Trend popularised by Mr Beast because it had the most thumbnail appeal and seemed to work best with the algorithm, but now he does different things because he thinks that everyone doing that has made the technique lose its competitive edge.
Even worse when you live outside the US. I'm in the UK and it's £200+ shipping fees, and then large tariff fees once the items land in the UK. It's a shame because I played it on Tabletop Simulator and it is an amazing game, but the prices are ridiculous.
Whenever I think GW prices are bad I remind myself of KD. Not sure exactly who it's made for, but it's definitely someone with at least a mid six-figure salary.
core game is 400, the big expansion is 300 and first wave expansions total up at bout 800 or so. still somehow cheaper than a 40k army with the amount of unique sculpts lol
@@TheLalalaboyz warhammer underworld, cursed city or any army less than 2k points is cheaper than Kingdom death, I also see 90% anime tiddie models on the site which is lame.
I'm sure it's difficult to resist invoking the death of warhammer in your title when you know it's going to double your ad revenue, so I can't blame the guy, but yes, it's very annoying.
yeah not gonna lie, that click bait title and the whole stick was pretty meh. That shitting on GW minis kinda lost it's appeal, and I would also be pretty invested in game I spent probably 700-1000$. I get that he's passionate about it, but it's a super heavy bias. The miniature market is though and I wish them all the best, but not doing any kind of marketing besides word-of-mouth... that is damn risky. And setups that are more grim derp than Warhammer just don't do it for me.
For me it wasn't IT, but a TV show called Tales From The Dark Side. The episodes themselves weren't too bad, but the intro had given me an insane level of fear for aspen groves.
Sadly you kinda need to these days as the vast majority of hobby interested people is first and foremost interested in Warhammer or if you’re lucky dnd
Any mini painter that does mostly GW stuff is bound by the popularity and algorithm to continue doing so on the threat of zero exposure and hurting your channel’s potential growth as the algorithm stops promoting you. So I’ll take any other miniatures game representation if it’s in this form, as it’s better than nothing
It's a real shame because it kinda suggests the game doesn't stand on its own merits. I thought it looked cool here, went to the website to check the figures and sadly it focuses a bit too much on the pinup stuff for my taste.
While I don't play the game at all, I can tell ya that the base game and the major expansion don't really focus much on the gratuitous pin ups (Still a ton of sexuality like the gambler's chest nudist giants) The pinups are really just alt figures and a dosh making product for em by what I know of the series.
It’s awesome you were able to get your hands on the killennium butcher before release. It’s been fun watching this model jump up $1000 over the month to now be sitting at $10,000,000 with a countdown clock to launch
Black knight box too!!! Loving the kdm content. Your style along with direct imput from poots is a match made in heaven. I got the base game a few years ago and a handful of expansions, includung the giga lion vignette. That giga lion is my favourite model of all time and my fVourite paint job too. The game is a big investment but contains so much content and longevity that it is most definitely value for money
A lot of their best not anime/pin-up stuff is in the main games, unfortunately. I would have bought two or three extra Phoenix by this point if I could buy them separately. But, the model to price ratio isn't too bad for the whole game.
Most of their actual monsters are in the game and game expansions. Individual models are mostly all promos and range from slightly fan servicey to "do NOT let anyone see your screen while you browse".
Kingdom Death: That one game sitting on my shelf waiting for the day I feel good enough for it's Miniatures. (I ordered the Base Game during the Pandemic and the two following years a fear extra Bits. And yes: The word of mouth in form from a few RU-vid-Videos was the reason I got interested in the whole thing in the first place....)
Beautiful paint work and agree Kingdom Death is a labour of love but it shows in the quality of the components and the game play which is not only fun but is bursting with atmosphere
Really enjoy your stuff Jon and I learn a lot from it and it always helps provide perspective...but the title on this was pretty disingenuous and that it's another ad video is aggravating. I know you have to keep the lights on bud but this isn't it...
