Hi John, visiting Horse Guards last week, I was dumbfounded how disrespectful some tourists are towards the Guards etc. it was really interesting though a bit later when a lovely Japanese couple bowed to the horse and guard, took their photograph, stepped back, both bowed again and said Arigato (thank you)! True respect. That five minutes made my day. As an ex member of the Kings Troop I really appreciated that gesture. Graham

Love it when the horse turns towards the tourists. Gives them a look that says go away please!

Might I suggest £1 for a photo standing next to the horse. £5 if they feel they need to maul the horse. £10 if they insist on posing with a thumbs up up or a “V” sign with a 10% discount if the horse bites their thumb or one of their fingers off. If tourists feel the need to stand and stare at an “exhibit” then perhaps Madame Tussaud’s is the place they need to be. Standing right in front of someone & staring at them for ages is just pig ignorant.

The gatesman is so professional and looks really majestic when he stands at the end of the tunnel

Why do people stand and stare at the guards in the arches? Don't they feel stupid?

OMG ROFL John. The coat, the purse, glasses, the purple pant suit and hat....the best of all sneakers. To each her/his own. Sorry for your eyes. I recommend a cold compress and no light for a few hours to erase that from your memory. What a handsome pair today, and the horses are real beauties also. Thank you, good job. USA

That is one big horse, you do " Stand clear" as the trooper said. The male tourist just stood there as Young Man moved forward. John to quote you I'm 💯 % sure most tourists have never or hardly ever seen or are used to being around horses. 18:15 Trooper all those people wanting photos at the front and there ua a golden opportunity at the back. 😂 Does the Guard get a record for waiting for the first tourist to have a photo with him or a 🥇 medal. 33:06 have you jinxed it John? " I think things have settled down" and then the horse yawned. An amusing morning no Horse or their Troopers got seriously hurt in the makeing of this video - or tourists either. Just for your library of information, there is such a thing as a white horse, an albino. Born white usually with pink skin and blue eyes. Grays are usually born dark and lighten as they age and they have dark skin.

Why do they have to stand that close just unbelievable

A horse that has foam at it's mouth shows the animal has accepted the bit & is fairly comfortable with it. A dry mouth on a horse could cause it problems.

By the way I've just noticed when the guard comes to inspect the horse guards in the boxes they actually signal with their sword if they want him to go to the box and engage in conversation, otherwise he returns to his post immediately.😃

Despicable people these tourists! They tease those wonderful horses + see how far they can go, I am actually moved to tears, to what length these people will go! Please, someone put a barrier around these wonderful creatures! They are valuable, professional members of the British Army, not Scoobydo at Disneyland! The security personnel need to be more vigilant!The bands + the soldiers marching to the guard change get 4 p0lice horses, 2 front, and 2 back! more often, even a police car behind,but our lads here are exposed to any threat. Even when they ring the bell for assistance, it takes ages for someone to come. By then, something awful could have happened! I wonder if same tourists would behave like that in Sweden with the palace guards? No, they soon would be dipersed! So why not in London? It is beyond me! John, I'm sorry, I could go on for hours! I even think they might treat the horses better that way!

Much quieter on the afternoon after the crush in part 1 ! No " child sacrifices " thank goodness , sensible parents for a change . The little ones with the gatesman in the tunnel were adorable pictures to be treasured 🤗. " V signs " how unusual 😂😂😂. Absolutely love the 'Horsey' videos at Horseguards. Compulsive viewing. Perhaps you could have a word about the 'Kick or Bite' signs. They always seem to be squew whiff which sells us just short of perfection. PS. I've worked at HPB so I know how hard those guys work!

The man was Asian so perhaps he didn't understand English and realized he was being ordered to stand clear. I wouldn't laugh or call folks stupid too quickly. That said, he also didn't know horses or would have known to get out of the way when it came out of the box. Yes, lacking in common sense, but having lived in a tourist destination, I came to realize many tourists' brains are also on vacation. They tended to walk in the middle of the road oggling the sights. No, it's not Disney World folks.

That horse did not move because the guard wanted it to move that horse is having a problem being there at the moment he did tell them look out and want them and stupid is as stupid. Iago was the standard bearer in Othello. Look at this horse's star in the middle of his head. It looks just like a crest or shield which would be displayed on a flag of a standard bearer. You could even imagine crossed swords behind it in the unique pattern this horse displays. Very appropriate name.

Why is there always that tourists who thinks they are a horse whisperer, that try to have conversations with the horse. It’s not their horse.

Hello from YC California. Honestly I didn't understand what the guard said, for sure the foreign tourist didn't either, just an observation. Love the horse guard is responding to tourist when asking permission to pet the horse and such, very nice. Cute how the little girls are angleing their heads for the pictures. I would guess that some tourist stand there admiring the guard and their uniform. I think the two gentleman are very sharply dressed, love that the dress so nicely.

It’s already crazy enough They need to stop the tourists from making life crazy. Keep everyone behind the bollards and take photos from there. Leave the guards and horses alone. They are doing their jobs not there to entertain spoiled tourists who laugh and make fun of these soldiers and their steeds.

In these modern times, most people don't know or understand horses at all. And Geldings are probably preferred over stallions and mares. But stallions would be my close 2nd choice as long as there are no mares around. Mares can be very moody but a little too smart too 😉

Oh crap. Now I am confused again. Doesn’t take much. lol. I have a picture of Rochester that the favourite guard was on. I have him as Northumberland. Identical white on his face and one white sock. So now I have to see if I can get a picture of Northumberland. I do have a couple of pictures that I don’t have names. 😂

Interesting there are some photographs (black & white) taken of a Long Guard handover in May 1952 and there is a throng inside the yard, so crowding is nothing new - just that folk were more respectful in those days i.e. nobody touching the horses.
