The world's oldest monarchy?! This a perfect example of deep ignorance. The world's oldest monarchy is Japan. The British monarchy isnt even the oldest in Europe. Good god
The British Monarch is only 313 years old. It was created on 1st of May 1707 when the two previously separate realms of England and Scotland were dissolved and the single new realm of the Kingdom of Great Britain was formed. New realm new monarchy.

Bertie hated his nephew Kaiser willhelm mainly because Queen Victoria and prince Albert loved him most 1st grandson Born to their beloved country Germany. So when she died Bertie did all he can to sever all german ties but traditions are traditions so his eldest son marries german . UNTIL WW2
Why is nobody talking about how handsome King George V was? And hr was a great king who modernized and saved the monarchy and led his country to victory in ww1

L Verity Denmark is 3rd oldest, after Norway and UK (through Scotland’s monarchy, which is the oldest in Europe. Because Scotland is now part of the United Kingdom, the UK’s monarchy is now considered the oldest).
@@maryviryap6701 Yes, you are right, the 3rd son, Prince Henry Duke of Gloucester born in 1900, died in 1974 at age 74. Thank you for pointing that out, I had missed that! David, King Edward the VIII, and later Duke of Windsor (after abdicating) died in 1972 at age 77 (born 1894). He would have been 78 in less than a month if he had lived. Their lives were fascinating and what a time it was and again thank you.

+Jose Sanchez. How do you know for sure if The British Royal Family is not the oldest BEYOND divinely family in the world? The title and distinction could never go to, "The Japanese Royal Family." There are many old Royal families in India too. The Tripura Royal family is 2nd oldest Royal family in the World with records traced upto 186 unbroken rulers, till 1947, when they became part of Indian Union. Yes, Japan has the the oldest continuing Royal family, as we know of!
King George was the one who said "no" to the British goverments plans of freeing the Tzars by force as king George was afraid that if bloody Nick was to come to Britain it might eventually bring the British monarchy down, the government had plans to forcibly free them & bring them to live here, after all those loving letters they exchanged to eachother George didn't even want him & his familly in Britain, so much for familly love!
Avie Mare:They were cousins, hence the close family resemblance. George wanted to give refuge to Nikki & his family, but was overruled by his political advisors, because the Tsar had been described as an evil, tyrannical despot & for the Royal Family to be seen to sympathise with him would reflect adversely upon the House of Windsor at a time when the institute of Monarchy itself was being questioned all over Europe! But if George could have known in advance their ultimate fate, he might have overruled his dissuaders........! He probably only expected them to be imprisoned or exiled to Siberia- not butchered the way they were!!
@@tradingpost2472 Bullshit, it was not a case of George not wanting Nicholas and his family in Britain it was that it was too dangerous to bring them to Britain and its colony's seeing how the British people saw the Romanov's as brutal tyrannical dictators at a time when George's throne was already in danger from the rising left wing politics, anti monarchist feelings and anti German feelings during a world war where millions of the nation men were being killed. Saving Nicholas could have easily pushed the people over the edge and toppled the monarchy. Plus when George turned Nicholas down the provisional government was in charge, nobody was to know the Bolsheviks would eventually take power and murder the family
Edward Vll's Mother, Queen Victoria very much DID embrace the new mechanical age. Her husband Albert was forever hand making weird gadgets, which she loved, including automatic door closing devices, weight balanced elevators and much more during his 42 years. Victoria found gadgets and new age systems of the time, an era of hope and the 'clear way forward for humanity' - This video is FILLED with untruths and has been compiled with very little knowledge into the family and their thoughts, past or present. Pure fables and guesswork. Entertaining....nevertheless. Queen Alexandra (The Rose Queen) was a Danish Princess and Queen Mary (of Teck) is regarded as the closest relation by looks passed to the current Queen, Elizabeth. Their similarities are astounding.
Queen Mary was born and raised in England and considered herself English. She did not speak English with a German accent.

