I grew up listening to the album "Them" by King Diamond so I felt the need to react to "Sleepless Nights". This is a live version and the king blew me away with how impressive his vocals are. The quality of this video was also amazing!

Hi there it was great talking with you in Frank's stream and really enjoyed your review. I agree with you and I hear a lot of Ozzy's "I don't know" in this song. That said, Andy LaRocque (yes that's him with the short hair) always brings Style on the leads and always make city zone with that euro classical style. I'm not a big KD fan but andy has always been one of my favorite guitarists. Great share and see you soon.

The way they hyped up the crowd from the start...I MELTED! *Ozzy has left the chat* lmao I love when artists put out a quality live show. Growing up I couldn't really afford to go to a lot of live concerts so I cannot imagine how many people now can feel like they're right there! I mean, man! CHILLS! Your reaction and analyzation was on point. His vocals along with the guitar riffs and melody were fire! 🙌🔥👌

Wooow his falsetto is crazy good. Hell of range. Like you, I got the Ozzy vibe as well. Sonically I personally appreciate the acoustic parts with him belting away. Great reaction vid! BTW, your production quality is off the meter! Love the new background as well

King Diamond use to scare me as a kid, seriously, the music was so creepy and his voice my lord. Now I love it and respect the music and respect the old albums I grew up being scared of lol Looks like they still got it, he can still hit them high notes, unreal!

They don't call him the king for nothing, that's for sure! This is after he had a heart attack (I believe that's the news) and stents or whatever procedure he needed. I think that he quit smoking as well. The whole band did an AMAZING job in this song. This is from a DVD that they released last January. I understand the comment about you being spooked by him as a kid. I used to use some of his music for old Halloween mix tapes I did in my teen years. Great times back then! Thanks, Bro 👊👏

It's funny you should mention King Diamond and Ozzy Osbourne in the same video. I saw King in concert at the Bayou in Georgetown on Nov. 8th, 1988 and then saw Ozzy only 17 days later at the Hampton Coliseum on Nov. 25th, 1988. I had to look at my ticket stubs to refresh my memory. Armored Saint opened for King and either White Lion or Vixen (or both) opened for Ozzy. The Bayou was a small venue with an upper balcony. I remember Mikkey Dee getting visibly frustrated with some technical issues during the show. The highlight of the night was when my best friend at the time and I got to shake the hands of King's band when they exited through the upper balcony after their show.

Man, that's an awesome back to back concert history. When a band knows what they want out of their show then I can understand why they'd get frustrated. Plus artists in general are a different breed Their brains are so out there but their talent is undeniable. I'm so sorry but I got tossed out of my recording area so I had to reboot in a different room and things didn't go too smoothly. Plus I switched editing programs but things are calming down and I will be back at it on a regular basis. I have 4 more reactions recorded and I will revisit the 2 groups you've mentioned. "Conspiracy" is the sequel to the album "Them". The main character "King" is making a deal with the evil spirits in his family home of Amon to give them back control of the house in exchange for seeing his dead sister Missy again who "They" slaughtered with an axe and burned. Missy can only come to him as a ghost at night. This sounds sooooo SICK live man!! Seen him live and it is just like that! Sooooo glad to feature you in this one... well deserved on your part! Honestly, I wanted to do more editing with the video but I was dragging my feet for so long that I set today as the date. I'm glad that the record label allowed me to do this because they are tough with King Diamond. I got a claim but no strike so that's fine by me. Glad you filled me in on the story a bit further. Awesome song! I definitely get the Ozzy feel you felt and the "Bark at the moon" vibe. That guitar riff is very similar to the style of Zakk Wylde. King Diamond's voice can sometimes be a little too high pitched for me, but his band is always on point. Amazing solos! Good review bro! I think some of the extreme high pitched vocals represent the female characters in his music, maybe I'm wrong. However, the guy makes vocal coaches pick their jaws up because of how consistent his range is. Glad you enjoyed this one; Ghost fans might snub KD! Thank you 👍

Yes, King's falsetto voice does take some time getting used to if you're used to harsher vocals in metal music. In fact, when I first got into Mercyful Fate in the late 90s and early 2000s, I too was put off by his vocals, but now almost 20 years later and after hearing more subgenres of metal, including many female-fronted bands, King's vocals sound very fitting now. However, I do tend to like his lower register better, but a falsetto scream is always nice in the right places. But I will also say that I wish certain parts of his songs were sung in the deeper register, but whatcha gonna do? Just enjoy the kick ass band. That's the one thing that makes most of his music tolerable. The great musicianship and guitar riffing and solos.

@@DannymikReacts hard to say really as pretty much any song by him/his band will be taken from a concept/story album where you kinda have to follow the story to understand what its about so kinda hard to give just 1 song cus of that. but yeah the two songs u mentioned is good if gonna watch live . if gonna do album versions i would recommend maybe the song emerencia from the puppet master album .thou i dont really mind wichever you choose is good ^_^ anyways thanks alot for writing back appriciate it ^_^

Great reaction, man! I never really noticed it before you mentioned it, but the main riff does remind me of Ozzy's classic Bark At The Moon lol It's nice to see people enjoying King's vocal style. When I discovered the band, way back in 1988, even my metalhead friends couldn't get into his falseto; they thought the music was fire just not the singing. I loved everything about King Diamond...the musical prowess, the storylines (I'm a sucker for concept albums), the vocals, the face paint (King was actually sued by Gene Simmons of KISS because of this, and King voluntarily changed his makeup instead of fighting the allegations in court...though no one in their right mind would ever in a million years confuse King Diamond for Gene Simmons 😂). Back in the day, I would scour metal magazines, fan clubs, you name it, trying to find decent live footage of KD to no avail. When Songs For The Dead Live (this video is taken from that dvd) was released a few years ago, I couldn't believe how amazing it sounded. After having heart surgery and quitting smoking some years ago, 63 year old King sounds better than ever...almost pitch perfect to his studio recordings. Ever the showman, King Diamond really puts on a theatrical show rivaled by few. Fun fact: The lady singing backup is his lovely wife. She's there so that prerecorded backing/harmonizing vocal tracks aren't needed. Stay heavy and long live the King 🤘

Awesome AWESOME comment brother! I really enjoy his falsetto but I do understand how some cannot stomach it. The thing is that KD can sing in some many different ranges and do it perfectly... his vocal talent is crazy good. I did hear about his heart surgery... scary stuff right there. The sound and video quality of this video is off the charts. I don't know how much post production editing happened here but it's so damn good. This song is to the top of my KD list. I'm most familiar with "Them" as that's the album my brother got me into. Thanks for the view here and excellent comment 🙌✌👏

You mentioned the guitars and the drums, which of course are great, but with King Diamond songs the bass is not to be underestimated. In this song especially, it adds so much more than just rhythm. If you really listen for it you can hear how it enhances the melody, the tone and the harmony. I'm not sure who's playing here, but King has worked with some excellent bassists over the years, in particular the late great Timi Hansen.

You are 100% correct here. The bass adds another layer to this song, VERY smooth is certain parts when the songs slows down. The guitar work across the board is very strong in this song. I think what you're hearing that reminds you of Ozzy are the pinch harmonics. Ozzy's old guitarist Zakk Wylde used pinch harmonics liberally.
