For those wondering, it was Mabel as told by himself in his shoot interview, that at the 95 rumble, 5 months earlier told Vince he wanted to turn heel. The idea even had Vince shocked when Mabel mentioned it.
God, Conrad is such a gaslighter... every time he makes a snarky ass comment and Bruce gets (rightfully) annoyed by it, then Conrad's like "don't get hot about it."
My friend and I ordered this PPV. I remember being so pissed about wasting our paper route money. We didn't order another PPV together until Bash At The Beach 96.
I use to watch all the ppvs on the viewers choice Chanel in Canada but my parents wouldn’t buy them for me so I would watch them like it was scrambled porn….that’s how dedicated I was as a child hahahhaha
Bulldog was the logical choice to be king after Owen and Bret had won the two years prior. Finals should have been Bulldog vs Shawn. Bulldog cheats to win with help from Owen and his new valet/wife, Diana Hart, and thus turns heel. His motivation: he believes he was the rightful winner of the royal rumble earlier that year- not Shawn. Now he will get the title shot he should have had at wrestlemania. Bulldog then joins camp Cornette and begins referring to Diana as Princess Diana. Or go with Mabel. Cough.
I would’ve had Mabel/Luger - Mabel wins HBK/Kama - HBK wins Bulldog/Roadie - Bulldog wins Hakushi/Taker - Hakushi is still heel and wins via count out due to shenanigans (Kama interference) Mabel/HBK - HBK wins Bulldog/Hakushi - Bulldog wins HBK/Bulldog - Have Bulldog turn heel here and get revenge on HBK for the Rumble.
Bam Bam Bigelow should have been in this tournament, and won maybe as a face or even still being a heel. That would have been better then what we got as the main event of SummerSlam 1995.
Crazy how many of these obvious things Conrad misses. It's like he didn't even watch this show before reviewing it cuz Mabel is obviously already a heel that night.
Assumption suggests there was a confusion between the already turned heel Mabel to the newly turned British Bulldog who turned on Diesel on the go home Raw to SummerSlam 95
Bruce makes a valid point about not being a writer. A writer can sit in a room and craft an entire novel from start to finish. Bruce and company had to publish two chapters every other week, never knowing when a character will suddenly be unavailable due to injury, or because a contract is set to expire and may or may not be renewed. He had an audience reacting to each chapter and then had to make adjustments if something wasn't clicking. It's a completely different endeavor.
I like the KOTR belt that Mabel had made. I think they should do that for future Kings and Queens of the ring. That way no one will have to dress up in a cape and crown. It could also be defended like a regular title. I think that Adam Bomb could, possibly, maybe, have worked as KOTR if they turned him heel and gave him a new gimmick. He would have been better than Mabel. Or maybe Jeff Jarrett
I think the problem with nbc not showing WrestleMania 11 was a technical issue on nbcs end. I dont remember what they showed instead but i do remember them running a message across the bottom of the screen that said it was a satilite problem.
They still had a decent roster and a solid show could've been done (Keeping Mabel winning). Tournament Qtrs Mabel vs Holly - Quick Squash match JJ vs HBK - HBK wins Undertaker vs IRS - Taker wins Owen vs Bulldog - Owen wins Tournament Semis Mabel vs HBK - Mabel wins via countout after JJ interferes Undertaker vs Owen - Taker wins Tournament Final Mabel vs Undertaker - Mabel wins via MDT interference (Taker going to the final keeps the fans into it as He & HBK going out in the qtrs killed the crowd, And yes there's 2 interference endings but HBK would NEVER put Mabel over without Bullshit) Savio Vega (W Razor Ramon) vs Roadie - Quick match that gets Savio over and gives Razor some revenge over Roadie Bret vs Lawler - Keep as it was OK Diesel vs Sid for the title - End the feud here and IYH2 is a different opponent (3 Sid vs Diesel PPV ME was dumb)
I was still a kid in 1995 but in 2000 I signed a record deal and we had morality clauses in our contracts, specifically regarding marijuana and those clauses are still in music contracts even though it’s legal in most states federally it’s illegal and the label doesn’t want to deal with any of those problems especially in a touring/traveling across state lines capacity
I understood the point about making new stars but Mabel wasn’t ready. And if the intention was to push Mabel then why not start his push a few months earlier so by this point the fans would’ve been accustomed to seeing Mabel in the upper mid card/main event. My choice would’ve been Bam Bam.
To upset all the "weed is better than booze" folks, I'd much rather sit next to someone who is having a drink than smoking something - unless they puke or spill their drink, i dont have to smell any disgusting odors or breathe their smoke.
