My friend said something to similar effects yesterday. And I can’t say I blame them. Thanks for watching my channel and if you liked my review I really hope you consider subscribing 😆

I like this review. It's honest and I like that you work through your impressions. I haven't seen it, but have had the same feeling in other Lanthimos films.

Thank you for the kind words and I should just vote, I generally do like Yorgos as a filmmaker. I just struggle with some of his sensibilities and this film in particular I thought was everything I disliked about him as a storytelling in one movie.

Magnolia is an anthology film and is almost perfect.

I am not claiming that anthology films can’t be great. I’m saying that sometimes the issues inherent to that mode of storytelling is the films feel half baked, as is the case for Kinds of Kindness

I really enjoyed this film. I am a fan of Yorgos, however, I am a bit confused as to how this was "too dark" in it's comedic area. I feel like it is pretty consistent with his other works, which could all be described as 'morbid'. As for the stories feeling hollow, I disagree. I felt like I was watching a fable unfold within each story. I thought the abrupt endings were comedic in itself. Like a gut punch or the rug has been ripped out from underneath you. Sometimes certain directors just won't click for everyone! Like for me, I completely don't understand the praise for Baz Luhrmann. I just don't get it but I'm just gonna accept that I probably never will. lol. I think calling this movie a major disappointment just isn't fair. I understand that you don't necessarily dislike Yorgos Lanthimos, but it sounds to me like you're probably not gonna vibe well with a lot of his stuff. Which is fine! I'm not trashing you or anything at all. i like hearing all types of opinions on movies that i am passionate about and i appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts. it's always good to hear different perspectives :)

Thank you for the kind words at the end. I’ll try articulating myself over writing my issues with the comedic sensibilities of this film, and sometimes Yorgos in general. In Kinds of Kindness I found the dark humor to be unsuccessful because it was so largely unpleasant (and I thought unoriginal) that I didn’t laugh. Essentially, it felt like Yorgos was being overly shocking and the humor came across not as a fascinating exploration of our worst impulses/instincts/ and the cruelty we inflict onto one another on a daily basis. Rather, it came across as edgy for edgy sake. The same way you hear a really offensive joke that doesn’t have a punch line and the joke is, “isn’t what I just said so fucked up?” That’s how I felt watching this movie. Essentially, I didn’t feel most of the movie had a point, or if it did it just never clicked with me. Some scenes have the tonal balance done masterfully. Without spoiling the final scene of the movie which essentially ends the movie on a joke is in my opinion a really funny joke and does successfully what you wrote about. I can’t say I felt that feeling throughout most of the films runtime however. Thanks for watching and if you like this review please consider subscribing for more reviews!

I loved the movie, there were so many deep themes in the movie that seemed to go over your head. The movie had some dark comedy in it but it's not supposed to be overly funny, it's showing different ways that people manipulate and use people for their own gain so it's supposed to be really dark. This was not a good review, 13 minutes long and you barely explained any of the many deep themes the movie touches on.

This movie doesn't need scientific analysis. The storyline is pretty basic almost no depth.

I feel like the points you just made were points that I articulated in my review. Needless to say, yes I could have talked about it far more in depth, but I’m just giving initial reviews, not in depth spoiler discussions. Many other great channels do that far better than I could ever dream of doing so.

So you did a great job with the review! I told some of the scenes with my dad what happens in this movie and he thought it sounded kind of creepy! I saw this movie as well! Going into this blindly having knowing nothing about this movie! I was thinking of this idea for an episode where the main character’s dog gets stolen by two cult leaders who are naked and the cults supports a tree! Also I wanna name the episode “the house of the cult” You can guess what’s that’s a reference to! Also after the main character kills the man cult leader the woman cult leader eats his heart and turns into a creepy angel to kill our main character!

Incredible film, I do not understand your take at all but clearly your not just someone who needs to watch more films so I guess it just wasn’t for you. Maybe I’m the weirdo but movies like Kinds of Kindness or Beau is Afraid where people either love it or hate it always seem to become favorites for me.

I can’t say Beau is Afraid was my cup of tea either; however, that one worked for me and I understand the film’s intent and what it was trying to accomplish. Kinds of Kindness I also felt like I largely “got the idea” I just didn’t find it clever.