You can search RU-vid and find a recording of King George and Queen Mary giving a speech to a group of young boys and girls. Some British people commented that they could detect a slight German accent in her speech. I’m American so she sounded quite British to me. It is said that she was cared for by a German nanny. That and the fact that many of the royal family including Queen Victoria spoke German fluently accounts for her accent.
Their real name Saxe Coburg Gotha. from Deutschland=Germany. They spoke Deutsch (German) at breakfast. To avoid Catholic royals they import only German Royals protestant.
@@mascmen7 there were Princesses from Denmark too, Princesses from the top drawer of royalty were limited and there were alot of Duchys in what is now Germany Queen Mary was only a Serene Highness, so was Albert which is not as high
John R Walsh You got most of that correct. Parliament did indeed pass over 50+ relatives that were all Catholics before finally finding a Protestant relative that just so happened to be living in Germany.

Why this documentary keep calling Queen Mary a German princess “with a foreign accent” when it is well known she was born and raised in the UK and her mother was Princess Mary of Cambridge, first cousin to Queen Victoria, and a member of the British Royal Family?
@Leonie Romanes Queen Victoria did not have a German accent except when speaking German. Neither did Queen Mary. There are recordings that prove that and I have known people who knew both of them who also confirmed it.
Mary also spoke Italian - after her parents went broke, Pcess Mary Adelaide took her husband and children to live in Florence - it was there that QM's lifelong love affair with art was kindled.
@@AWKWARDCONFIDENCE if you were born and raised in England then you are English. Your ancestry might not be, but you are - and your son definitely is. The closest you are to not being English is being described as a second generation immigrant, if your parents were born elsewhere.
The only beef I have regarding this King George is that he left his Russian relatives, the late Czar and Czarina to their fate. Queen Mary sounds nice, if two brothers loved her
He didn't "leave" the Romanovs. On strong advice of the government, he declined them asylum but no one had any idea at that time that their lives were at risk. George believed like everyone else that they would go to another country until the end of the war. He was shaken to the core when he learned of their fate.
It was the depth of depravity to abandon them. Can you imagine denying asylum to a cousin of yours, and later saying, "Oops, I thought someone else would save you"????? Really abhorrent behavior. :(
My mother always said we were related to the royals. Now with DNA testing available to all. My sister had hers done and it showed that we are related by blood to Marie Antoinette. Does this mean we are princesses too??
I agree. I saw it especially when she visited the German concentration camp in Germany a couple of years back... All I saw was Queen Mary... Her walk, the way she turned to her Husband, her manner of speaking...all her Grandmother. ❤️
This whole program is biased in favor of the subject to such an extent that it is difficult to make a full response in such a small space..... As a couple they were unable to speak of their affection and had to write to each other. As parents, they hardly excelled - he stated that his children should be afraid of him and she wouldn't contradict him. (They were oblivious to the fact that a nanny was abusive to their first child. No Wonder he was considered emotionally unstable.) ....so much more....
Lousy parents not to notice or take the time to communicate with their children (royals or not). I don’t give a toss about ‘that was how things were done back in the era’. If you choose to procreate then have the moral fortitude & decency to be a parent. You owe it to your offspring to protect them when they are too young to defend themselves. Even a king or alpha female of a primate troupe has the capability to do this. No bloody excuses. They should’ve had that nanny flogged & jailed. ANYone who deliberately harms a child must face the consequence of their evil actions. Was disgusted to read about those poor kids & the rigid, inhumane environment they were innocently born into. Poor little (hidden & unmentioned) John has the better childhood out of the lot of his siblings. Although his life was cut short due to epilepsy, he at least was able to have some kind of normal childhood. The others didn’t stand a damn chance. What a fkd up family. Life is difficult enough without all that psychiatric damage & dysfunction.
