As with many heavy metal musicians, he's an incredibly chilled out, soft-spoken and articulate dude when you get beyond the mask and occult themed theatrics.
BTW, Freddy Mercury (and others at that level) used to smoke. And snort. And drink shittons of booze, while KD stopped drinking in an excessive way since forever, and never done hard drugs (at least, it's what he ever told).

It's hilarious how everyone's hating on Metallica yet them and King Diamond are friends and have played together. King himself likes em so stop with the ridiculous hate.
He is modest, but don't worry, he knows very deep that King Diamond band and Mercyful Fate are better than Metallica. Quality and being cult bands are the evidence.
I've been a Metallica fan for quite a while, but King Diamond can never be replaced.. and I'd take the guitar duo of Pete Blakk and Andy Larocque over Kirk and James any day. King Diamond might be "under" Metallica in popularity, but he and his band are far above them in quality. It's not a competition, and they can never be replaced. I'll take both bands.
King diamond is stylish theatrical metal for people with high standard class Metallica more for the smaller brains who want typical verse verse solo verse type of songs

King Diamond and Metallica are two different styles music they're all good friends I don't compare them I like both Styles music before Metallica changed now they suck I'll be happy when they get off the stage and retire
Funny, he claimed it has "much better production" than the 80s albums, but when I listen to it now it sounds kinda flat and overly 90s. Meanwhile Melissa and Don't Break the Oath have incredibly rich, dynamic production and sound better than 90% of metal albums. king's certainly entitled to his opinion of his own work though
In The Shadows sounds killer......the crazy thing is even though it was released in the 90's, it had an early 80's feel to it. I think it's their best sounding album.....not flat at all.
Metallica sucks. All hail the king, mercyful fate and king diamond are the best. Acquired taste for some but God damn it is the most intense concept albums I've ever listened to. 🤘
But you can see in that video she has respect and he is an awesome guy I would love to meet him in person I have got to shake in his hand when he did the into the Shadows with Mercyful Fate got to see them play at Jack's before it turned into Empire I know it's one show that he canceled at Jack's what's really pissed me off but I understood why so I had to go all the way down the Springfield Virginia to get my money back it was a real pain in the ass on that tour he slipped a disc and his back so therefore he had to cancel the show but I really thought sucked cuz I was hoping to see King Diamond band play but at least I got to see him play with merciful fate
1:45 - Sorry King I gotta disagree with you there. As much as I did love In The Shadows it really sounded like more of a continuation of The Eye rather than Don't Break The Oath.
