I remember back in the '90s when he was on television saying that Serena was going to be better than Venus. I thought he was crazy. Everybody thought he was crazy but he picked it. He knows his daughters.
This was a great story to learn about the Williams family and their bad a$$ dad and mom...the love they had/have for their kids...the values, ethics, morals they taught these two beautiful, powerful excellent women was truly inspiring and I'm so glad Will Smith honored Richard by playing him so well...and those 2 young actresses well, I can't wait to watch them grow up In the entertainment Industry and win their Oscar's one day...great acting all around
Would an ethical man who values morals especially dealing with family abandon his first 2 families when he realized he couldn't exploit them. I think you get up in the " this is a black story " that you dont realize Richard is a piece of shit and so is will simp but a least regardless of what will simp might think Richard wouldn't just smack another man in front of the world and then give a hypocritical speech right after.
Mr. Williams is not unique. Matthew Knowles, Joseph Jackson, Earl Woods, LaVar Ball, Floyd Mayweather, Sr., Roy Jones, Sr., and a whole hosts of others we either never heard of or refuse to give their due. A father with a vision is an extraordinary and miraculous force of nature.
I cried twice in this movie! I’m a grown as man and masculine af but when he told Serena “You gone be the best the ever was, you gone be the greatest of all time, etc” and when he said “I know you was having a hard time in Venus shadow but I kept you there because I know you was rough I knew you was tough, I knew you was a fighter.....that’s why I did this whole thing like this” Sheeeeeshhhhhh 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Talk about being a master mind! The perfect formula to let Venus go first and not the other way around of having both of them go at the same time! Straight Genius
I absolutely cried when Venus lost tournament but opened the gate to find hundreds of adoring fans. I had no idea she was 14 playing adults in her first tournament. No wonder her name is up there with the stars. Super good movie.✌️❤️🙏🎶🌹
No he didn’t. I saw that movie and his acting was TERRIBLE! It was like watching Will Smith playing Williams. Not a believable performance at all! I was shocked when he won that award.
He knows how to hook his audience, I had a swinging good time watching this, it's almost as he committed a crime for how shocking his performance was, definitely the smash hit of the year.
If y'all don't shut up about that stupid slap. Some of you act like Will Smith is a colonizer, thief, or a criminal. As many fist fights in Nascar and hockey and no one clutches their pearls.🙄 Anywho, this was an excellent movie. This final tennis match kept me in my tire. Because I wasn't aware of the outcome. I love the Williams sisters, and I'm happy this film did their family justice.

If you remember Richard when the girls started out as pros in the mid-late 90’s, his personality and behavior leads me to believe him telling Serena she’s be the greatest likely did happen.
I used to scalp tickets to the Bank of The West games. They weren’t in Oakland they were at Stanford in Palo Alto. I’ve seen the family walking through the parking lot. I shook their dads hand. Will did an excellent job portraying him.

It's important to call parents out if they have abandoned or are neglecting their children, fathers in particular, as society expects less from them with regards to parenting their children. Especially if they are being unrealistically praised for being an amazing father.
So you wanted a 4-hour film right? The film was about Venus. Serena was just a footnote. Hopefully we can find someone to play Serena but it won't be easy.

Its insane how Will smith made one of his best performances and movies in a long time and then he punched Chris Rock. He ruined his reputation....but I still think he did an excellent performance in this movie despite all the controversy at the oscars. He was worthy of that Oscar

Will is a good actor he got the accent right etc , he played the roll well ....However I don't think his performance was that phenomenal to win an Oscar award. There was too much "Entangled" and Emotional husband Will Smith coming out that screen for me , not "KING" Richard. I think they should've casted Denzel to play the role instead.
