I still can't believe viserys is played by the asshole detective from hot fuzz. I'm normally so good at picking up on stuff like that and I didn't catch it until a co worker pointed it out. It truly makes his performance that much better knowing that this was a comedic actor beforehand and he absolutely destroyed this role
@@bitterbites3859I think it's like wallpaper and blinds and shit like that, fucking decorations. Probably why viserys got a kick out of it, since daemon has never even come close to giving shit like that a second thought.
One of the better "sibling rivalry" dynamics I've ever seen on screen. You can hate your siblings, to the point of you being so angry you never want anything to do with them, but it still comes from a place of love. When the chips are down, it's you and them against the world.. and there's is literally that. The actors are so great, it's hard to believe they're not really brothers who have had decades of history together.
Yup. I may have hated my sister sometimes as a kid but make no mistake I was the only one allowed to hate her. Until she got married and had kids. Now I can share that feeling with other veterans lol
I am sorry but Daemon's truest love was his brother, of course not in that way. He's the only one I can say he loved without judgment or malice. He only ever wanted his approval and could care less about anyone else's. It's amazing that there is more than once scene where he seems to turn into a little boy when he's in Viserys presence.
Daemons need for the approval of his big brother was no different to that of a black sheep sons need to prove himself to an absentee or a stressed out father at his wits end.
@@Senate300 black sheep definitely hits the nail on the head, viserys always felt it was daemon being the problem, in reality Viserys should've gotten a backbone & told his councilor daemon is his heir, get over it. He put too much trust in Otto, never questioning anything he said, did Viserys ever bother to check the books to see if Daemon was a spendthrift as Otto used as reasoning to kick him out as master of coin?
They left out the best interaction in the entire season. When Daemon bends down and picks up his crown, and helps him to the throne, I completely lost it the first time i saw that.
Apparently, that wasn’t in the original script. Paddy’s crown fell off during a take and Matt picked it up, giving the director the idea to add it in. Turned out to be one of the best scenes in season 1.
Honestly seeing Viserys's degradation due to his illness was honestly heartbreaking. You saw just how full of life and happiness and energy he was at the start and it was all just taken away from him over decades. Su h a sad fate for who seemed to always be such a kind and honorable man.
I really appreciate Daemon’s complete inability to cope with Visery’s progressive illness. He just shuts down completely when he first sees his brother bedridden and can barely look at him. It’s so well done. Matt and Paddy were amazing in their roles.
"that is a name fit for a king" I love how much they changed Viserys from the books. He was kind and loved his entire family. Although he'd rather be ignorant to their hatred towards each other.
Viserys Daemon and Rhaenyra were sort of in a love triangle. Daemon loved his brother the most and always wanted his approval, while Viserys loved his daughter Rhaenyra more than anything because she reminds him of his wife Aemma, and Rhaenyra has always loved Daemon
Mmmm I think the conflict with the greens still would have happened. Men like Otto hightower did not want a ruling queen on the iron throne. Rhaenyra’s proposal to join the two sides of the house by marriage might have gone better since her children wouldn’t be bastards but that is an if.
If you have a brother their relationship hits different. Especially being the younger you often dont realize that the reason you quarrel with your elder brother is that you want them to be proud of you. You try to so hard to be different only to realize how much you want be like them.
Daemon was loyal to his brother, his family and kingdom. Though he was kind of messed up with their family and incest he only ever wanted the house if the dragon to thrive. Given that he was a well written character as well as having Matt Smith play him made it so much better.
The entire cast was amazing, but to me Paddy and Matt as Daemon and Viserys was the absolute highlight. Daemon was always gonna be amazing, as soon as I knew it was Matt smith playing him, but Paddy was just a sleeping dragon until the show began. Every scene he was in he made his own. He took one of the lesser known kings of Westeros and made him a fan favourite
Visery’s was an idiot. So many death could’ve been avoided if he didn’t do dumb things. He trusted anyone but his brother and put his daughter life on the line so often. Low-key a terrible King.🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Laena's funeral vibe is just sad, but not because they are sad by Laena. The vibe is just different sad. Rhaenyra sad because Harwin was just dead, Daemon sad because he like Laena, and also his not-born children are also dead. Alicent just realized she was the one who killed Harwin (she make Larrys killed them). Aegon got drunk, Laenor want to kill himself, Corlys and Rhaenys are doomed because they realized their heir are now just their gay son and two grand-daughters.
King Viserys was honestly a good person which kept him from being a great king. i think he was a good king but not as decisive as he maybe should have been on some things. No king is perfect. He made mistakes like everyone else but he had love for family genuinely. A great actor as well, very well portrayed what he seemed like.
“My house survived the doom!” Says a lord of a house that doesn’t exist anymore. From a head that only half exists anymore. (Vaenor not Viserys but it’s an easy mistake to make.
Tbf house velaryon does exist still but not nearly as influential as they were before the dance but still a powerful naval force even by the time of the war of 5 kings.
@@koreancowboy42 during the war of five kings yes tho the Velaryons still command a formidable fighting force at sea in their own right. Even after the blackwater battle, cersei names a Velaryon bastard to the small council as master of ships, they have long been known as masters of warfare at sea as well as leading trade voyages to bring wealth to the crown.
Vaemond failed to understand that his son was not capable of producing offspring (because he was homosexual) and that's the only reason why Rhaenyra had children with Harwnin Strong.
