I absolutely love Kindaichi and it's very sad how it never reached the same level of popularity as Detective Conan in the west... personally I like both series a lot (although Kindaichi often features darker themes, so I'd say it's a little more mature). I think every mystery fan should definitely give it a watch. Also, the original novels that inspired it should be more famous, too!
I mean the problem had with the character i think as a story of murder it is damn interesting but every character is fucking boring and doesn't have a cool personality Like in comparison Conan feels more cooler than hajime Even secret cops like furuya or Akai is more cooler than the glasses one in kindaichi And even the fml in detective Conan is better in personality compared to her The cases are mature but Kindaichi doesn't feels like a detective unlike shinichi who is famous everywhere
Conan is way more popular than kindaichi in japan too. for example conan has an annual movie that continues to break records each year. like the movie 23 that somehow beat avengers endgame in Japan and movie 27 that beat Godzilla vs king Kong
I remember in the Traditional Chinese edition of the manga, sometimes there were tips that would help readers improve their deductive reasoning skills, like photocopying the floor plan, etc. When Kindaichi found out the culprit and the scheme, there was even a declaration of challenge to readers, saying that all of the clues have been presented and asking the readers to find out the culprit too.
I think Kindaichi mainly at that time was more darker than Conan. This was more for adults where conan even child can have a look. Even the opening are different. It's sad that Kindaichi did not get the same popularity. I take an exemple, in the past, mainly that time, anime was considered too violent in france, so an anime like kindaichi will have a lot of difficulties to succeed.
I think earlier episodes of detective Conan were pretty dark like moonlight sonata murder case and haunted villa bandage case and many more within 200 episodes. And also the victims were shown with blood all over their corpse with eyes open with scary expressions where in kindaichi they never really showed a lot of murdered victims but kindaichi had more emotional motives where we sympathise for the murderers and understand them
@@wakita50 oh yes, early Detective Conan was truly brutal! I feel like at some point they must have told the author to tone it down, over the years it's gotten less shocking murders... instead, the Kindaichi anime always tried to avoid showing too much violence onscreen while the manga is pretty much on the same level as early Conan, in my opinion.
Early DC was ridiculous. First chapter of the manga is a guy getting beheaded on a roller coaster with a geyser of blood. It used to be pretty creepy, almost on par with Kindaichi
Though this series is criminally underrated (outside of Japan and many parts of Asia at least) the original 1997-2000 series was amongst the first anime I ever watched and still remains as one of my favorite series! Kindaichi is a character I very easily relate to and the supporting cast, though small, are very memorable and fantastic including Hajime's childhood friend Miyuki, the reliable Inspector Kenmochi, the brilliant and charming Superintendent Akechi, and the Puppeteer from Hell, Takato Yoichi. From the manga to the anime to its numerous live action series, this series with its mix of heart, humor and complex murder mysteries always brings a smile to my face and one I would never forget!
dem this opened a whole can of nostalgia, my favorite case is probably about twin dorms and the one with different metal door (i saw there are some clip about the case in this video). also, the always recurring opera murders are pretty interesting as well since they trace back to the same place with different twist also, kindaichi original series actually managed to get subbed officially on animax, thats the only reason why i even know of its existence as a child anyway
From what I researched and understood, the "Seven Mummies" case wasn't adapted in the anime because the original case received controversy due to its alleged plagiarism to another novel. The "Head Hanging School" murder case wasn't adapted in the anime either as it was deemed to dark (and problematic) by the anime crew for the younger audiences watching the program and they feared that the case may inspire violence and copycats in schools by students
@@ivanlouisjbarrantes1254 how unfortunate then, both are my favorite top 2 cases in the series. The 7th mummies for its brutality, and the head hanging school, for me the saddest one, I legit crying reading that case
@@petefabio1530 I'm actually very curious to read the Head hanging case as I heard that it has an especially tragic story. Perhaps because of how tragic it is I could somewhat see why the people behind the anime wpuld have concerns of adapting it faithfully with out compromising its themes and elements
@@ivanlouisjbarrantes1254 without spoiling you that much, it had the theme of bullying in school But as we know in Kindaichi, it goes way deeper and darker than that
There is, Idk which Mummy One Is But Hanging Head School Is Adapted In Kindaichi Case Files Returns(R) Anime Series. I still didn't find the mummy one tho, instead found the western style village case which isn't adapted in anime yet but is adapted in live action adaptations.
Great to see some content on Kindaichi, this series deserves more love. Good picks for the recomandations. Been a fan since it's broadcast on Manga TV in France in the 2000's. The first 50 episodes of Kindaichi were actually dubbed in french (by the same cast who made Naruto). And we have a fan site that subbed all the episodes (KFR fan-sub). It's sad that no official subtitles exist.
This is my favorite anime of all time. Its even better than Detective School Q Or Detective Conan. Also all 148 episodes have been subbed now. So its better than ever time to start.
