A few USB dongles that I enjoyed the Kinera Gumiho Celest on were the Hiby FC3, Hiby FC4, Hidizs S9 Pro.

thank you for the review! Gumiho is pronounced "Goomi-ho" which means a fox with nine tails in Korean. It's Kitsune in Japanese. It's a human-liver eating monster in the folktales of East Asia who can shapeshift to a beautiful woman to seduce men. In modern days, we often refer to attractive and flirtatious women as a fox in those countries. In the HBO series, Lovecraft Country E06 shows their version of Gumiho. I know nobody asked but that's my two cents! in case anyone is wondering.

Hi Dave, nice review. When I tested this little guy, I noticed the trebble sounds worse when you add more power. For example: listening on mobile or apple dong was fine, FC3 the trebble started to get too glassy, and on DX3 Pro + it gets terrible. However I just tested with a 36 ohm adapter on DX3 Pro + and it sounds better on trebble region. Maybe Kinera guys focused only on having the first planar that is great for mobile users. I agree the treble does seem more egregious with more power and that it seems most comfortable on dongles. It isn't super hard to drive but does take just a bit more but not near as much as most planar IEM.

Hi Dave, thanks again for your thorough review. I’m having hard time finding an IEM that suits my taste. I’m new to this but from what I figure, I prefer wide soundstage, neutral-warm sound signature (not sure if it is the same with mild v-shaped), good vocal in the price range around $150. I have tried the ER2SE and S12 and didn’t really like it, the ER2SE is too clean, too little bass, S12 the bass is too much and too tight and too sharp for my taste, also I think the treble is too bright as well, so I guess maybe my taste is opposite with these 2. Any IEMs in this price range that you would recommend? Thank you! My playlists consist of Pop/Ballad, R&B, Vocalist and EDM. And btw I would like something sounds good out for the box since I will be listening on my iPhone most of the time so no luck EQing.

I have listened that is not a planar driver, it's a different type of dynamic driver, but not a planar...

It’s a “planamic” driver 😊 it has some planar stuffs (like the parallel magnets) however the voice coil is similar to what we have on DDs.

I just got these pairs yesterday and I got a question..Are these ment to be so quiet? On my Samsung J3 2016 it's weirdly quiet even on max volume. With my PC I tried my other headphones and IEM before and they're loud even on 4% but these ones needs to be set at 22% just to match them. I should also add that I'm barely knowledgeable on audio stuff in general so..I like some advice on this! I seriously do enjoy how these are shaped and how they look so I really don't want to change these out for something else!

I have no experience with a Samsung J3. Is 4% and 22% volume? Is that loud enough for you? Planar IEM are harder to drive than other IEM. Have you tried a portable amplifier or a desktop amplifier? Have you tried a USB-C dongle DAC/Amp?

Yeah those are volume numbers! 4% on my KZ, CRA+ and KBEAR Lark were plenty loud for me on my windows pc but the Gumiho needed to be set higher so I just found that personally weird. Also I have not..I had assumed these Gumiho would be fine to use without any additional audio equipment, Am I incorrect on this? Also the Samsung J3 is a very budget phone so it only has Micro USB. Yeah its very old. I do have plans to eventually upgrade towards a Xperia 10 IV

Hey, yea that was my experience with them as well. Just ok. I just bought em on a whim, didn't need em. Had the famous planar iems already. Just kinda on a planar kick. They felt ok until one of my songs hit that peak almost spot on with the cymbals in the treble area. I was like OH MY GOD. Holy Hell. What is with this BA and Planar combo thing. When you consider the treble nightmare that is the Dunu Talos with BA on and the spikey Kinera Gumiho in the BA. I dunno, just cause they add multiple drivers, doesn't mean they need them. The fact that Kinera has a SPD 2.0, a new planar with no BA, that they basically all but say is tuned better and that's why we don't need the BA. Ha. So this was the beta version of the real release, essentially. The stable one is coming. I won't be getting that. I think it'll just be the same thing without the treble spike. I do wonder how these compare to the CCA and two KZs. I know the KZ's (shockingly) got some decent reviews. HONEST, I don't know. Thanks for your video. I already had it but I love just seeing if people hear what I hear. You did...again. Thanks a lot.
