Emma Stone was also in a TV show with very similar vibe of comedy The Curse which premiered on paramount plus last year. Incredible watch if you haven’t seen it, it absolutely floored me by the end, no spoilers of course

I am a fan of Yorgos Lanthimos since "The Favourite", "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", "The Lobster", "Dogtooth" and "Poor Things"; and "Kinds of Kindness" is a living proof of vintage Yorgos because of its unrelenting bleakness and bizarre humor. Not to mention that "Kinds of Kindness" has a wonderful potential of being my favorite movie of 2024.💯

1. huge fan of yours, ive watched a lot of great films thanks to your recommendations. 2. One of these films was Rebecca Hall's Resurrection. 3. This movie's kindnesses reminded me of the 'little kindness' that Tim Roth's character kept asking from Rebecca Hall. In the first film Dafoe asks Plemons to kill someone as his 'kindness' among other things, in the second Plemons asks Stone to mutilate and kill herself as the kindness, and in the 3rd Dafoe and Hong Chau ask for several kindnesses from their cult memebers

I just don't know how anyone can sit in a cinema for 2 hours and 45 minutes and not have to pee or smoke or refill their soda or any number of things that might come up in that amount of time. Where have all the movie editors gone?!?! Even if it's a picture I'm dying to see I always save run-times of this length for streaming. I love your work, Emma. I never miss a video! Thanks so much for what you do.

The second part could definitely be considered horror. I actually went in to this thinking there were 4 parts for some reason, which I think made it seem shorter because I was mentally anticipating another segment. It wasn't until I first checked my watch with 10 minutes left that I realized there must only be 3. 😆

Also worried about the run-time a bit... but I sat through Schindler's List and Titanic a few times so I reckon I'll be fine. Yorgos is such a creative talented film-maker... Poor Things just blew me away and is easily one of my favourite movies of the year! Also Dogtoothe is a modern classic IMO. Great review Emma, thanks. Finally got around to this one, and I find it an interesting approach to identity, conditioning and control, and with all the exploitation that goes with it (be it violent or sexual). Every character/actor incarnation was distinct, and I enjoyed segment three the most. I can see why some would be frustrated that the approach of these segments are obscure parables that link only thematically, but I respect that the film is unabashedly weird and let's you form your own viewpoints. I'm happy to give it an 8/10.

I didn't read the synopsis and only saw the teaser trailer once and I think that was my mistake. I don't know why but I was expecting more of a comedy and finding out the tone was completely different just threw me off. Also these types of movies just go over my head. I never really felt I got the point of what was being told. I do agree the anthology made the run time feel less but this is one I don't think I'll ever revisit.
@wingflanagan
@wingflanagan Месяц назад
Don't know if this is in your wheelhouse, or whether you have reviewed it before, but there is an Argentine film that sounds similar called _Wild Tales._ It's an anthology of tales, some of which are _very_ dark, but some of which are also funny. It's in Spanish (of course), but it's a lot of fun if you're up to reading the subs or you speak the language. BTW, I also saw _In a Violent Nature_ and I really liked it. Even thought it is very much my cup of tea, though, I did find it a little tedious at the wrap-up. I get why that scene went on as long as it did, but it did go long after the point had been made. Still, I loved that one kill about halfway through (you know the one). I know it made some people physically ill, but I thought it was gloriously funny, in a weird sort of way. It made me laugh. This is probably the only forum in which I would admit that because I know this community gets it.

Have you seen the anthology series Room 104? It's not exactly it, but kinda fits the bill of an awkward cringe anthology. It's a Duplass joint, so not exactly the same vibe, and as with all anthologies, episodes are hit or miss, but some are really really great.