Queen Mary wasn't a German princess at an English court. She was the granddaughter of the Duke of Cambridge and was born and raised in London. Her mother was a British princess although her father was German.
Yvonne Strong It's either ignorance or bias. Like the people who say that she had a thick German accent. Those who knew her, including my parents, said she didn't, and this is born out by a few recordings of her. Some also say that Queen Victoria had a German accent and couldn't speak English properly. Denied by her last surviving grand daughter, Princess Alice of Athlone and the one recording of her speaking.
"Queen Mary wasn't a German princess at an English court." Correct, but not in the way you think. There hasn't been an 'English' court since 1707. The Court of the UK Monarch is formally known as the Court of St James (St James Palace is still the de jure seat of the Monarch, while Buckingham Palace is the de facto seat.)
FYI, Queen Mary, wife of George V, was technically a princess of Teck, in the Kingdom of Württemberg, [Germany] she was born and raised in England. Her parents were Francis, Duke of Teck, who was of German extraction.
@@edisonwato She was also a princess of the United Kingdom, as a great-granddaughter of George III (this was before the days when the HRH designation was restricted to children and male-line grandchildren). People go on about her as though she was German through and through, and she absolutely wasn't.
HM does have the look of the older Queen Mary, for sure. But you say, dismissively, like a typical townie that they wanted "an England that never was." You are wrong there: maybe not in London and in cities, but in the gentle, pastoral villages of Yorkshire where my great-grandparents lived, life was very much like that. It was hard work, yes, but in the spring there WAS dancing round the maypole, in the summer there were village fetes and picnics in the fields, and the lowing herd did wind slowly o'er the lea. They were not rich, but they loved their lives and their community and were at peace with themselves and their neighbours.
Not to worry, Israel's future monarch, the son of David, is waiting in the wings and although his family has not reigned in over two millennia, he is the most awaited monarch of them all. The Japanese monarch was a fascist toady, and I believe that the Chinese emperor had a dynasty that was older than anything the Japanese can come up with.
Princess Diana had more blue blood than the "Windsors", who have taken their name from a castle, not a rank. She could trace her ancestry all the way back to William the Conqueror.
That idea of the Spencer family going back so far has been disproved by genealogical research. The founder of the family died in 1478, their first coat of arms was granted in 1504. They owe their wealth to sheep farming. The Queen can trace her ancestry back to pre 1066. Lots of us can. My family can be traced back to 865. My best friend said we are newcomers as his can be traced back to 820.
Old photos everywhere show unsmiling faces. Unlike today photos then needed a minute, or so, of exposure to register an image on the paper of the time. Therefore, people were told not to smile because it would take too long to strike a smiling pose thus blurring the picture. Hence, they had to pose frozen faced.
Germans! I am related to the German Monarchy ergo I guess I am related to the British royal family lol. My ancestor was a Anna Juliana Von Boyneberg mother of American Colonists- she was my grandfathers great grandmother.
Funny I traced my ancestors on my Paternal side from Francis Mccuin a member of the Jacobites Sent from Liverpool to South Carolina as Political Prisoners! Our German cousins assumed they would continue to Claim Monarchy seats to the Scottish Highlander sides . My Ancestor was a indentured servant as well as some other Family members on these Ships. They were so called Negroes. Like me!
Dmac86 fun fact, the current King of Spain Phillip is of the house of burbon and descends from the kings of France as well as Spain. Queen Elizabeth II descends from English , French, Scottish, and German royalty.
So what! By way of analogy, my paternal grandparents were born in a part of Poland that is now in Belarus but became US citizens in the 1910s. I have no national identity other than American and, similarly, the German ancestry of the current members of the British Royal Family hardly undermines their Britishness.
Queen Mary was born & mostly raised in Britain...she wouldn’t have had a heavy German accent...possibly a slight one by way of her father, but nothing more than that.
Interesting subject, but I could do without all the snide modernist judgments about mores and attitudes of the past. People had different views about marriage and personal conduct back then. Get over it.