I've said this before, Jon, but I'll say it again - I really appreciate that you share your insights into what keeps you motivated, and the things that save you time and effort. So often RU-vidrs seem totally unaware of this aspect of the hobby (probably because their time IS 'work time'), but you always seem to keep it in mind. That's why I keep coming back. Keep up the great work!
Funnily enough he kind of looks like Ushoran from behind :D Nice end effect. KD:M really interests me, but idea of so many nicely detailed minis makes it overwhelming :D
Yeah I wanted to get some of their minis after painting the survivors you see here for a client...but like most independent companies you can't just buy a few of their minis you have to buy the entire game, and I couldn't justify doing that.
Black Friday sale is unreal and worth a look, usually around 50% off. If you don't shoot for the full game it would be a great way to get stand alone expansion minis at a more accessible price. Ebay may be viable too, but Black Friday would likely be a better deal
Loving the KDM content! As someone who's mostly drifted away from GW into crowdfunded board games, it's really something special when it comes to the hobby itch. Aeon Trespass Odyssey and Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood are worth a look if you're not familair. The mini's are all preassembled, but really good quality with that in mind. If you want a tease of an upcoming dark-fi kdm-esque title check out Three of Ghosts :)
Shout-out to that left thigh pauldron thingy behind the sword. The lighting effects are on point. Crazy how a minimalist approach like this can convey so much atmosphere and emotion.
I have been eyeing kingdom death for ages and this is the push I needed to start it. Thanks mate! It's good to shine a lantern on other games that deserve it
Kingdom Death was influenced heavily by D&D, Berserk, and Monster Hunter. It's a great game and my play group plays it the most these days instead of 40k.
He didn’t do a good job of explaining kingdom death, it’s more of a deet system with cards as AI and Hunter events versus D&D. And the whole having babies thing is combining one person skills with another person skills to hopefully have a child with both skills and if you roll really low, they all die
Wow. This miniature is so creepy. The designer really did a great job telling a story. I think your fluorescent yellow really did help at the end too . Do more videos about kingdom death the game. I want to learn more
Shipping into canada sucks right now. They're getting a canadian warehouse set back up for major content (core, expansions, gambler chest, this killenium stuff)
Awesome and often overlooked element to add objective markers to a static board setup! Loved the video! Keep it up and cheers to approaching 2k subs !!
I am painting my Kingdom Death in the same sort of style! I'm so excited to get that new Vignette at some point. I bought everything for the KDM Kickstarter 1.5, and it has been an insane journey and worth every penny.
"You can see by the mound of Human torsos that he's perched upon, that he's a Bad guy" My Good Guy Space Marine perched upon a mound of Heretics Torsos doesn't understand the correlation.
Really love the look of this mini and your paint job was awesome! Still haven't made a hard choice on WH, but love all the options there are now for games and just enjoying getting back into painting all the cool things! Thanks for all the vids :D
That sounds exactly like my childhood! I'm a product of old DandD. I started into roleplaying games at 6 with a game called Rolemaster. Overcomplicated, to say the least, but it was what was being played around me. I am a roleplayer/Dungeon Master at heart. Kingdom Death miniatures look up my alley for sure. Just don't know if I can afford that price.... Beautifully painted miniature! The lighting is magnificent!
I have SO many kingdom death minis between the core box, gamblers chest, vignettes, expansions, and pinups that I feel bad that I'm only using them for one game. I really want to do a mordheim-like game with the minis when I'm not using them for the game proper.
More kingdom death content my man! This game has a great release model for painters. Low model count releases that you can really spend time on each model really reduces the “get it on the table” word from other army games
Hi ninjon, love the video and I really want to get some of these minis just to paint up! Question though about the FW white ink. What PSI in your compressor do you use and what needle size do you use? I’m having hell of a trouble with the ink not working the way I see in videos when going through my airbrush :(
I feel like this video is also a great example of what you can do with a limited color pallete. You said you wanted to stick to warm colors, and it turned out awesome
Painting KD:M minis feels more like painting something made by a person than something made by an Organization. Thats a feeling I really enjoy but I can appreciate not finding value in that.