What Bruce is trying to say is this. We needed Mable to become a contender to the title. Let's have him win kotr and give him some momentum. The problem is the bell had to ring.
They talk about business being bad but let's look closer: Mabel won the tournament. He talks about Adam Bomb not being over, but I don't ever remember Bomb winning any matches, aside from when he first did his face turn! He was a glorified jobber. Michaels and Undertaker were both eliminated in the first round of the tournament, Undertaker losing to Mabel. Who booked this shit!? The main event was a tag team match featuring the world champion. lol, no Savio Vega actually did break out here and amounted to...basically nothing afterwards. Edit: AND THEY HAD CHRIS BENOIT DOING DARK MATCHES!!! Bruce, you're killing me!!! And this is after both a spotty Royal Rumble (with maybe 5 guys who could believably win the event) and a very iffy Wrestlemania. I remember this was the last WWF PPV I ordered for awhile. This was a really bad show and WCW had a good Vader vs Hogan feud going on the opposite end (I was 100% behind Vader).
They just wanted a monster to wrestle Diesel at Summerslam. There’s no way they could possibly think Mabel is going to get over. Dude was losing to IRS and double j over the past year. Vince wasn’t out of his hero vs monster phase yet. That’s all that was.
41:52 According to Scott Hall and why would he say it if it wasn't true, The ladder match had a unplanned impromptu finish when Razor was on top of the ladder and Jarreett wasn't so The Bad Guy had no choice but to unhook the 8C title. Double J was supposed to retain. I was waiting for Pritchars or Conrad to elude to that....
With the benefit of hindsight Bob Backlund was 💯% correct regarding the American education system. Test scores have dropped across the board for decades
WCW in 1995 was horrible as well though. With the exception of Japan and to some extent Europe, Wrestling in 1995 was in a complete hole and so awful, it's no surprise it completely killed the wrestling boom here in Europe almost instantly.
@@ShadowAngel-lt8nw I'll take the first 4 months of Monday Nitro, the yeti and the zodiac included over Todd Pettengill saying "promotional considerations paid for by the following" any day
44:44 if Bob Backlund told me to name all the Presidents in order I would’ve said “I’m English! I couldn’t tell you who was President before Ronald Reagan as outside of America no one cares who’s President as it has no effect on our lives!” I’ve only heard of Woodrow Wilson because of a Simpsons episode where Bart pretends to pretend to be a man answering a lonely hearts advert put in the local newspaper by his teacher and uses the name Woodrow Wilson and his picture just so he can embarrass her. I might be able to name 20 Presidents if lucky
@@alexwheaton6723 you mean a real estate agent that married into wrestling royalty and used it to every advantage possible to promote his career, who pretends to know everything about the business ....captain f'n hindsight....and a well known dave meltzer knob licker? I know enough about this A**hole to realize he has no place in the hall of fame....but then again....this is a shallow BS ceremony that will induct just about anyone...including Drew Carrey ....but nah, I don't know wtf I'm talking about.
Yeah, 1995 was a total disaster. Horrible booking, a pretty bad roster and horrible shows, but sure enough at least 3 candidates for the "Worst Shows ever" list with KotR, IYH4 and Wrestlemania of course. The only good part were the last few weeks when Bill Watts took over and turned things around (leading to Survivor Series, the only good PPV that year, Survivor Series (and by the only one i mean in all of american wrestling, WCW was just as atrocious that year and ECW was crap as well)
Conrad I support you and usually agree with a lot of what you say but I fully disagree with you regarding the superstar's names. Wrestling while very athletic nowadays is largely boring, because there arent a whole lot of larger than life characters, its mostly pure workrate. Now of course tgere are exceptions but I miss the colorful names and personalities, now everyone has the same boring typical every day name. Names like the Berzerker, Ultimate Warrior. Big Boss Man, Diesel, Adam Bomb, Demolition, Junk Yard Dog sounded so cool and made you instantly identify with the character. Guys like the Model, Undertaker or Skinner, you knew pretty much exactly who they were without knowing anything about them if that makes sense. Between their name and appearance you could get a real fee for the character. Now we have guys like Apollo Crews, Xavier Woods, Johnny Gargano and Dolph Ziggler, what do their names tell you about themselves and their characters? Absolutely nothing and thats the point.
I love Bruce and I appreciate Conrad, but my god the first 20 minutes of this is unbearable. If that’s what this show has devolved into, please just stop altogether. I would honestly rather have no content than to be teased into thinking we’re actually getting a half-ass attempt that anyone would care about.
