Ever watch someone meticulously explain and show how they do something and you still end up feeling like you have no idea how they did something? That's how I feel about Sorastro videos. Beautiful work.
I don't know what is most memorable about this video: - How long it is - How unbelievably horrible this mini is - How unbelievably amazing this mini looks - How unbelievably steady your hands are
Only in a Kingdom Death guide will you hear the phrase "And then go back and make sure we haven't missed highlighting any hands" and have it make perfect sense... I really need to get a move on painting my base set, thanks for the motivation Sorastro!
My God this soundtrack had me cowering in a corner with my blanket!! A weird mix of silent hill terror and diablo 2 blasphemous atmosphere. Give us this soundtrack, with a parental warning: it may induce madness and despair !!
Ha ha yeh.. The problem is that there's no easy way to separate the process into separate "highlight" and "finishing touches" stages, so I just end up with one long stage of the two combined 😄
What a fantastic model! The long, human finger motif across the model where normal bird bits should be really makes it quite an unsettling reimagining of a classic monster.
53 minutes full of entertainment and in the end you learned a lot and can come back whenever you need it. Awesome! The Glow makes it for me. Well done 👍
This is a spectacular work as always. However, that one small detail of adding capillaries to the skin impressed me the most. It made the figure even more gruesome and "real". I really appreciate the attention to detail that you demonstrate in every video. Can't wait for the next one.
Thanks so much Tomislav! The capillaries are one of those little touches that are actually pretty simple to do, but I agree do add quite a lot to the character and finished look :)
I got myself some AVP predator mini's a few days ago, I'm really temped to paint them in the style of this birds wings. I've never seen a predator that goes from dark blue to light blue so I'm exited to try it out, thank you very much for the inspiration and I love this video!!
Your painting style is just brilliant. It's simple and extremely effective. You can achieve such incredible looks with astonishing simplicity. It amazes me every time.
@@Sorastro You have been a great influence on me as painter. I have become a great painter in my own right, but one of my first painting projects were painting the zombies for zombicede black plague, and following your guide taught me a TON and ignited in me my passion for painting, and to this day I look to your videos for inspiration.
Stunning. I learn something new every time I watch your videos, and I can watch them over and over again. It’s so nice to listen to the awesome music and mood you create while learning how to paint better. Thank you!
It is amazing how even 5 years ago your miniatures looked amazing but you can clearly see a huge improvements in your work. :D Perfect work like always! :D Thank you!
Rahul Kohli sent me. Great recommendation. I am absolutely gobsmacked at your production value. How... how did you do this? The music? The painting? Dear Lord, I'm not worthy.
I wonder if it came from the YT audio library... so easy to get a Copyright ding for like 4s of audio these days... happened to my channel a few times... now i stick to YT audio library
@@FacilityD20 Hi! I actually compose all of my own music myself, so copyright won't be an issue for me! Some of the music in this video is on my album: open.spotify.com/album/1sCRvOl9mclwED42jGULVn?si=NsBPM3j0SrqWZ3esl1BxlQ 😀
I was going to nag that it's been a while you don't do Kingdom Death stuff, but after watching this video, I can only clap for it's a masterpiece. Well done sir, well done!!!
So here I am: fire is cracking in the fireplace, a fantastic Halloween flavored beer in front of me, watching the highlight of the season - what a time to be alive! Enjoy what you love, take care of yourself and your loved ones, just be happy and satisfied with the small things in life. Thank you for creating this masterpiece - I am enjoying every second of it ❤️
I had to scroll down several times to make sure I liked the video. This is one of the most professional painting videos I've seen on youtube. You deserve every bit of support, keep up the good work! Big plus for the Necronomicon wrist holder. Gonna use mine in the same way too, to channel some grim energy into my paintings
When I see a piece like this I have to decide which route to go: realistic, fantasy, or just lean in to the horrific side. How you managed to not just do all 3 baffles me. Truly inspirational. First time I have seen one of your minis I wouldn't want (in a good way that thing gives me the heebie-jeebies. Something about those wing hands the little grasping hands, can't even.) Best art I have seen you do, thank you for sharing and inspiring (not to mention all you do for the community.)
@@Sorastro Absolutely loved it. It's honestly like a masterclass without the breakdowns spotlighting the individual sections in real time. The OSL off the lake, the general color integration and contrast (starting to understand a little more color theory) but your choices amaze me. The beak striations. The skin on the top of the head with all the veins and them looking layered through the skin instead of on top of it. I could go on, but just thank you!
