wear that as everyday clothing with or without kimono. Keep up the good work!

Laura Virgin thank you so much ❤️ yeah, unfortunately mompe are barely sold, that’s also why I made one by myself. Even when you find one, they are too short etc. I had so much fun making this series. So I’m very happy that you liked it 💕

Thanks for the instructions! I should definitely make some monpe, they would make it easier to wear kimono without worrying about getting it dirty or having to move slowly. Karuta musubi would probably work well with these also, to keep the ties from messing up the obi.

Yes, exactly that is what mompe are for! Karuta musubi works really well, but also a small bunko bow worked really good. And o-taiko. ;)

Thank you so much for this video! Since I live on a farm in Germany I really wanna wear this "old style" Mompe on a daily basis. I also bought some old Homugi and Yukata because especially in Summertime I really like wearing Kimono.

I know this is late but clear thread would work for the bottom to avoid stitching showing on both colours. Or possibly have the cuff is a solid colour. Might of been suggested already so apologies if it has been!

For my mock up I tried finishing one of the legs with a cuff to hold the elastic, I think it worked pretty well. I didn't notice at first how Billy angles the pleats and made mine straight up and down, and between that, how close together I placed them and probably using very soft fabric made the crotch very diaper like, hopefully my next attempt will be more appealing like Billy's. :P If you try this, you should play with how deep and how far apart the pleats are, even changing them depending on if it's on the 'front' or the 'back' of the monpe to make a different silhouette. I don't have any good hints on how to do it, but I think these factors do make a difference in how they sit on your body.

Ich habe eine Frage zu Mompe. Kann man diese im Sommer über einen Yukata als Modeaccessoires tragen, oder ist eine Mompe eine reine Arbeitshose für Kimono? Das konnte ich leider nicht herausfinden. Denn dieses Schachbrett Mister reizt mich so, es nach zu nähen. 😅🤗

It's also called a sewing bird. You may be able to find one in a sewing notion catalog or an antique shop. It's usually used for hand sewing long straight seams.