None of his theories stand up to the most rudimentary scrutiny. Sorry to burst your bubble but Titanic - like all White Star Line ships was only ever insured for 2/3 of its capital value. The New York Times speculated that the total insurance pay out might have exceeded $12.5m, but that would have included third party payouts to survivors, families of those lost and for lost cargo. The White Star Line only ever received $5m for a vessel valued at $7.5m. I have personally seen the archives at Lloyds of London that clearly show this.

@@robertstruder4434 George is the reason the monarchy still exists today, most monarchy's fell in the early 20th century yet George's is still going strong. And there was a lot more to the Nicholas thing then "George should have saved him". He had to contend with a rise in left wing anti monarchy politics that wanted the monarchy abolished, a rise in anti monarchy feeling within the public, the very anti German feeling within the public (himself being of German decent) all on the top of WWI and not to mention the fact that the British public at the time saw the Romanov's as murderous tyrannical dictators so saving them could have resulted in revolution. Now maybe if Nicholas did not stick to being a absolute monarch and would have allowed a democratic government to form like they tried in 1905 with the State Duma without closing it down nearly straight away to return to autocracy then he would have saved himself and his family and the whole thing wuld have been avoided...but i suppose the whole romantic hollywood version of "George should have swooped in, saved his cousin and they would have all rode off together into the sunset" is more appealing to you?

Just before they took the name Windsor, a newspaper called King George "a dull and foreign monarch". He read it in the paper, threw the paper down and said to Queen Mary "I might be dull, but im damned if I'm foreign, what May?"
And you heard him say that I guess . wait till Harry wakes up from his dreaming. I give him 5 years unfortunately there will be two more children hurt.
The line I heard was that the editorial said he presided over “An uninspiring and alien court.” George then said, “I may be uninspiring, but I’ll be d****d if I’m an alien.”
Windsor.. Get the f... k... Related the German house of Coburg Saksen. They only changed their names. It is the same family of Belgium monargy. They are all related
The claim that Mary was "teased" over her "foreign" accent is absolute baloney. She was born and grew up in London, at Kensington Palace in fact. She WAS a German Princess through her father (her mother was English) but she never lived in Germany, never did more than take an occasional vacation there. English was her first language and she spoke it without a foreign accent (though she was fluent in German and French). Who let THAT one get though?
I concur, how did that get to final draft? It has been said that HM Queen Victoria had a slightly Teutonic lilt in her words...not surprising, what with a German mother, a German governess and a German husband.
msairs had to maintain public trust and favor by conveniently erasing the fact that they’re a German family from the history books in the wake of WWI and ESPECIALLY WWII.
I have always been interested in the Royal family, it may look great but I'm sure they have sacrificed a lot of things I love the Queen she really is a dignified lady
Jesus, where did you find this? It's full of anti British put downs and feminist clap trap. She was a German princess, but Mary was a great-granddaughter of King George III and was born and raised in England, according to Wikipedia, how could she have had a German accent?

J J Queen Mary had a fairly deep voice but totally English accent. Mostly because she was an English princess, not a German one. Mary was born in England, to an English mother but German father, which means she was a princess of both countries. Her great grandfather was King George III, who was born in England and proud to be English. He said that he revelled in the name of England. From people who knew Queen Mary, which includes my late parents, I know that she had an entirety English accent and was proud to be English.
M Scott As a Princess of the Realm she would be British, not English. English is not a legally recognised nationality and should never be applied to Royalty.
It's amazing how the writer's or writers' negative opinion about Queen Victoria vs. Edward comes out in this documentary. From the way I always understood it, Victoria was who she was due to her older relatives, who weren't exactly paragons of virtue. That Edward had a balcony full of mistresses at his coronation wasn't some giant leap forward; it was more like history repeating itself...sadly at the expense of his wife. Plenty of free-spirited men at that time brought home serious illnesses that affected their wives and sometimes unborn children. Nothing progressive about that reality.