Then you should try One Page Rules Grimdark Future. It's almost beer & pretzel wargame where you could play big battle in 1,5 hour. Impossible with GW rules.
I wasn't a part of the initial set of backers for the game since I got into board/miniature gaming pretty late, but it's been quite the experience learning about the setting, gameplay and enjoying the amazing sculpts of KDM. It's an amazing game and setting for dark fantasy/horror fans. And as mentioned in the comments, it's an absolute treat for fans of Berserk, Dark Souls, etc.
Not sure I understand all the hate you are getting in the comments, it was a solid video, very cool paint job, and fun dive into a game you obviously love and enjoy. Additionally now get to work with the creators to spread to other people is probably pretty fulfilling. On top of that, not sure if intentional, but this type of video just sort of spreads the vibe that no matter what you are playing or painting that there is probably a game out there for you that will bring you that same joy.
My mom bought me the goosebumps book "it came from beneath the sink" as a child. my bed was directly in line with the bathroom across the hall, the cover of the book scared me so much that night i made her return it the next day
I sold this game a few years ago as money was tight. You can bet your derriere that I will be getting it again as it is a truly glorious experience to take new people through. Give them no clues as to how brutal it is and watch as they roll on an injury table and find the character has lost an arm or has a fear of the dark and now has to be a people maker at the settlement now 😂 Great vid.
Are there also tutorials for those survivors that you have on table? Ideally without airbrush. I wonder how the osl should looks like without airbrush.
Poot's stuff has been way off the wall since day one. Like you, not a manga fan, but a lot of hit minis are a lot of fun. I painted a few for a client many years ago when the first game cam out and wondered why they all had lamps. Now I know. Thank you 🙂
I think folks are forgetting that jon is a pretty knowledgeable marketing fella so he knows that clickbait gets the money easier. Nothing wrong with some clickbait RU-vid money pandering when the video itself is good imo
I at least learned about an interesting game I wasn’t aware of, and the painting was good. If it’s not the Temu video, sponsored doesn’t faze me much. That one was egregious.
@@Direwolf1771 This isn't his first Kingdom Death video. He painted the Crimson Croc a few months ago, so if you want to see other KD minis get painted check that one out.
I think the thing the Ninjon does best, is grasp of colour. These colours are always so complementary and he seems to just pick them off the shelf just by eye. It’s very impressive. I don’t feel that he ever ever clashes with his colours. Saying that though, the camera is still going out of focus on closeups.
This was a very nice model and paint job. Nice and easy to follow for a hack like me, would like to give this a try. I'd rather not have the click-baity titles, but I understand the deferral to the algorithm gods. After all, GW has buried dozens of games (many of which I have enjoyed) through its 35+ y. From Ral Partha's "all things Dark and Dangerous" to the early Battletech models that resisted paint sticking to them to many of the new more specialized models (about to start Miniac's vampire and an Iron Maiden Eddie Model), this is really a great time to get started in the hobby.
The good thing about kingdom death is that its a self contained game, even if it doesn't stick around it will still be playable since you dont need another "player" but just another person (unlike some mini based games we know of)
I just have to say to you Jon, I've been watching you, your channel and your growth as an artist, a teacher, an entertainer, and a great ambassador of this wonderful and amazing hobby. This hobby, loved by so many people, accepting of all types, uniting them all with a common passion. I truly enjoy watching all of your content, and have grown to look forward to it for countless positive reasons. Keep pumping positive vibes out into the world, and you see those vibes come right back 10 fold. Peace bro ✌️
As someone who really enjoys painting minis but doesnt play warhammer and has never painted a warhammer mini, i always like seeing painters paint something other than warhammer. I wish more people painted fantasy models
Having watched this without sound since the painting is what calms me before bed, I have decided that this character only likes eating humans from the waist down and then decorates with the top half. Area ging them in peaceful positions, just to freak the next guy out.