As others have said, one of your best yet. It's also so well explained that it 'looks' easy and hopefully will give painters that little push to try it out.
Just started watching this video... hoping against all hope he says at least SOMETHING about the cloaca. My favorite surprise when assembling the core box.
Outstanding work !! You made a true piece of art. That's probably the most impressive paintwork I've ever seen so far. Thanks for sharing your talent ;)
Just echoing what everyone else is saying. Awesome work, and epic video, sir. It's nice to see the Nocturna paints getting some love. I rarely see them used, and I'm not quite sure why. I think they're great! You've given me a few ideas here as well, so thanks for that!
@@Sorastro great idea to use a pond to reflect light on the phoenix, it's the first time i saw this on that miniature, and it create an amazing effect. Now I want to paint another one phoenix ^^
it was the glowing water base and effect's that did it for me . it changed what would of been an absolutely outstanding piece to a masterpiece. Now just working on how I can work a glowing pool into 1 of my legion base's.
Thanks Matt! The glowing pool was the first thought I had when I began planning how to paint the Phoenix. Everything else just grew from that. I'm glad you liked it! 😀
I just love all your KD:M miniatures. Please keep them going, for me they are the highlight of your work. The way you play with light and shadow on the KD:M miniatures is breathtaking. P.S.: And pleeeaaase release the missing music that isn't on "Oracle". I love your KD:M soundtracks!
@@Sorastro greating, looking forward to it. and of course to more KD:M painting videos :) would be great to see the Lion God painted by you, it's one of my favourite miniatures
Wow, incredible work here, I am awed by your talent, well done! The video, the time stamps, the paints, products and tools, this is how all painting tutorials should be arranged. A++
This is top drawer stuff. A stunning piece! On a sidenote I really learn a lot seeing how you mix and use your Scalecolor paints. I do love mine for glazing but you use them in a much more varied way.
INSANE!!!! thank you so much. Think I'm going to use that technique on "Star Spawn" monster from Mansions of madness. Thank you. Just finished my zombicide abomination with your help. Once again thank you so so much!!
Very nice!! I love seeing other people's interpretations of the world of Kingdom Death. I always kind of imagined it as a nightmarish, twisted ancient Africa - maybe because of the lion and antelope. Yours seems more like an "actual" nightmare :) A dark dream world of sorts, like something from Neil Gaiman.
As others said, so much to learn + so relaxing to watch. And yes the soundtrack is amazing! - Also, I just looked up the soundtrack on Amazon...track # 7 - Zombies don't use swords" LOL classic!
Thanks Will! Ha ha - yeh, "Zombies Don't Use Swords" was actually a line out of the Zombicide: Black Plague rule book (the game for which I composed the track) :)
Really impressive and beautiful work. I love the figure and those fingered wings, and his selection of paint and work is fantastic. I've searched but can't find the nocturne color set, especially shadow purple
@@Sorastro Ohhhhh maaan!!!! Can't wait to see what you do with The Watcher and Gorm if both are on your list. Lonley Tree as well. Your a true inspiration. 🤜🤛
I don't know to what extent the model sculpt (being awesome) takes part in the credit, but i think this is perhaps your finest work. A true masterpiece !!! Somehow you always seem to surprise me by constantly surpassing your previous top-notch work. I suppose its work-work-work and 5% talent. I would like to know what you think on that.
Thank you very much! I I do try to push myself with each mini I paint, and with this one I did have to battle a few personal daemons before summoning the confidence to impose my vision on the figure. I like to think that we all have some measure of "talent", and that with enough care and patience most people might suprise themselves by what they're capable of. 🙂
@@Sorastro Now you really picked my curiosity on what those daemons are 😉 PS - Being Greek I especially appreciate the way you spelled daemons with an "a" before the "e"
@@MrAbnrm I just have slightly low periods from time to time where I lose confidence in myself and become plagued with self doubt. It's something I've come to accept as a part of the process sometimes, and just have to work through it. 🙂
This is the most impressive piece you've put on your channel. Absolutely masterful! Hey have you ever tried Kimera paint? It would be interesting to see what you think.
Some videos inspire you to paint better, or learn a new song on an instrument. Other videos make you wonder why you've even tried at all. I find that Sorastro videos somehow manage to be both.