Fun fact about the animated series, the 1996 movie (first animated adaptation of the Opera House Murders) featured Kappei Yamaguchi as the voice of Kindaichi….aka, the voice actor for Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan! I quite like his performance for Kindaichi, but I’m glad he went on to be Shinichi instead as I think both him and Taiki Matsuno do a fantastic job in their respective roles. Also, massive shoutout to the hard work of the Kindaichi Lovers and Irregular Scans teams for translating and making the anime/manga series accessible to English speaking fans, I never would’ve gotten into the series if not for them.
This series was very popular in India but I can't say for west. Animax aired all the original episodes from original series. You should take a look at it.
Besides the error mentioned of being published in weekly shonen magazine and NOT JUMP i recalled hearing that the original anime adaptation of Kindaichi was popular in Framce so it did have a western realese if you are going to say something like that it's always worth checking europe... But I'm glad seeing Kindaichi acknowledgement
You should watch Giallo movies, they're Murder Mystery films from Italy that predate the American Slasher genre from the late 70's to the mid 80's with Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees.
Kindaichi is very popular in Asia during early 2000s. I remember I read all of the first 27 volumes when my country still publish manga. It's better than Detective Conan in my opinion. Edit: Kindaichi is pronounce like Kin-Dai-Chi, I know it's form from Kin, Da and Ichi but when you combine the 3 words together it's pronounce like Kin-Dai-Chi instead of Kin-da-ichi.
I don't know why but I find it really funny how Kindaichi's 5th opening (Justice Future Mystery) was sung by Conan's VA (And right after Conan's 5th opening, Truth ~A Great Detective Of Love~, was sung by them as well) Also to be honest, I prefer Detective Conan and Detective School Q, largely because I feel like I can connect with the main cast of those series more
this is my favourite anime series, I am currently watching it and I want this series to be popular and first I want a decent dub to be produced for it, this is probably the most underrated Anime whodunit series and I wish there was a Ditective Conan - case closed crossover, so that it would be and it would get more popular and it should get the popularity it needed 🙏, make it happen Crunchyroll 🙏😔🔥👍❤️, I love this Anime series, it has banger of opening, there are certain flaws and it does get boring and stretchy, overall it is great and everyone should give this Anime a chance and watch it, please
Great video. I'm sorry to be nit picky, but the series originally ran in Weekly Shonen MAGAZINE and not Weekly Shonen Jump. Very easy mistakes, but literal competitors to one another. Great job on the video. Thank you for showing Kindaichi and anime/manga some much deserved love.
So my Detective Anime list is currently: - Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple - Detective Conan (I'm about 900 episodes in now) - Kindaichi Case Files Any other suggestions along these lines?
except conan has a variety of cases outside jus murder, from kaito kid to black organization.. Conan is also getting an annual movie that is full of action and continues to be successful
Yes!!! I love the original anime and have watched every single translated episode and think anyone who likes Case Closed/Detective Conan would at least enjoy it. IMHO I will say the constant use of the end being portrayed as a bigger tragedy than you expected can be a bit much when it happens 9/10 times but it's impressive when they pull it off emotionally. The original novels that the manga is inspired by are finally getting translations in English by Pushkin Press, with 5 of the major ones being out.
I've seen the anime, movies and live action adaptions. I also own the manga of both the shounen and 30 series... I love the series since i saw it as a kid in japan
the detective manga thats even more underrated, I think, is Q.E.D: Shoumei Shuuryou by Motohiro Katou. Despite many novel adaptations, it never got an anime adaptation which is a shame.
Greetings, I watched your video about denpa visual novels. Thank you for such a great video. I love Subahibi and the world of Chaos;x. I saw your webpage about it too. As a fan of denpa VNs, denpa moe music and denpa anime, thanks for the informative video + recommentations. Also with sources and video script on the webpage!
i'm still butthurt that the only german release of kindaichi was the dropped manga. which was only released in a monthly released manga magazine series is awesome!
When you say the kindaichi case files anime doesn't have an english adaptation, do you mean it wasn't dubbed. I am from India and I watched all 148 episodes on animax, so I'm sure there is an official sub. Although, I can't find it anywhere which is a shame because there aren't any fansubs that I could find that have translated the last few episodes
I grew up watching Detective Conan and I love it. Only in my later teenage years did i discover The Files of young kindaichi and i am not sorry to say that it is better than Detective Conan in some ways. Don't get me wrong, case closed is great but in terms of intricate cases and darker themes Kindaichi is elite. I wish people knew about it more, but then again i prefer to gateleep this gem😅.
The only critique I have of this video is that you don't play the original anime's extremely simple yet extremely hype "Kindaichi has figured out what's going on" theme: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DF50Cn7OOwk.html Hearing that alone should get doubters to try it out.
