Capt Bird was extremely supportive of me back in 2004-2005 when I was building/developing Bluffs Landing Marina. I have a mount of his of a giant snook that he caught in Rocky Slough. It’s a treasure.
Great story of a man's life who gave many men something to remember. I really enjoyed this positive story about a great man like Doug Bird. for all whom he blessed with his knowledge it says a lot to been asked to tell some of his stories. thank you!👏👏
This was great from start to finish! You dont hear often of the legends and its great to put these out there so everyone gets a chance to reconnect and hear about some great people and pioneers on the Texas coast. Great job Reel Sportswear!
I cannot could the times Doug came by my boat with that trolling motor chucking lures. Just waving at him and watching what he did was awesome. I enjoyed listening to him and Ron go back and forth. Legends and a great friends. RIP
I remember the first time that I fished with Doug it was in the very early 80's. He stopped at Compuerta Pass and pointed and he cast and I cast. He caught a red and I caught a 17" trout. Doug looked at the trout and said, "we cull those size trout." So I tossed it back into the water and Doug looked at me and said "Do NOT do that again!" I'll always remember that and the "wet" Bay Hawk, I think it was, boat that he had. I still look for him on the water when I fish Baffin.
